June 24, 20223 yr Quote Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Friday said conservative Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch misled her about their views on the importance of Supreme Court precedent during their confirmation proceedings in 2017 and 2018. Collins, who voted to confirm then-President Trump’s first two conservative nominees to the court despite her support for abortion rights, has said she believed those justices would hold up important precedents such as Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion. A court majority that included Kavanaugh and Gorsuch struck down that right on Friday. "This decision is inconsistent with what Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh said in their testimony and their meetings with me, where they both were insistent on the importance of supporting long-standing precedents that the country has relied upon,” Collins said, explaining her votes for those nominees during the Trump administration.

June 24, 20223 yr The Dept. of Justice should be investigating the Federalist Society and others for conspiracy to obstruct congress, and Perjury, for lying about Precedent and Stare Decisis while under oath before the Senate Judiciary committee. I'm sure there is a rather large spectrum of conspirators who encouraged them to lie or required them to.
June 24, 20223 yr https://www.businessinsider.com/oklahoma-abortion-ban-sponsors-dont-know-what-law-might-be-post-roe-2022-5?amp Oklahoma took the shotgun approach and threw multiple abortion laws on the governor’s desk and he signed them all… Contradictions included. While unlikely to be enforced in such a way, but… it’s possible, by law… a man could incestually rape a family member, if the victim has an abortion, the raper could turn the victim in and receive a $10,000 reward, the incest rape victim could face up to $100,000 fine and 10 years in prison, while the dirt bag that did the raping could get the minimum 5 years for 1st degree rape.

The lack of a federal standard will create many problems it should force congress to get their ish together and actually do their damn jobs. But I have little faith in them doing that Biden came out today and pretty much said the same thing. I imagine we'll see abortion legislation introduced well before the elections. With the blue bloodbath on the horizon, this certainly is a sensitive issue the D's can hang their hats on. I would think the legislation would have a decent chance to get passed too. Surprised something to this effect wasn't codified into the US Code long before Roe was overturned.

It's a very sensitive subject, that has a very vocal side, and a not so vocal side. It really is hard to tell where the majority sits.
