  • Perfect weekend for me. I got to make my long time soul mate my wife officially. And I got a eagles win today. Life is good.

  • Listen up blog.  Enough. These 2 ass clowns are suspended for 2 weeks.  They've both had warnings to quit the personal attacks.  There's a line between trash talk and just abusing other posters a

It depends on what’s going on with him. If he has depression or something who knows how that’ll turn out, but if it’s not that then I’m not a fan of bringing in a guy that just straight quit on his previous team.

I’d take the dodgers over the Phillies if they played. But the dodgers winning 111 games is great but they were much more dominant earlier in the year when kershaw and gonsolin were healthier. buehller got hurt. Then gonsolin got hurt. Then kershaw got hurt. The first 5 months they were absolutely incredible and stacked. Then they had a boatload of injuries since then to their starters. Bullpen still really good and lineup is dangerous. So is the padres lineup and pen right now and I’d argue their starters are pitching better

last game, Kershaw continues to struggle in the postseason like usual where he has a 4.22 era. gonsolin hasn’t been able to get past 2 innings since coming off the IL. That’s two of their best starters for the first half of the season when they were absolutely dominant. Gonsolin was top 3 Cy young candidate early in the season. But now is limited to 1-3 innings and kershaw who has a 4.22 era in the postseason. Urias is their best pitcher. Tyler Anderson has been arguably their second best now for a while due to the injuries and he’s beatable.

Padres bullpen since the playoffs started and got hader on track has been nearly unhittable. Besides game 2 against the Mets, the padres bullpen has allowed no runs in the 5 other games (so far tonight still nothing… watch hader implode since i mentioned it). The dodgers have 0 runs off their bullpen in this series. darvish since September 1st has an era of 1.85. Snell has a 2.05 ERA since September. And musgrove has a 2.56 ERA since September. That trio might actually be better than the urias, kershaw and gonsolin trio the dodgers can put out there. And currently the bullpen and lineup is hitting as well as the dodgers

frankly, I couldnt care less if the Dodgers won 150 regular season games. The Phillies with hamels, Lee, halladay and oswalt won over 100 and a team that got hot took them out.  the Padres beat the Mets who won 101 games, and they did it against Scherzer, deGrom and Bassett, and then if they beat the Dodgers (who had 111 wins) you have to be playing damn Fing good baseball to beat those type of teams. And really the biggest issue the padres have had is the dodgers. The amount of confidence they’ll get if they win this series is going to be sky high. Padres were 25 games over .500 vs. everyone not named the dodgers. The dodgers are what the mets were to the Phillies this year.

padres bullpen right now is lights out. They are at 17.2 inning consecutive scoreless streak vs. Mets and dodgers. And for the postseason 5 ER in 23.2 innings.

What an epic weekend! Friday night Phils blowout victory. Saturday afternoon chance for a trip to the NLCS, then Dallas tomorrow.

I am torn on this.

DeSean is STILL an elite deep threat...for at most 1 game a year. Then he'll go on IR.

I would have no problem with DJax replacing Covey...I am still not confident on Covey's return ability, and if DJax was to return punts and be a #5 WR, then I would be more than happy with that role...

One final thought.  Absolutely idiotic to suggest or want DJax on this team.  Let It Go!!!!  Move on people.  FFS.

So, are you saying that Covey is a better player than DJax? Covey has zero catches as a WR (and zero targets, so is effectively only a returner), and averages a very mediocre 6.1 yards per punt return on 15 attempts...

I can't see how DJax could be any worse than that...plus, I always hold my breath when a punt heads Covey's way...I have very little faith in his catching ability!

At least Jackson could be used as a WR if needed, and I am sure he would sign on a 1 year vet minimum salary, so very little cap impact.

How much harm would it do to put Covey on the PS and try out Jackson?

Are you aware that over the past decade, Jackson has averaged about 4.9 yards per punt return? That indeed is worse. And it’s a f’n decade of worse.

Stop imagining he’s the same guy you remembered. He’s not that guy anymore.

Do think Desean wants to return punts and be backup? Didn’t he leave the rams midyear because he wasn’t getting enough PT…  he’d likely want some of Quez’s snaps or pout, not sure that is exactly what we need right now.

JFC, I was saying since the schedules were released that they put his return to Philadelphia too late in the season.

Shocked, I am, but I agree.

Context matters.  DeSean's contract with the Rams was heavy on incentives and when it became clear he wasn't going to hit those incentives with the playing time he was getting he requested a trade. If you bring him in for the role of punt returner then you don't make the contract heavy on incentives for receiving.

Easy.  You sign DJack for the year.  He can take Watkins role in the offense.  You can trade Watkins for any sort of draft capital because he isn't coming back here after next year.  You cut Covey since you have DJack and you now have an open roster spot.

It's a bummer. We play them in 4 weeks, so he might be ok by then.

This flag doesn't get thrown on this and that average goes up considerably.

Listen here Ed Kracz🤣 DJack can be productive here....IF he buys in to a role.  He wouldn't be here to be the WR1 (Brown), WR2 (Smith) or even WR3 (Pascal).  DJack would come here to be PR/KR and occasional deep threat.

I just posted this but I don't see Watkins getting a 2nd contract here at all.  He's a FA after next year and I think you can get something for him in return and address the deep threat again in FA or the draft.

The treat of DJack taking one to the house effects how teams would punt to the Eagles. Covey offers no threat.

https://www.nfl.com/players/desean-jackson/stats/career

DeSean didn't return any punts in 2021. He returned 5 in 2020 to no success. Returned zero in 2019. Was meh in 2018.

You're basically hoping he strikes fear out of reputation and is better at fair catches.

While I agree, it's time to move on from anything we might remember DJack being, I think he's a clear upgrade from Covey.  Even just the threat of him as a returner forces teams to think about how they punt to him.  More directional punts lead to more bad punts, coverage units getting lost and such.  If anything, having him would greatly effect Eagles field position.

Heinicke takes over and the Commode doors go on a winning run, only to be disappointed in the end. Carson never sees the field again...

Maybe if he’d play for free considering the money he stole in his second stint.

I think Watkins is severely underutilized here and agree that he will, unfortunately, bolt as soon as he has the opportunity.

However, 29 games of Watkins + playoffs >> 2 games of Desean before he goes on IR.
