You are referencing quantity.  My comments are more focused on quality.  The aspect of quantity that enters into my comments is the depth of the quality.  Compare the 40 times of prior Combines to the current 40 times.  Where the difference is most noticeable is in the median 40 time at each position.  The very fastest players at a lot of the positions aren't much faster, but look at the O-Linemen times and other talent measures.

Those aren't measures of talent.

Worst case 5-1 going into the bye, I’m not even worried

Your extremely long post backs up my point. TNF is forces bad teams and bad matchups  to be put in the spot light. It has nothing to do with the Short week, or the day of the week, it has to to with putting terrible teams out there

That is the product.  So, yeah it has everything to do with what TNF is... and isn't.   They force each team to play, because they can't force teams to play on the short week like that multiple times.  The very nature of the day of the week, and the short week forces them to put terrible teams out there.   That's the entire point.  Sorry you can't see that.

No…you beat Dallas

Those bad teams and bad matchups would be happening regardless, just on a different day.

Correct and the nation wouldn't be subject to it... it would happen at 1 PM on Sunday and only the local markets would be subject to it.  But the NFL found a way to squeeze more money out of their TV deals.  CBS and Fox don't care about losing those matchups, because the local teams aren't playing to interfere with the Sunday lineup... so they get basically the same viewership and the NFL can milk a new partner... now Amazon.   The product of TNF is that they showcase bad teams.  Its a bad product because they showcase the bad matchups pretty much as frequently as they do the good ones.

We're in a great position win or lose on Sunday for sure. But how much better would it be to beat the Cowboys on SNF to advance to 6-0 before the bye with the Steelers, Texans, and Commanders next on the schedule? Plus, it's just time to beat Dallas. If we're going in the direction we all hope we are, it's put up or shut up for this team. This is a big "show me" game for Hurts, Gannon, and Sirianni.

Fully healthy against Cooper Rush. Eagles *should* be able to easily handle Dallas

Yes.

Getting Maddox back means Gannon might have the balls to call man coverage

Any other team sure, but not Dallas.

Dak just resumed throwing a couple of days ago, I don't think he has participated in practice at all.

He's practiced but it sounds like all the starting reps went to Rush. I think they might dress him as an emergency QB.

You are looking at teams.  The comment that was made that I responded to was about the talent ... specifically proposing to eliminate several teams so the number of teams matches the quality of available talent.  The problem is not the availability of talent.

The problem is three-fold (1) more talented players are playing against more talented players which has a cancelling effect, and (2) the use of the talent by coaching staffs hasn't improved as much as the talent has improved, and (3) coaching staffs are on much, much shorter leashes now than they were in past decades, as a result there is much less stability/continuity in coaches.  Hurts' history with the coaching turnover he has experienced is a very clear indication of that.

I think it's 100% a problem of talent...sure the raw physical talent is there, but the pipeline despite all the training, tech and whatnot is watered down.  Pee wee through college is now coached and play with the path of least resistance.  Unless there's a drastic shift to a college style O in the NFL we will continue to see decreased OL, QB, LB and DB play.

With such a stationary qb i think alot of man under is the recipe of the day

If Dak doesn't play and we get up early, don't be shocked if we get pretty conservative on offense. That seemed to be the plan against Arizona, and with our oline gimpy, the coaches may want to stick to runs and quick passes, especially since Dallas hasn't moved the ball very well this season.

An aspect of this game not getting much discussion and an overlooked aspect of our defense just due to the nature of the league is our rush defense.  While we do have the 10th ranked rush defense for yard per game, we have do also have the 25th ranked rush defense when you look at YPG.  We are currently giving up 5.0 YPC this season.  It was a huge reason why the Lions offense was able to have so much success against us.  Counter to that though is they did play pretty well against the run against the Jaguars when the weather forced a heavy run approach.

Biggest key defensively will be how the run defense plays.

Eagles have 11 takeaways on the season so far, they had 16 total last year. They are significantly better there but the run defense hasn't been great, as they are giving up 5.0 ypc. They do have the 2nd fewest rushing attempts against them, but when teams do run they seem deAndre Swift does run he seems to have success.

I don't think the cowpokes have the firepower to score lots of points, but if the Birds let them hang around it could end up costing them in the 2nd half. The offense has struggled all year in the 2nd half with them averaging 21.2 points in the 1st half and 5.8 in the 2nd. That's fairly concerning, and shows they are having a tough time adjusting the offense.

Dak just resumed throwing a couple of days ago, I don't think he has participated in practice at all.

FYP

Bohm's throws have been borderline bad... and it just hurt us.

Comparing numbers in underwear then vs now is useless IMO.  There's insane money these days pumped into prospects specifically for those tests.  The NFL product in whole has been slipping the past few years.  These kids aren't being prepared for the next step in college anymore.  The NFL is full of a bunch of blue chip athletes, the field is no longer lopsided like it is in college.  Technique, work ethic and brains are required at the NFL level to go with their athleticism.  Colleges just use the kids to perpetuate a system, beat up on inferior talent in order to keep their cash cow going.  It's why most college coaches flame at the NFL level, they can't cultivate and develop talent...they can only do what's best with what they have.  When the field equals, that's no good anymore.

I would change the illegal man downfield to match college rules.  One yard isn’t enough.

Not everything goes.  Defensive holding is the line too far, but press until the ball is in the air should be fine.

I like it, but a lot of teams (cough Jax/Arizona) going to be regretting their huge spending on tiny lil pip squeak WR's.  Maybe we need to bring JJAW back if this happens lol.
