Just looking at the roster after the James release.  Forgot the Eagles signed Jimmy Moreland.   He can be a player.  He's here on a 1-year deal, same age as Maddox but brings a little bit more size.  Maddox just signed his extension last year.  Say Moreland clearly out performs Maddox and Josiah Scott improves this year.  Can Maddox be moved or is his new contract keeping him on the team no matter what?

This would be a fantastic camp to be at Lehigh.  Watching WR/CB battles would be a blast.

Early prediction for Nasty Nate...Deon Cain.  I think his size is going to let him feast on some of these young, small CB.  I've always been a fan of his too so that might be wishful thinking on my end.

Also, Reuben Frank did a positional depth review last week.  I now nervous that Kelce is going to have some freak injury and I'm placing all blame on Reub.

Tough to say, since Jurgens is a rookie. But there's a fair chance that a 2nd-round pick with Jurgens’ college resume who gets to work with Jeff Stoutland will turn out OK. Jason Kelce never gets hurt, so you don’t expect Jurgens to even get on the field this year, but if he has to, he’d probably be fine.

I was a fan of Cain at Clemson. Good size, hands, explosion... He hurt his knee in training camp as a rookie and never seemed to rebound.

I was too.  He doesn't offer much upside at 25 but I think he could be a Pascal type of player in the league.

Here' is the concept art I developed for it years ago.  The end that faced the Philadelphia skyline across the river would have a standing area only ramp that comes out kind of into the arena and overlooking the court.  The large glass window would extend from the lower concourse walking area up to the start of the second level.

Moreland won't take Maddox's job but if he did they would probably just move Maddox to safety.

I think it’s almost as likely Jurgens plays meaningful snaps as Dickerson last season.  Both Seumalo and Driscoll make frequent trips to the infirmary; it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Jurgens get a lot of time at RG.

We have a nice team that I'm excited about, I just don't know if we're on the level of the top teams like LA, Tampa, Green Bay, etc.

We may not be quite yet but can we compete with those teams? Yeah I think we can. Can we beat those teams? Yeah I think we can things go our way a little. So to me we are contenders in the NFC.

Man, to think we had Reggie Bush 2.0 on the team.  Maybe we should reconsider the Nasty Nate award and call it the Booker Beast award.

Lorenzo Booker looked like the USC version of Reggie Bush as he seemingly beat all 11 defenders on the field for a 60-yard touchdown run. Brian Westbrook says the run impressed him and likes what Booker brings to the team.

"From everything I've seen, he's a top tier guy. He had a long one today, made 11 guys miss and scored a touchdown. He's a talented guy and as a teammate I want the 11 best guys on the field and I'm happy to have him as a teammate.”

After practice, linebacker Stewart Bradley said Booker made the defense look like a bunch of idiots.

You're naming outdoor stadiums for other sports. Also never claimed my idea was stolen.

Then after OTAs with no contact, we discovered "he’s no fun, he fell right over”.  (Probably aren’t a lot of us around that date back to Firesign Theatre.  Improv before Second City and SNL. So the quote will be missed by most of you.)

No, not form within the actual arena of Wells Fargo.  From the concourse but that isn't at all what my idea is.

But hey, you've crossed over into the territory where you'll **** and moan about anything I post no matter what it is. So go be miserable, knock yourself out.

2 completely different awards.

Nasty Nate was hyped up immediately upon being drafted due to his highlight reel that showed him bowling over defenders coupled with TATE's yearning for a "big back" it snowballed into a massive amount of hype. He never lit it up in training camp/preseason, etc. Then he was cut.

Booker is one of many training camp/preseason superstars that gain a lot of hype in the offseason due to their performance in OTA/TC/preseason and then never amount to much in the regular season or get cut. (Rasheed Bailey, Paul Turner, etc.)

I'll stay away from our particular QB situation, but I want to address a pet peeve of mine with QB labeling.

It irritates me that the media (and even professional players and coaches) refer to athletic running QBs as "new era quarterbacks."  Running QB's have been around for a LONG time.  Offenses built around high volume precision passing started to appear in the early 2000's and then expanded rapidly in the next 10-15 years due to officiating changes.  The irony in all of this is that the new era QB is polished, accurate, and doesn't run much.  Running QBs are the throwbacks, reaching into a prior era and philosophy.

I think the confusion is that running QB's tend to have shorter, less effective careers, unless they adapt...and the running ability tails off pretty quickly.  So must running QB's tend to be in college or 1st-3rd year NFL players.  This creates the impression of a "next generation" of QBs that is  more mobile and dangerous with the ball in their hands.

Yep.  Randall, McNabb, McNair, Vick, this running QB is not a new phenomenon.

Alright...question for the dog days of the offseason.  Give a name for each of the following:

Unheralded player to surprise:

Solid player that takes the next step towards high end/stardom:

Established player that disappoints:

Most improved 2nd year player:

Player from the last 2 drafts that disappoints:

For reference, these would be my 2021 answers:

Surprise: Watkins

Solid player with the next step: Mailata

Disappointment veteran: Miles Sanders

2nd year improvement: Watkins

Draft disappointment: Reagor
