I am on the other side. I think it's strange that people on here seem to think Hurts doesn't give the team the best chance to win and that if only the team, the media and NFL experts were as smart as they were, they could see it as well. I am not critical of people for criticizing Hurts. I am critical of people for having opinions that are detached from reality.

With the weapons the team now has on offense, no doubt in mind, Minshew gives this team a better chance to succeed.  A game manager is a much better option than Hurts.

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

For a good 30 seconds I had to think about what team he was even on anymore. Doesn’t help his profile picture is him in Bears gear.

Weren’t you looking for a threesome? Pour another

He doesn't even work out though.

There’s nothing new with Hurts or his fans. There’s the group that wants him to do well so they will find ways to praise him and look at everything he does in TC in a positive light and there’s the group that want him gone and will look at what he does in a negative light.

There’s some down the middle but even they generally lean more negative than positive and then they just get called racist or hacks.

This is just false. I want him to do well because if he does well, it gives the Eagles a better chance of being successful. And I want the Eagles to be successful.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who doesn't even know what team Foles is on these days.

That’s what I had meant.  Tua won.

There was never a competition though.

Seems to be a lot of optimism about Grant Calcaterra. Am I crazy for thinking he looks like a dollar store Zach Ertz? I'm not saying he's that good, just talking about how he moves on the field.

Yes, I wasn’t being specific enough and more so talking about the polar ends since that was what was brought up.

After the Eagles drafted him, I watched a lot of his highlights and came away impressed. (That isn't always the case.) I also thought he had Ertz-type movements. Incidentally -- and this is not a good thing -- I think his run-after-catch skills are Ertz-like also.

I also saw some Tyler Eifert in him. Good receiver type. Probably not much of a blocker. I have the feeling he'd have been a second or third round kind of prospect without the concussion issue.

Wait till they see AJ Brown actually be able to be physical

It may have been the wine but I really think that my reading of the Twitter journalists reports on the first practice was the epitome of comic relief. I loved Lehigh but recognize practice for what it is. Can none of these "journalists” give the 4 Ws and an H that I was taught in high school journalism?  I know @ManuManu has a background actually working in it but has moved past it. I was a Communications (Radio/TV and Journalism) major long enough to get a Minor and realize most starve in the profession but at least we knew how to report.  An absolute on reporting on practice of D v O would be if it appeared the play was called to benefit offense or defense.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has narrowed down the lists of candidates for election in 2023’s vote in the Seniors and Coach/Contributor categories.

There are 12 finalists in each group. Committees will meet in August to send three candidates in the Seniors category and one in the Coach/Contributor category to the full selection committee for consideration at their annual meeting early next year. All four candidates can be elected for induction in the Hall during that meeting.

In the Seniors category, the finalists are former Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson, former Eagles and Rams linebacker Maxie Baughan, former Broncos linebacker Randy Gradishar, former Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley, former Packers running back/defensive back Cecil Isbell, former Jets defensive tackle Joe Klecko, former Dolphins guard Bob Kuechenberg, former Rams cornerback Eddie Meador, former Falcons linebacker Tommy Nobis, former Bengals defensive back Ken Riley, former Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, and former Cowboys and Giants cornerback Everson Walls.

The Coach/Contributor finalists are television executive Roone Arledge, former Cardinals and Chargers coach Don Coryell, former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, former personnel executive Frank "Bucko” Kilroy, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, former Browns/Ravens owner Art Modell, former Lions head coach Buddy Parker, former Broncos, Giants and Falcons head coach Dan Reeves, Steelers owner Art Rooney Jr., former Raiders, Broncos and Washington head coach Mike Shanahan, former Rams head coach and longtime NFL assistant Clark Shaughnessy, and longtime NFL scout and personnel executive/current director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance John Wooten.

So, which four would you pick.

For me the Seniors, Ken Anderson (maybe the best QB at play action I have seen),  Bob Kuechenberg (Great Gs get no love), and the third was tough but I went with Klecko, who modernized the DT position.

The coach/contributor is extremely hard. Arledge v Rooney is who it came down to for me.  I have to go Rooney.

John Wooten was the clown behind the Eagles decision to trade up in the second round to pick UCLA defensive tackle Bruce Walker, who was cut and didn’t even make the team. They liked him so much they even gave him Reggie’s 92 until Lurie put a stop to that.

Yeah, Wooten sure does seem HOF-worthy. (I know he was a good player for the Browns and I’m not knocking him as a player, but he’s being nominated for his work as an executive, which to me is downright laughable).

Oh, and putting Isaac Seumalo in the starting lineup on the first day of training camp practice in no way means that Sirianni is giving him the job. SOMEONE has to take first team reps at right guard, so why not put the guy with the most seniority there on day one and see how it goes from there? FWIW, I’d even give Dillard a look there.

If he returns to the Oklahoma Calcaterra then the Eagles have a steal on their hands.  He looked very much JAG at SMU however.  Now that could be he was rusty, playing with lesser talent at QB to get him the ball among other things.  But going back to his OU days, and they were on National TV a lot, it seemed like every game he was making a big play.  Much like Reed Blankenship, he needs to add some muscle to his frame but I think we're going to really like this guy.

I don’t see it.  Retired from football at a young age because of concussions.  Didn’t really have huge numbers at OU to begin with.  Then came back and played at SMU, but had a chance to play at Auburn.  Odd pick, don’t expect much.

Calcaterra is another health risk pick by Howie and company. Maybe he can compete with Stoll for the number 2. And I think I saw Rodgers name on the PUP.

I know will play a hybrid of 3-4/4-3.  But we are oddly and severely short handed at DE.  Unless Milty Williams is moved there.  I don’t expect much out of anyone other than possibly Sweat.   I wonder if in the 3-4 set we’ll see Cox, Hargrave and Davis all on the field ag times.

Which LB's then? Reddick, Dean, Edwards and White? Does Taylor learn the outside LB role from Reddick, and utilize his speed to rush?

I'm interested to see if Awosika improves a lot this year. If so, he could be a nice back-up G/T.

Did anyone realize that Darius Slay refuses to go by Darius?  When reporters call on him, if they say Darius, he corrects them and has them call him Slay.
