I know, just being a grump on Monday morning.  Sports journalism has just changed so much in the twitter era.  Half of it is the way things are reported and the other half is the way language has evolved or changed in what is socially acceptable.  I have nothing wrong with swearing but just 10-15 years ago if there was a swear word used in a quote, usually there was an apology for foul language or something.  It seems that foul language and poor grammar are now encouraged by athletes.  Kind of takes some of the decency away from athletes and makes them seem uneducated.  I know we're in a totally new generation where it's almost encouraged to swear and "give zero F%$#s" but even as I type this I feel like I'll be harshly judged because they are just words.  Was more or less making the point that I would have a hard time seeing guys like Phil Jasner or Stan Hochman having to quote guys today in a tweet.

Now if you'll politely get off my lawn.

Journalism is pretty close to dead in the twitter era.

Yep, avoids anyone who challenges him.  Not sure who is worse, afan or RTK

Honestly I never worry about that. I consider most on the blog a lot "smarter than me" and that includes him. That said I agree that he thinks of himself as the smartest guy in the room.

If I want to be the smartest person in the room, I go to an empty room.  In any other room, someone else will always have something to teach you, if you are willing to learn.

I don’t think AF avoids certain posters because he feels threatened or challenged  , he just doesn’t engage asinine post  , why bother ?
imo he is one of the more intelligent posters on the board . So don’t feel like he is ignoring you , he just refuses to dumb it down  . More posters should be like that  , it would make the board much more pleasant .

And the rest of us post nothing that is not reasonable, rational, civil, measured and polite.

There are absolutely people in the blog not worth responding to.

Sorry. I'm on a call about what defines defects and stories and bored senseless.

Afan is like your quasi-alcoholic uncle. Most of the time he is reasonable and productive. But occasionally he goes off on one of his BS benders that most often produces a highly contorted narrative in defense of everything Eagles, in general,  and Howie Roseman, in particular.

The key warning sign is argument by anecdote.

The way too soon preseason win-loss prediction.

The simplest way to discuss this is by just comparing QBs.  Who has the better QB in the matchup?  So, I will go with that way to break it down.

Week 1: Sunday, September 11 at Detroit Lions at 1 PM
Goff vs. Hurts.  Goff is too mistake prone, Hurts generally takes care of the ball - Eagles WIN

Week 2: Monday, September 19 vs. Minnesota Vikings at 8:30 PM
Cousins vs. Hurts.  Eagles' secondary seems to be a problem still.  Cousins can win, especially early in the season.  Eagles LOSS

Week 3: Sunday, September 25 at Washington Commanders at 1 PM
Wentz vs. Hurts.   We all know what Wentz' ceiling is.  In Washington, I think he gets it done.  Eagles LOSS

Week 4: Sunday, October 2 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 PM
Lawrence vs. Hurts.  This is a tough one to evaluate.  How much did Lawrence learn from his first year?  What does Doug do with him?  Give it to Hurts.  Eagles WIN

Week 5: Sunday, October 9 at Arizona Cardinals at 4:25 PM
Murray vs. Hurts.  Early season Murray is always a tough matchup, even without Hopkins.  Eagles LOSS.

Week 6: Sunday, October 16 vs. Dallas Cowboys at 8:20 PM
Prescott vs. Hurts.  Prescott is clearly the best QB in the division currently.  Eagles LOSS

Week 7: Bye Week.

Week 8: Sunday, October 30 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 PM
Pickett vs. Hurts.  Pickett is a more accomplished passer overall than Hurts.  This could go either way.  Advantage Hurts due to veteran status.  Eagles WIN.

Week 9: Thursday, November 3 at Houston Texans at 8:15 PM
Mills vs. Hurts.  Mills is a better passer than Hurts as well.  Tight game, advantage Texans.  Eagles LOSS.

Week 10: Monday, November 14 vs. Washington Commanders at 8:15 PM
Wentz vs. Hurts part 2.  Eagles flip the script.  Eagles WIN

Week 11: Sunday, November 20 at Indianapolis Colts at 1 PM
Ryan vs. Hurts.  Rematch from last year's opener.  Ryan has some better options and a running game to rely on.  Game will likely fall on Ryan's shoulders though, given the Eagles' defensive changes.  Eagles WIN.

Week 12: Sunday, November 27 vs. Green Bay Packers at 8:20 PM
Rodgers vs. Hurts.  Eagles LOSS

Week 13: Sunday, December 4 vs. Tennessee Titans at 1 PM
Tannehill vs. Hurts.  Tannehill has experience and has been a better passer when needed.  Also has Derrick Henry to rely on.  Eagles LOSS

Week 14: Sunday, December 11 at New York Giants at 1 PM
Jones vs. Hurts.  Who knows?  These never go to script.  Eagles LOSS

Week 15: Sunday, December 18 at Chicago Bears at 1 PM
Fields vs. Hurts.  Tough to know what Fields will be this year with so many changes.  Advantage Eagles.  But Soldier Field can be tough.  Advantage Bears. Flip a coin. Eagles WIN

Week 16: Saturday, December 24 at Dallas Cowboys at 4:25 PM
Prescott vs. Hurts.  Nothing yet indicates that Hurts can compete against that defense.  Eagles LOSS

Week 17: Sunday, January 1 vs. New Orleans Saints at 1 PM
Who vs. Hurts.  Is it Jameis?  He's better than Hurts and showed he'd gotten better at ball security before the ACL.  Eagles LOSS.

Week 18: Saturday, January 7 or Sunday, January 8 vs. New York Giants, Time TBD
Jones vs. Hurts.  Likely a meaningless game for both.  Hard to know who will tank it harder.  Eagles WIN.

Eagles usually do something unexpected and there's a 1 game swing that doesn't make sense (like the loss to the Giants last year).  So, I'll put the Eagles at 8-9 rather than the 7-10 I just laid out.  I wouldn't be stunned if they got to 9 wins.  But 10 seems a tall task unless they get some help again by facing terrible QBs due to injury.

I do now.  When that Family Guy episode came out, I used to work with a load of people in Ireland and we'd spent calls correcting each other like that. Its columns not col-yooms 🤣

Problem is, he posts like it is the gospel, and when you provide facts to the contrary, he ignores, or calls you a "gotcha" poster.  I have admitted I am wrong, we all can, he acts like he is above it.

Big red the soda?

I love big red soda, I used to get it at the local swimming pool when I was a kid, then it seemed like it went away forever. Still tough to find in some places.🤷‍♂️
