You’ve been lamenting the lack of Hurts’ development from the pocket?  Well, by gum, here’s a throw for you from the pocket:

I’m just gonna leave it here without further comment or analysis ….

Why does he do a hop before he throws? This should be a simple drop, set, and throw....

So @austinfan, I'm going to raise your point about crystal balls. Look at Hurts here. He still has the same stupid issues that he had last year. And we were told all off season how much work he was doing with a QB guru. But now, we can see with our own eyes, his mechanics still suck. He's been running in 7 v 7 drills, which is completely mind boggling. You don't need a crystal ball to see how this story is going to end.

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

Holy Chad Pennington. If he threw that 21mph, high arching ball it would be a pick 6 and you're bragging about it. unreal

Uh, @Alphagrand wasn't bragging at all? Quite the opposite, actually...

That’s what I’m looking for.

As much as the rep with the hitch route and dancing for two minutes bothered some other posters, that’s how much this rep bothered me.

That throw takes a year to get there.  I saw in one of the comments to the video "Not every throw has to be a bullet; some require touch”.  This one does not require touch; that rep in a live game is likely to be a Pick 6 the other way.  There is no way an out route to the sideline should have arch on it.  This rep is either a terrible throw or a really lazy rep from Hurts.  The route by Smith wasn’t lazy, so the throw shouldn’t be this lazy.

It’s only 2 reps, but it worries me that a QB with unparalleled work ethic like Hurts should be having lazy reps like these.  I’m hoping I can find some practice reps posted where Hurts is putting zip on his throws; I’d be very happy to see some of those right now

It's already been debunked. When you add in... Tua, Trubisky, Jones, trey Lance, Geno Smith, Goff, Fields, Wilson, one of the following names has to be top 20. all of the names are better than hurts. You can argue there may be a top 15 in those names below. None of them fetched a 1.

Bridgerwater got a 6th

Matt ryan got a 3rd

Baker got a 6th

Wentz got a 2nd/7th

Keenum got a 7th

Darnold got a 2nd/6th

Mariota UFA.

All of which are better than Hurts.

Imagine posting that Darnold is any good and think you'll be taken seriously.

I'd rather have Darnold on this team than Hurts.

Hes not saying Darnold is good. He is saying at the time that he was traded he was viewed as a better QB than Hurts is right now, and he wasnt worth a 1st round pick. Now you couldnt even get a 7th for Darnold most likely.

Are the team in pads, etc today?  If they are, could be an interesting day for the OL and DL.

I expect a full intense practice today, with tomorrow being an off day or walk-through.

(Scheduled practices so far: 7/27, 7/29-30, 8/1-2, 8/4, 8/6-7, 8/9-10)

Jordan Davis getting reps against Starting OL will be fun.  Reddick dropping into coverage.... Brown vs Slay.  Hurts being pressured to throw on time with a DL on the prowl.  Gonna be a fun one

Imagine thinking Ruben Randle was the second best WR on our team

He might be jay cutler with a knee made of jello

He also may not be Jay Cutler, and learned a huge lesson not getting drafted, and get his ish together.  Arm talent wise, he can sling it like Cutler.

Of course you would.  You're completely delirious about Hurts.  Sam Darnold is the worst QB in the league.

1) I love how you conveniently ignore the other 6 names

2) He was a starting qb when he got traded.

He was a starting QB last year too, the worst one in the league.

Hello Pot, I'm Kettle.

I wouldn't.  At least Hurts helps the running game.  And I love the running game.  Hurts was bad against Carolina last year.  Really bad.  Darnold was just worse.  They both were laughable though.  It wasn't a pretty sight.

Darnold sucks, don't get me wrong. But the opening the run game from Hurts is overrated. Look at the Jets game with Uncle Rico at QB....Sanders and Gainwell had 36 carries for 174 yards. Running game with this o-line would be just fine with a statue at QB.

2 minutes ago, Bacarty2 said:

So was Hurts, and theres a debate that hurts can get a 1st.

Hurts was undeniably better than Darnold last year.

1 minute ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Justin Fields and Zach Wilson had lower QBR's than him.  And they were both first rounders.  So you're point of Hurts sucking is valid.  Congrats.

Not if that QB is Darnold.  Come on man.

I get what you're saying, and yeah, I wouldn't actively campaign to bring Darnold in. I'm just fully done with Hurts, and at this point I'm in the anybody would be better mindset. At some point, teams realize their QB sucks and move on, due to injury, inability, etc. I've reached that point with Hurts. Nick Saban reached that point long ago, and hopefully Lowie does before week 1. I know he won't, but a gal can dream

He does suck but he’s had had a different OC every year he’s been in the league, someone else gets that excuse back to college.
Darnold is the true coach killer, lol.

Just now, Bacarty2 said:

Again, Hurts had better team, better coach, more talent.

If Darnold was here he probably wins 9 games just like hurts.

Sam Darnold is the worst QB in the league.  He has never shown anything in this league st any point.  He's a career loser.  Keep exposing yourself for the complete joke you are that has no knowledge of the game.

Another statement not aligning with facts.

Darnold ranked above Lawrence, Winston, Fields and Zach Wilson in completion percentage.

Darnold ranked above Hurts, Wentz, Mills, Tua, Zach Wilson, Winston and Fields in passing yards per game.

Darnold ranked above Zach Wilson, Fields and Brisett in passing TD's

Darnold ranked above Big Ben, Zach Wilson and Lawrence in yards per attempt.

Darnold had more wins than Daniel Jones, Jared Goff, Zach Wilson, Fields, Davis Mills, Trevor Lawrence and Cam Newton

Yes, Darnold sucks, but to make a statement that he is the worst is false.

The funny part, is you think Hurts would have a way better record if he played on the same Jets and Panthers teams, with their bottom 5 O line and lack of skill position players.

Yes. They're both career losers.

8 minutes ago, Bacarty2 said:

Exposing myself to what? You do realize that Darnolds numbers are almost identical to Hurts's and Hurts has superior talent.

They're both 60% completion. Darnold is 204 ypg in his career. Hurts was 206. Both guys are a 1td per game.

And now keep in mind, Darnold has never ever had the line Hurts has. Darnold never had the WR talent Hurts has. and Darnold never had the coaching Hurts has.

If I told you a QB stats Week 3 were 187 yards passing, 1 touchdown, 1 interception. you literally couldnt tell if that was Hurts or Darnold

Almost identical?

Darnold: 59.9%, 2,527 passing yards, 9 TDs, 11 interceptions, 5.2 YPA, 71.9 QB rating, 222 yards rushing & 5 rushing TDs.

Hurts:61.3%, 3,114 passing yards, 16 TDs, 9 interceptions, 7.1 YPA, 87.2 QB rating, 784 rushing yards & 10 rushing TDs.

Darnold inherited a 5-11 team. Hurts inherited a 4-11-1 team.  Darnold had legitimate veteran receiving talent in DJ Moore and Robby Anderson.  Hurts had probably the most inexpierenced WR core in the league.

You're a clown.
