August 2, 20223 yr Statistics show that, through combined running and passing, Jalen Hurts is a significantly better and more effective QB than Sam Darnold. Isolated passing stats show that Hurts is a comparable, but superior and more efficient passer than Sam Darnold. It can't be substantiated with stats, but when you account for the way the QB has been used, the OL/supporting cast, I believe that Darnold is actually a better pure passer than Hurts. Sam Darnold is also not the worst starting QB in the NFL because he is not a starting QB in the NFL. Unless I am out of the loop, that competition with Baker Mayfield is going to result in Baker Mayfield starting. Most QBs who pass at that level are promptly displaced. The worst pure passing starting QB in the NFL will be between Hurts and Lock. Hurts' running ability will probably elevate him over a couple superior bottom of the barrel passers like Daniel Jones plus whatever other lower tier guys have down years.

August 2, 20223 yr One more thing about Hurts and then I want to talk other positions... Jalen Hurts has always been a bad passer. Jalen Hurts presently is a bad passer until proven otherwise. (Training camp cannot prove otherwise). Jalen Hurts projects as a bad passer. These facts confuse me as to why settling for ongoing marginal improvement and preaching patience are good ideas.
August 2, 20223 yr 40 more days to debate, and the we will start to get answers. Just like last year, I will not over react to week 1 against an inferior opponent, but the Eagles should win that game handily. Week 2 is when the real fun begins, a prime time game against a team that will be able to put up points, and Hurts is going to have to keep up with Cousins in a semi high scoring game. Plus, the Justin Jefferson thing will be at the forefront and then we should be able to put it to bed. Week 3, the first time the Eagles play against their former #2 overall pick, the guy who set the table for the Eagles to go get a Lombardi. Will Hurts press trying to prove the Eagles made the right choice. Week 4, follow up the Carson Wentz game with the Doug Pederson game. Week 5, the roady to Arizona, a place that has given the Eagles fits over the years, against a better version of Hurts. Week 6, the Cowboys, prime time, and they have taken Hurts out behind the wood shed both times he started against them. Once we get to the bye week, we will have our answers who Jalen Hurts is. My only hope is if the Eagles are 2-4, or even 3-3 at this point and Hurts is not showing a massive improvement as a passer, the Eagles give Minshew a couple weeks and see if a pocket passer makes the offense funciton.

It's just so disingenuous to say "Hurts took his team to the playoffs." The Eagles specifically turned their season around because the head coach lost confidence in Hurts and started treating him like a high school QB/RB hybrid. That's what jump-started and sustained their run to the playoffs. That's something to be ashamed of, not proud of.

Week 1: I expect Hurts and the Eagles to blow the doors off a terrible opponent. Everything will work. Much like week 1 last year, some of us will note that Hurts didn't make any tough throws...but he won't have to, again, because everything is going to work. Week 2: back to earth. Cousins scores on this team. The offense will look ugly trying to keep up. Week 3: both Wentz and Hurts are going to show the world that the Eagles had to choose between two wrong answers. I think both QB's will press and look like crap in a slop-fest. Wentz has more potential to single-handedly win or lose the game with an amazing TD or turnover at the end. I vote turnover resulting in an Eagles win, as Hurts keeps it closer to the vest. Week 4: Jacksonville sucks and the Eagles go 2-0 against Wentz/Doug. Week 5: Murray shows Hurts who the better QB is. Week 6: See above, but with Dak. 3-3, although I feel more confident in the wins than the losses. So 4-2 should be possible. And I don't think the Hurts debate will be much further along than it is now.

When the apologists of the blog say "well, I'm going to trust the opinions of the professional coaches on how to run a camp over yours"...I don't have a great response to that. I don't care how hard they hit or how they try to navigate that balance. But I do have an issue with this. When you have a 3rd year QB who doesn't know how to pass unless he's rolling right, you've got to experiment. There's a time for tweaking and a time for treating it like game action. Perhaps 50minutes of practice every day doesn't leave time for both.

This is a lazy pitch and catch, and would get housed for a pick 6 in a real game. He needs to put some steam on this pass and get it there, just like a real game. 11 hours ago, Alphagrand said: @TorontoEagle You’ve been lamenting the lack of Hurts’ development from the pocket? Well, by gum, here’s a throw for you from the pocket: I’m just gonna leave it here without further comment or analysis ….

It was more he doesn't want Hurts to throw stupid interceptions or yolo balls just because it's practice and an interception doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things in practice vs games where it does.

He stopped calling an offense the inadequate quarterback couldn't sustain. Plenty of the league runs a similar offense that we abandoned
