"One of the biggest things there was I asked Andy, ‘could I be part of the team again?' He was like ‘I would love for you to stay here but you're not a backup quarterback' so when I heard the big guy, big red, say that it showed me more confidence and more respect that he had for me when he said he wanted to see me somewhere playing. I can truly understand that and they wanted to give Mike Kafka a little more of a chance to go out and compete and backup up Mike Vick but basically he didn't see me backing up again. He felt like I should be starting somewhere and playing so that's just the respect he had for me and saw the hard work that I put in to get better as quarterback last year with those guys."

Vince Young. Reid didn't want him back on the team because he was "too good to be a backup". I'm sure he loves Hurts though.

Did he actually buy that? Too good to be on the roster lol.

Getting Brandon Hunt, the actual best member of the Steelers FO, is an upgrade over Weidl.

If he is the best member of the FO, why is he the odd man out ??  What makes you think he is the best of the bunch ??

And that 5-1 look is exactly what I expect our base defense to be.

Sweat-Hargrave-Davis-Cox-Reddick

Slay-Maddox-Bradberry
        Harris-Epps

Solid unit.

I don't love Hargrave as a 4i, given his price tag. I think he's gone at the end of the year.

I'd also point out that one way to defeat these kind of defenses is to win OL battles at the LOS, and force safeties to come out of their passing responsibilities to keep from being gashed in the run - and we'll see more of an emphasis on the running game around the league, especially quick, one cut runners who can slice through holes for 5-10 yard gains instead of trying to bounce outside and giving the defense time to react.

Which is why the Eagles will remain a run oriented offense, not just Hurts' limitations, but because even the best QBs struggle to maintain drives against defenses that take away vertical throws - every short pass is a possible drop, deflection or interception. Being able to run behind an elite OL creates matchup problems against these sort of defenses.

Football is a great illustration of the "Red Queen" effect (you have to run faster and faster just to stay in place).

Should’ve given Weidl an elevated position and just keep continuity in the building. I was interested in Morocco Brown, heard good things about him. Brandon Hunt seems like a fine choice too.

So you go from Hargrave-Cox-Williams to Williams-???-???.

I get the economics.  But it can't be just Williams and a bunch of JAGS surrounding Davis.

Milton Williams in year 3 can absolutely be a 4i or 5tech. Right now, he's about 290. That's fine as long as he's beside Davis.

I do agree with you that we need another DL in next year's draft. Hopefully Noah Elliss shows something.

I should have qualified my statement. You as an individual may and evidently do care for children once born. However, too many of the same people who are anti-abortion are also anti -children after birth. This from George Carlin pretty much sums it up: George Carlin On 'Pro-Life' Conservatives - Bing

I go by revealed preference (economists are skeptical of surveys, "talk is cheap", where you spend your money reveals your true preferences).

Pro-life:  votes for higher taxes to finance pre-natal care, programs to ensure child nutrition, more spending on pre-school and schools and universal health coverage - protecting the child from conception to adulthood.

Anti-sex: votes for punishment of women who get pregnant by forcing them to term without any support, no health care, no financial help, no help for the children once born. Unwilling to put their money where their mouth is (i.e. pay taxes to protect children). Note that anti-abortion laws put zero costs on those who impose them on women, they get the satisfaction of the "moral high ground" without having to make any sacrifices.

The irony is that many who explicitly or implicitly support the "Great Replacement Theory" are also those who are going to force brown and black women to have babies, ensuring a faster rate of "replacement" as upper middle class white women simply travel to get abortions, or have "don't ask, don't tell" D & Cs with physicians who cater to that socioeconomic group.

Easy to say but hard to do. The Eagles have one of the best OL in the league but they couldn't run on Tampa.

Because Tampa had absolutely no concern for the QB's passing ability and sold out to stop the run.

It's almost like you need to be able to do both.

They definitely squeezed us but they didn't sell out. In simplest terms, Vea dominated Kelce and David ran free the whole game.

And after that glowing endorsement from Andy Reid that he should be a starter, he never made a regular season NFL roster again.

In fairness, Reid just said he didn't see him as a back up and would like to see him playing somewhere else.  He didn't say that was as a starter on another NFL team.

Eagles also lack that inside runner, the one thing they failed to pick up in this draft, we'll see if Brooks is that guy. Howard was if he had knees. Sanders is too cute.

I'm not sold on 4.4 RBs who look great in college b/c it's so hard to break big (20+) yard runs in the NFL, the 220 lb 4.6 guy with vision and a great first step tends to be just as valuable, especially if he can pass block. I want an inside runner who can consistently break arm tackles and get me 5-10 yards and put pressure on the defense (2nd and short).

Zimmer used a lot of double A gap pressure looks.  I wonder if we also see more of those looks from Gannon.

There it is, peak offseason TATE topic, we need a big backzzzzzz

You don't agree?

Nope.  Vita was killing Kelce and the guard, and Tampa loaded the box to take away the run.  A big back was not going to solve the problem.
