Those are the number from Detroit onwards last year. 178 yards per game, compared to Allen's 260. Asking Hurts to post...70 more yards per game in the air in addition to maintaining his rush numbers is unfathomable.

Is it weird that I’m kinda sorta not really worried about the secondary or the linebackers but am really worried that the pass rush isn’t going to deliver again?

Kinda. Safety still biggest ? on D; but I think our rush will be good.

I’m feeling that 4 of 5 starters there are in good shape and that last safety spot sorts itself out.

Good to know all QBs become Josh Allen once they get to their 4th year. We're almost there with Jalen!

Reid Sinnett is in his third year too! I'm excited to have Josh Allens next year

Even better, how about both of you take a .45 and park it in your brainpan no matter what the outcome is?

Talk about trying to trigger people.

Draft boards mean nada at this point. Do you know how much those change weekly, not to mention daily once we get in the last 2 weeks till the draft? Its a waste of time even thinking about writers draft boards at this stage.

Agreed....but just for fun, I thought I'd take a look at Walter Footballs board....and I was rather surprised where they have us finishing this year....

Any Bloggers play softball? Our men's league usually ends in August, but this year they extended the season so the playoffs are mid September. More games, but we play Sunday nights which now will run into football watching time. Luckily the first playoff game is week 1, so I should be good to watch the Lions game, and week 2 is finals and the Eagles play the Monday nighter that week. I have a buddy who has Lions seasons tix and he wanted me to go to the game this year, but that ain't happening.

Joined a league out here a couple months ago. Last night was end of season tourney (we lost our first matchup). We have a Fall league (Mondays) that’s 5 total weeks that starts Aug22, is off Labor Day, and finishes sometime late September. Already planning on skipping the night of the eages week 2 MNF game… but we play the Vikings so there’s a chance a bunch of people could be trying to skip (in PHI tho, so no options for anyone to attend locally)

what time do your games start? I played in the Sports outlets league here in South Jersey for years and we'd start at 9am. Double header(starting 1-1), 3rd strike foul is an out. and We'd usually be done by 1130-12. Have a couple beers after, get home right in time for 1pm starts.

Out Thursday league that finished last night was double headers. You played 6:15 and 7:15, or 8:15 and 9:15. I imagine the Monday night 5-week season that starts on the 22nd will be a matching schedule. But in central time MNF starts around 715 so softball will either overlap the first half of some weeks, and damn near miss the entire game the weeks where we don’t finish until after 10

It's funny, this year, most of the team is approaching 40 years old (a good handful of us will turn 40 next year), and there's been a crazy amount of injuries we've had; mostly soft tissue and relatively minor, but enough to make an impact. Getting old blows.

I really don't think the pass rushers were the problem as much as the scheme and lack of skill in the back 7. I think QBs were able to make quick throws because of the coverage.  Maybe the multiple fronts and other looks will help.  One point that Bo Wulf made was the Eagles were the team that faced 11 personnel in their base defense the most often in the League.  They also fared really poorly when using base defense vs. 11 personnel.  That is a coach problem and is frankly just stupidity.  If that doesn't fix the defense is going to look worse than the talent it has.  I don't think even an elite pass rusher would have made much of a difference.

I do think Davis will be a good addition and let them to be better against the run in nickel. Reddick should help as a pass rusher. There's more talent at the LB level.  I am not sure what Safety is going to look like with Epps and Harris/Tartt/?   I think CB is better with Bradberry vs. Nelson.  I am hoping McPhearson is improved. I am optimistic about everything but for our coordinator.

Not weird at all. Especially because if the pass rush delivers, we’ll be able to get away with mediocre play on the back end

Yes, exactly.  The Eagles had some DL last season with solid pass rush win rate numbers, but the ball was often gone before they could affect the QB.

Hopefully the increased talent on defense this season will allow Gannon to employ multiple fronts, mix up coverages and be more unpredictable for opposing QBs.  Last season the defense got shredded by Brady, Mahomes, Dak, Herbert, Carr .... mostly top 10 offenses.  Carr was laughing last season when he threw an incompletion after about 19 straight completions -- it certainly wasn't anything the defense did to make him miss the throw.  Blitzing those QBs isn't the answer alone -- the really good QBs want the defense to blitz.  Gannon needs to be unpredictable, less vanilla, confuse or trick the QB into holding the ball longer and making mistakes.

We saw him for more than a year and could see his basic strengths and weaknesses.  The chances he was going to make a significant difference over the offseason were not great.  Yes, it was possible but unlikely.  Howie decided it was better to fix the rest of the roster this year and give Hurts that last shot.  He'll be after another QB next year.

Hurts will end up a career backup and sometime starter on a crappy team.  Hope I'm wrong but that's what it looks like.  He has an entire year now to prove that theory wrong.  He can't blame the team around him.

If Howie "fixed” the rest of the roster, it was with a bandaid.  Upgraded SAM with a second contract ($) FA.  Traded for a WR, due to two significant draft failures, at a cost of a first and a fourth and a lot of $.  Added a DT but spent four draft picks for that. Added C of the future for a hole that does not yet exist.  Added one year signees as bandaid for this year.  Let’s review the reality. Graham signed for two years but costs a ton.  After that a DE, you have Barnett through 2023.  Sweat and Jackson.  In the secondary,  Slay signed through 2023. All the other starters, except Maddox, and possibly the first three Ss gone after this year.  Lots of resources spent on CBs.  LBs?  Added Dean and rented White for a year.   Meanwhile a huge part of the back ups on OL are signed only through this year.  Howie continued on the rebuild but they aren’t a QB away.

You realize that those passing stats are pretty comparable? Allen in his 4th season as starter and Hurts in his first?

Hurts was actually throwing downfield a little more, look at the yards per attempt and net yards per attempt, even with a slightly lower completion rate.

Hurts was 9th in yards in air per completion, Allen was 7th, Hurts was 4th in yards per target, Allen 8th.

I think this reflects mobility more than arm strength, that being able to extend plays opens up deep targets and buys time to hit them.

Yes, 36 is a lot like 16. :meh:

I didn't say they were "a QB away" but in my mind they made a major step in that direction this offseason and are within a year and a QB of being a contender if they hit on the majority of moves.  OL looks great and has depth and some youth.  WR in a much much better spot and suddenly.  DL still needs some work but looks far better than it did last year.  Upgrades at LB and if the kid from Georgia works out it becomes a strength. S is the one place that didn't get any love to speak of.  That and RB but RBs aren't the position that has to be top notch.

I know, but the stoned hippie did not know without that explanation.

Gotta think Howie sees a premium DT as more essential than a premium S prospect.  It's been decades since the Eagles went secondary in the first round.  I agree Hamilton was the better overall prospect, but Gannon might not have seen him as a scheme fit for what the Eagles do.

I don't see how people can say Hamilton was the better overall prospect.  Davis is a physical freak of nature, and he's focused.  We'll see if Hamilton lives up to his billing at the next level in the NFL.

If you look at the Eagles over the past five years, during the time the team had bruisers at RB  (Blount and later Ajayi in 2017, and later with Jordan Howard who was a beast when healthy), the team record is much better than when they either had no bruisers on the roster, or when Jordan Howard was out with injury.  The team just looked different with a healthy Howard.

Yeah, I'd love to see a healthy Howard on this team.
