Strong went undrafted for a reason. I don’t know what that reason is but the Eagles coaching staff obviously does.

Why give him one of the biggest guaranteed contracts for an UDFA if he sucks that badly? There was that comment months ago from Nick saying he knew the plays and was doing well and then silence. Why not give him reps in practice or preseason? It's really strange. If he sucks that bad then just cut him

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

We (the EMB) currently sit at just over 940,000 posts. We're on pace for about 40,000 posts for the month of May. So it's looking like we'll break 1,000,000 posts within the first couple of weeks of J

Possibly want zero tape on him to get him to PS this season versus having to IR stash and he has no shot to work with the team or you have to put him on the 53 which he has not earned in any way

Or he could suck! College film and early indicator from the coach says otherwise, but things change quickly in the NFL when they have no draft capital put into your career

Quarterback with a big arm and was very accurate in college.  Keep buying lottery tickets.

I know it was preseason, I know vanilla defense, I know, I know i know...but man o man do I not trust J. Gannon.

The biggest problem for the 2nd string defense was stopping the running QB on that opening drive. And that's exactly the type of thing you don't game plan for in preseason.

That and poor tackling.

Wonder if that's true.  Not sure how that character checks out with this organization.

That doesn't make any sense though

Then cut him if he sucks this badly

Meh...the Ravens are a limited passing team (and with healthy RBs this year, will likely pass even less). Andrews consumes a ton of targets, I think they expect a lot from Bateman...I don't think there's a lot of targets for Likely.

Just like here....we're already complaining there isn't enough targets for Brown/Smith/Goedert/Quez....you think it's really that important to add another pass catching threat that won't see targets?

Yup, didn't work with ertz and goedert, mostly because Ertz couldn't/ didnt  run block

For 2 TE sets to be most effective both TEs need to be able to run block to keep the defenses honest.

Goedert is a good run blocker and so is stoll, in an offense with limited amount of touches for everyone the 2nd TE isn't going to demand a ton of targets, reports out of Camp suggest he's improved a bit as a receiver as well.

If goedert we're to go down then Calcaterra And or Tongia would be the receiving targets at TE

Not sure if Calcaterra can block haven't seen enough of him in camo or preseason to make that assessment.

Tongia is nothing to brag about as a blocker but he's not a liability there and he's blossomed into a competent receiver.

Then there is still Jackson who before being hurt showed some promise as a receiver, he's a big athletic target and his blocking was coming along as well.

The guy who he said it is per ( Armando Salguero ) is verified on Twitter and a HOF voter according to his bio, so take it for what its worth.

That was throughout the game and tons of those complaints came in the 2nd half.  Not the 2nd string D.

It appeared that our DL was stonewalled, and LBs were caught up on blockers too.

But when it comes down to it,  the opening drive TD was a running QB converting 3rd downs with his legs. And their 2nd score iirc was a FG. I think the 2nd string D was at least effectively bending but not breaking if it weren't for the preseason running QB cheat code.

I believe the only time the Eagles tackle to the ground is in preseason games.

Yeah, we don't practice things you actually do in a game.

Makes zero sense to try to stash someone you like by putting no film out?  Makes sense to me. It's either that or he sucks. You said cut him if he sucks that badly, but you still need camp arms. I personally think they want to hold him for a year and see what develops. Wouldn't hold him on the 53 right now because he obviously hasn't shown enough to uproot minshew and they don't hate what they are getting from Sinnett. I was a big Strong guy with him coming out of college, but the knee history is real no matter how big of a fan someone is, you have to see their strengths and weaknesses and how it could effect the team. I question all players equally, not just Hurts. If his knees aren't holding up, but they like the arm talent they may try to sneak him on the practice squad. If they don't like what they are seeing, he'll be in the cuts and then he will be but a memory going into next draft.

If one doesn't know how to tackle by the time they're in the NFL  full speed tackle to the ground in practice isn't going to change much.

All one is doing is increasing chance of player Injury.

I know a lot of older fans are used to the old NFL where highlight reel hits were more important to the industry and image of the game than player safety but this is the new age NFL, get used to it, they're not going back to the 80s, 90s.

He's a bum. Even more so than Reagor.

It's not like there's teams with studs at their fifth wr position lol

1 hour ago, bpac55 said:

I think without a doubt he's earned a roster spot. Really comes down to a few things.

-Can they find a trade partner for Reagor?  This is the first chip to fall.  If Reagor is gone, it opens up a spot for Cain/Covey or both because Covey is your return guy.

-Are they keeping 5 or 6 WR?  If they keep 6 and Reagor is traded, Cain makes the team.  If they keep 6, Reagor isn't traded, Cain makes it over Covey.

-Can anyone else on the team return punts?  If they keep 5 WR, trade Reagor and someone else can return punts, Cain makes the team.  If Reagor is traded and they only keep 5 WR, Covey might get the nod.

I'm sure there are different scenarios, these just stick out to me.  One of the bigger roadblocks for Cain might be that he is essentially a poor man's Zach Pascal.  There's nothing wrong with having players with the same skillset at the same position but when it comes to maybe roster spot 50-53, the Eagles might be looking for a guy who offers a different dynamic or offers potential and they don't want him to get picked up.  Could be Covey as a returner or Allen's speed. At 26, Cain is what he is.

There are 4 locks.

Brown-lock WR1

Smith-lock WR2

Pascal-lock WR3, has outplayed Watkins in both games.

Watkins- lock WR4

Cain- WR5

Covey- WR6/return specialist

Ward- potential trade chip? 7th rounder?

Reagor- traded for RB/S

Allen-PS

Hightower- Burger King

I think they only carry 5. Smith/ Watkins on the outside with Brown in the slot. Pascal is the 4th guy

I'm not surprised they're having this discussion. They called the Raiders about Jacobs and now the Browns about Hunt. They must really not trust Sanders. I'm just not a fan of his because of the off the field stuff

Long term extension?  For a guy who has averaged 486 yards rushing per season over the past 3 seasons?  Maybe for 4 mil per year - that’s all those stats are worth, imo (if that).
