Because I refuse to believe that there‘s just more crazy people than anywhere else.

I'm not so sure about that.  One look at America's current society and I think you could make the argument about crazy people here with ease.

The problem is you believe the hogwash that the left spews about taking away rights from people who are legally following all gun laws and are not violent.  That said "No other country in the world".............................really?

Obviously it does happen everywhere. But it was the 27th school shooting and 213th mass shooting .. this year! These numbers are insane and far off the once in two decades school shooting elsewhere.

Ok, so what's the difference between where you live and the rest of the country that makes it different? Because nationally it's a huge problem.

Where do shootings like this almost always occur?

The United States. The country with the highest guns per capita of any country...by a factor of 2.

Typically the US sees multiple mass shooting events every year whereas most other country experience non.

Why do you even need to own a gun? oh yeah to protect yourself from everyone else that owns a gun. Thats logical.

I just don't get why anyone would need to own something that is intended to kill lots of people very quickly.

The fact that the US allows people to purchase these arms certainly facilitates these events. Thats a fact.

No you‘re right. There is no problem just liberal brain washing.

So now we are going on about what I "need to own"?  Maybe we could make some decisions on what you "need to own".  Why do you "need to own" booze?  Why do people "need to own" big fast cars.  Why would people "need to own" weed?  What other things can we add to the list of things that people don't "need to own".

You want to ad background checks that check past mental illness (it's illegal to buy a gun if you are mentally ill) before someone can purchase a gun I'm all for it. You want to tell me what I "need to own" you can bugger off.

I say this as someone who has never even held a gun but just like working on cars, woodworking or building computers...collecting and shooting guns is a hobby for many people.  The 99.9% of gun owners/collectors aren't the issue.

Clearly, I'm not an expert but my guess is no responsible gunowner, which is the majority of them, ever buys a gun with the intent of shooting them at another human being.  Heck, I'd venture out at saying a lot of gun owners who buy one to protect their home hope they never have to shoot a gun.  I have a fire extinguisher but it's something I hope I never have to use.

I think we have a huge problem with our society.  We have a lot of mentally ill people.  How are these people getting their hands on guns?  Were they so disturbed that they would have gone on a killing spree if they didn't have access to a gun?  Would they build pipe bombs and such like the Columbine duo?

Taking away guns from the good American people or limiting how and what they can buy shouldn't be the answer.  Making sure the wrong people can't get them and those people get help should be the issue.

Guns will never be outright banned in the US, it’s too deep an issue now.

But doing nothing at all, again, is the ridiculous part. It’s fascinating that the numbers are so high (I think I saw 212 mass shootings in 144 days so far this year)….but also horrifying.

I don’t know what the answer is, but US politics seems so far gone that they won’t do anything but send out thoughts and prayers and wait for the next one basically. And it seems a lot of Americans are OK with this.

unfortunately there is no immediate answer  , what needs to happen won’t happen  , we will all move on with are lives until the next mass shooting  .  You better believe if a handful of senators lost  a child to a mass shooting things would change fast .

If anything it may be going the opposite direction.. didn‘t Texas just allow to carry a gun without a permit last September?

You aren't allowed to bring guns to schools in most countries, and yet they don't have the same number of mass shootings and children deaths. For some reason I don't think that's it.

Yup. 100%.

Yea just look how well drug free school zones work .

Gun free zones are where crazies go to shoot innocent people (like schools).  How about we put some security in places like that? Our own little high school here in Podunk has two ex policeman as security and you can't even get into the school during the day without going through security.

Funny how crazies always pick places where people can't defend themselves to hurt other people. It's almost like they know not to attack police stations and military bases where people are armed

Take it to CVON, thanks.

there was a school resource officer on site but he was outgunned by the 18 y/o murderer who was able to legally purchase more firepower than police officers carry.

Do we think if Travis Fulgham was kept in the starting lineup instead of putting Alshon Jeffrey back on the field would have changed the way his Eagles career played out?  He was unreal as a starter and then poof gone.  We knew that he was a guy who had a hard time focusing so my guess is getting demoted after leading the NFL in receiving during his stint as a starter had a large effect on his mindset towards the game.

Again you aren't allowed to bring guns to school in Europe either. Why don't they have kids dying in droves over there too?  Because again here guns are the #1 cause of death in kids.  #1.

Don't be ridiculous. I carry for the exact reason to defend myself and others if need be. As far as hunting with a pistol I have done that as well. Let's talk about the people slaughtered every day by drunk drivers where is your outrage to do away with alcohol?

Around here a lot of people carry and as I said gun violence is very rare, we all have a/rs , pistols, shotguns, whatever is legal and poof no gun violence. The problem is people not guns, the problem is pretty simple. Kids are not taught that they may have someone to answer to for their actions.

Gun worship

Why do you carry?  That’s the problem.  This suggests guns to deal with other people. This is gun worship. Pistols are worthless except against other humans. I hunted when I was younger. Pistols don’t work for hunting.  Hell, they are such an ineffective tool.  Make no mistake, guns are tools of death.  Good for huntings.

Never took a firearm anywhere I wasn’t hunting.   30.6 and a good shotgun are sufficient to hunt.  No huge clips.  If you get off two shots, you are a heck of a hunter.    A .22 for varmints but not an issue for most of us. Learned to shoot with one but have had one in my hands in years. (Taught my son to shoot with one.)  40 guns is ridiculous.  Carrying is absurd.  Clips and semiautomatics are absurd.  Australia has it right.

My ancestors grew up on the frontier.  Those movies are ridiculous. I have my great, great grandfather’s rifle.  Flint action, single shot.  No pistol on the hip.  I think @Original Sin is right.  Video game shoot ‘em games.  How many TV shows where the agent/officer kills the bad guy?  On the street the next day.  BS, firearm confiscated and desk duty at best.  Saw a "hero” movie the other day where he was killing bad guys, left and right. Basically a vigilante. No investigation or detention.  BS.  Leads to gun worship.

BTW, I believe in unloaded guns in a safe with trigger lots.  Nothing I am going to hunt is going to come in my house.  Pump action sound is all the deterrent I need

I’m sorry…I’m very conservative for most issues, but very "liberal” when it comes to gun control.  I respect that plenty of safe, responsible people are passionate about it as a hobby or for hunting.  But this is a problem and sacrifices need to be made.

The data clearly show that a gun in the home places you at greater risk; it’s not protective.

Id feel safer at home knowing that guns are off the streets, not knowing that I’m better equipped in a shootout than my potential intruder.

But surely if its harder to purchase and own the guns in the first place, then thats a start?

Who in their right thinks its ok for someone on their 18th birthday to go out and purchase 2 guns which ultimately killed those poor kids. No permit or background checks required. Here you go, have fun shooting up a school.

Make them more expensive, increase the legal age. tax the crap out of ammo.

Do something?

Clearly his solution is to give out more and bigger weapons to everyone everywhere. And if the bad guys have even bigger guns you just keep up the arms race. Time to put tanks in front of elementary schools I guess.
