I would agree if their defense wasn't so good. I think they'll surprise people even without Peyton this year and having Jameis.

I want to think they will stink considering it will help us, but that defense is pretty good, Jameis isn't afraid to toss it and with Thomas, Olave and now Landry. That's pretty good. There's always the chance it's just not their year but I'm starting to lean the other way now.

I know but still it’s baffling. I wouldn’t mind as much had the Cowboys actually won something other than a division title since the mid nineties but the giants have two Super Bowls and the eagles have one in that time.

They add a lot of talent over the decades but are never able to do anything with it

It’ll be nice that wentz will get to play us early in the season and connect with eagles players by throwing at them which he didn’t do much in the end of his time in Philly.

It would not surprise me if it's the same when Jackson went to the Commies and owned us. He's got a lot of weapons and their defense is very nice

What Howie ends up doing for that outside corner position opposite Slay is going to ultimately decide how much of a legitimate contender we will have the chance of being this season.

If Eagles add more good players they will be a better team

My hot take

Outside of OL, the Saints roster is looking better than the Eagles at this point.  Pretty amazing how we heard so much that they were effed with the cap and IMO, they look like they should win that division.

Nope, it all squarely rests on the shoulders of Jalen Hurts.  The NFL is an offensive league, it is a scoring league, it is a big play league, and the QB needs to score points and win games with his arm.

Don't be blaming the defense for the 27-24 losses, the other team scored 27, it is Hurts job to score 30.

I don't think its 'secret' knowledge, I think its about an innate ability to see it happening, or not happening live or on film.  He's a great communicator, but he also has to know exactly what to communicate and to whom, how and when.

The math analogy is a false equivalence.  Math has very limited options on how to do it.  OL has very different techniques based on how you want the OL to play.  Its not as simple as 'solve for x'.  There are better teachers and worse teachers.  And as a teacher and having trained many teachers, I can also tell you that some teachers have a great deal more knowledge than others and the ones that have more knowledge of the subject have a deeper well to draw from to help their students understand things and understand them at a higher level.  Some teachers, frankly, only understand their particular subject at the surface level.  Those teachers will never be able to help their students understand things at a level deeper than that.   Bringing it back to OL coaching... knowing the techniques is one thing... knowing why those techniques are what they are and the nuances of that technique is another thing altogether.

Let’s stay with the math analogy. There must be a math gene in my family.  I was pretty decent at it.  But when I performed statistical analysis, I tend to be two dimensional in building models on my own. I liked to say, I used math as a tool and I was a good rough carpenter.  My dad, who taught math to me better than any teacher I had, loved mathematics and was very good with it.  My daughter is similar. I would say both were good finish carpenters. My sister was at another level and I think my son is as well. They are artists.  I think some coaches are like that.  Stout sees things with each player that he adjusts.  @justrelax talked about how he worked with the stance that worked for Seumalo. I am not sure that double digit NFL OL coaches would have done that.  He’s an artist.

Yup. Not the QB. The second CB. That makes sense.

And Wentz has that ability, it's whther or not he gets over hyped and presses too much. If he doesn't could be a long day for Birds fans

Well technically we have 5 or 6 of em but I dont think that’s what he was insinuating.

Actually have 3, just none of them are starting, a RB is in their place.

Yes but Strong might not play right away.

Sorry, I prefer to think of him as a scientist.  ;)   Art is in the eye of the beholder.  Science... we expect the smartphone to work and charge each and every time, and when it doesn't we get pissed... just like we expect the OL to be dominant, each and every play of each and every game, and when they aren't we complain and stamp our feet about it.

You can kind of start to feel it with Jalen Hurts.  If he has the fortune of staying healthy it really feels like he's going to have a very big year.  Assuming Howie brings in someone competent as the starter opposite of Slay then I have this team projected to go 13-4.  This is a team that could be making a deep playoff push in the NFC.  Exciting times.

What makes you think Hurts is going to have a big year?  Just wondering what proof you've seen that he's improved from last year?  Why should we think Hurts is suddenly going to stop bailing out of the pocket or being a 1 read guy?

I hope he does improve and proves all of us who question him to be wrong but right now I don't see why I should think that.

Awwww.. you really are just trolling. You just took all the fun out of it. Damn shame. You gave it away, bud.

Just picture the scene: It’s the third quarter, 31-0,  he’s slumped over on his couch while watching Playoff-Tom pick apart the eagles when Hurts can’t even get his cleats tied right… and his mom comes in and asks, "What on Earth could the eagles have possibly done to overcome this unbelievable gap in talent, execution, coaching, and organizational equilibrium?”

To which RTK suddenly blurts, "James Bradberry!”

Followed by an open hand slap to his Jalen Hurts fathead, which he immediately apologizes to while gently caressing Hurts cheek, muttering "it’s not your fault, you’ll always be my QB1 baby”

There is no proof that he has improved from last year as no games have been played, but there is plenty of reason to be optimistic that he will.   He improved tremendously over the course of his college career.  I didn't like him coming out of college but he improved from college into his rookie season and flashed enough to impress me as a rookie.  Then he took some major steps forward in his second year which was also his first year starting which will help him all the more because it gave him exactly what every young QB needs and that is experience.  The opportunity to succeed and fail and see what works, what doesn't and what teams are doing against him so he can work in the offseason to improve in those areas.

The fact is the players who absolutely love the game and their entire focus is be as good as they can be, that are as receptive to coaching and being taught as Jalen is, to have that work ethic and passion...those are the players that will have the absolute best chance of hitting their ceiling.  So it comes down to the fact that I don't at all believe that Jalen Hurts has hit his ceiling.  I don't think Jalen Hurts in 2021 is the best version of Jalen Hurts that is possible.

The only question to be is how high or low is his remaining ceiling.  You could think he doesn't have much ceiling left and so his improvement this year would be minimal and not much of a leap forward.  And that could very well be the case.  But I don't believe it is.  I think by the end of this upcoming season he will be considered a top 10 QB in the league or right in that area.

I posted this a couple pages back. I’m surprised no one said anything on it. Their WR corps is actually pretty solid if Thomas is healthy, landry and olave (assuming he’s not a bust like reagor)
