I like it, but a lot of teams (cough Jax/Arizona) going to be regretting their huge spending on tiny lil pip squeak WR's.  Maybe we need to bring JJAW back if this happens lol.

  • Perfect weekend for me. I got to make my long time soul mate my wife officially. And I got a eagles win today. Life is good.

My point is... if each era played the game by the rules they had at the time... who would win?   What if today's teams had to play by the rules of the 1960s?

Being more 'talented' is a subjective thing.  Talented how?  Able to play through contact or able to run free.... apples oranges.  I ewon't deny that this generation of player is more 'athletic'.  Whether that translates to more 'talented', I don't think anyone can definitively define what that really means.

What if today's teams had to play by the rules of the 1960s?  They would consistently defeat the teams of the 60's playing under the rules of the 60's.

You appear to be thinking that today's players aren't capable of playing through contact.  I respectfully disagree.   I do agree with you that the current era receivers would have to get used to the contact rules of the 60's ... as would the current era DBs, but the place where the difference in talent would be most felt is in the trenches.  For instance compare the Eagles' current O-Line to the O-line of the 1960 World Champion Eagles

LT Jim McCusker 6/2 246
LG Jerry Huth 6/0 226
C Chuck Bednarik*+ 6/3 233
RG Stan Campbell 6/0 226
RT J.D. Smith 6/2 250

And the current D-Line to the 1960 D-Line

LDE Joe Robb 6/3 238
LDT Jess Richardson 6/2 261
RDT Ed Khayat 6/3 238
RDE Marion Campbell* 6/3 250

That's HUGE!!!

London, here we come!!!   😒

And/or Mexico City.  Should be concentrating on San Antonio, IMHO.  Way too big of a market there not to have a team. They have a stadium too.

Comparing numbers in underwear then vs now is useless IMO.  There's insane money these days pumped into prospects specifically for those tests.  The NFL product in whole has been slipping the past few years.  These kids aren't being prepared for the next step in college anymore.  The NFL is full of a bunch of blue chip athletes, the field is no longer lopsided like it is in college.  Technique, work ethic and brains are required at the NFL level to go with their athleticism.  Colleges just use the kids to perpetuate a system, beat up on inferior talent in order to keep their cash cow going.  It's why most college coaches flame at the NFL level, they can't cultivate and develop talent...they can only do what's best with what they have.  When the field equals, that's no good anymore.

I don't disagree with anything that you have said ... and I think your argument strongly supports the proposition that the problems with the game are not due to deficiencies in talent.  The talent is clearly there it simply isn't being directed/channeled/aggregated to produce the play that many of us desire.

With that said, I think that argument varies on a position by position basis.  I don't think it applies to either the O-line or D-line ... or the RBs ... or (arguably) the LBs.  Where I believe it applies most is in the skill positions.

Definitely and... need an even number of teams.

Not bad.   Rookie on Rookie crime.

With such a stationary qb i think alot of man under is the recipe of the day

Cooper Rush is pretty much only good when going PA on early downs vs zone.

Make him make big boy throws.

Need Hoskins to make them pay for that walk.

Like I said... the kid might be tiring.  He didn't really do any rehab starts.

LETS GOOOO!

Yup.   Hoskins crushed him!!!

Strider will have an 'injury' now and they bring in a reliever and he gets as long as he needs.

Good call!  what a dinger.

Or not pitching.

Was wishcasting... but back when I played... that's what you looked for with the Intentional walk right in front of you.   Look for the fat mistake right now the middle on the first pitch and crush it for them disrespecting you like that asking to pitch to you and not the previous guy.    Hoskins buried that mistake.

And it was only 94.  The kid lost a ton on his fastball as this inning dragged on.  Should have pulled him after the walk on 4 pitches.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In game player interviews?  No thanks.

HARPER!

Nola will be able to just cruise now.   Focus on the guy at the plate if anyone gets anyone... and if they get a solo HR like he often will allow.   No biggie.  Move on to the next guy.

Outs countdown is on.  18 outs left.

Its what I expected from that guy.  First action since coming back.  Should have had a shorter leash.  Blame the manager.

Nola looked like he was just chilling in his living room just now.

Getting Maddox back means Gannon might have the balls to call man coverage

He calls some man.  Rather see Cover 5, MEG, MOD, MES, zone match variations than a lot:of Cover 0.

Real curious how Brown does against the cowpads press coverage.  Pascal too.  I really want to see them run some plays that isolate Watkins on Diggs. Diggs isn’t Rasul Douglas slow but he doesn’t have the speed to deal with Watkins and if he misses on a press at the LOS, Watkins is gone.

Always been a super casual Phillies fan, never really been a baseball guy but rooted for them nonetheless. Ive started to become more of a baseball fan, looks like a decent time to do it 😂

Not a bad outcome.   Good to get Nola back out there.   That was a long lay off for him.

Time for him to find his groove and just sit them down.
