I am torn on this.

DeSean is STILL an elite deep threat...for at most 1 game a year. Then he'll go on IR.

At a minimum, they would have to pay DJax the ten year vested vet minimum. Covey is a lot cheaper. DJax had his share of PR failures.  We tend to only remember the TDs.  Add to that what seems like chronic muscle strains as he aged.  No thanks.

Oft injured Carson Wentz.  Some argument he is injury prone.

I was out running errands so I listened to this game on Westwood One; Ian Eagle and Tony Boselli made repeated mention of this quite early in the game.  They were wondering if Wentz hit his hand on an opponent’s helmet, and was shaking or manipulating his hand after every play.

At this point it’s pretty obvious the curtain is coming down on Wentz’s time as an NFL starting QB.  Injured or not, neither he or the team are playing well enough for him to remain starting for the entire season.  Rivera knows without some sort of turnaround his own time as head coach will be over in WASH as well.

Would be interested in him assuming he isnt a total headcase

Glad the injury happened this year instead of last year.

If he’s dirt cheap, maybe he’s worth a shot, but he’s looked really bad since the Achilles.

While it seems that way, he only missed time in 2 years due to injury, in 2017 and 2018.

He hasn’t looked as explosive. But in fairness the rams oline has been horrific this year. Henderson had a good game against atlanta but he really has been lackluster outside of that game too.

Devin Hester is a free agent, he might do ok on punt returns

Yeah, the Rams are a mess. Akers doesn’t have the best vision, so his draw was his explosiveness. Like you said, that hasn’t returned. Maybe he’d look better with a better OL and run game design.

Easy.  You sign DJack for the year.  He can take Watkins role in the offense.  You can trade Watkins for any sort of draft capital because he isn't coming back here after next year.  You cut Covey since you have DJack and you now have an open roster spot.

No need to trade Watkins if they pickup DeSean to be a punt returner.  Quez for at least this season and next > the 5th round pick they would get for him.

True.  DJack essentially would take Covey's roster spot.

And what do you do when he goes on IR?

Bring Covey right on back.  No one is claiming him.

I’d rather have Watkins on offense than Desean.  If one really wants Desean to return punts…and let’s just assume for a second that it’s a good idea, which is an assumption…I’d sign him for the job week 17.  Doing it now just guarantees he’d be on IR then.

People wanting to sign djax , come on it’s over. He’s was terrible last time he came back and will be even worse if he came back again

Kind of think the padres end it tonight. Musgrove is going. He’s a San Diego native. Feels like mlb storyline they can run with.

DJack was brought back before to be a WR.  I'm looking to upgrade Covey.  The mere presence of DJack on PR is more of a threat than Covey with the ball in his hands.  If DJack is the PR and never plays an offensive snap he will have a bigger impact than Covey.

No one wants to bring back DJack with the hopes he finds the fountain of youth and is catching 70 yard TD passes.  We, or at least I, want him with the threat of taking a punt to the house every time he's back there.  All it takes is one big return for him and teams will start rethinking how they punt against the Eagles.  The return units are trash.  Part of that is they need better blocking but Covey is a ragdoll.

How I feel every time Covey has the ball.

Context matters.  DeSean's contract with the Rams was heavy on incentives and when it became clear he wasn't going to hit those incentives with the playing time he was getting he requested a trade. If you bring him in for the role of punt returner then you don't make the contract heavy on incentives for receiving.

So, it was about the money, but you think he'd come here for peanuts to be the punt returner?   And....

he's not this guy anymore.

Not even a close approximation.   He's more likely to be this guy:

No, he really can't.

Listen here Ed Kracz🤣 DJack can be productive here....IF he buys in to a role.  He wouldn't be here to be the WR1 (Brown), WR2 (Smith) or even WR3 (Pascal).  DJack would come here to be PR/KR and occasional deep threat.

I just posted this but I don't see Watkins getting a 2nd contract here at all.  He's a FA after next year and I think you can get something for him in return and address the deep threat again in FA or the draft.

The treat of DJack taking one to the house effects how teams would punt to the Eagles. Covey offers no threat.

Yeah, that's a big if for a guy that just left the eventual SB winner because he was unhappy with his role there.

As for Covey as a threat... Jackson isn't a threat anymore either.

DeSean didn't return any punts in 2021. He returned 5 in 2020 to no success. Returned zero in 2019. Was meh in 2018.

You're basically hoping he strikes fear out of reputation and is better at fair catches.

Precisely.  No threat.   I'm not hoping for anything.  No need to have him added.
