Who could have guessed? DeSantis isn't actually dumb. But he knows his base is. He doesn't care how this impacts Florida because he'll be gone running for the White House by the time it really matters. This is a play to the national audience. It screws Florida, especially those two counties, but he'd probably still not be at risk of losing Florida and the rest of the country is just going to pretend like it was a brilliant move. In other words, as with Trump this move will make DeSantis some culture war hero despite the facts on the ground.

A sex ed teacher acknowledging to students that relationships outside traditional heterosexual ones do exist, and that they can be healthy? that's an attack! And teaching that sex can be pleasurable? WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO! It's all pretty dumb IMHO. I'm pretty live and let live on most things, and ideologues on both sides find that offensive because I guess silence is violence.
