I can’t believe mlb didn’t make a travel day on the Monday after game 5 considering it’s a coast to coast trip. They are trying to get it in faster due to the late start. But that’s absolutely ridiculous. You could still start the World Series on Friday as the NLCS would be over on Wednesday if it went 7

Yup.  Once it was obvious after the division series were set that the Championship series was going to be bi-coastal, they had to put in a travel day between 5 & 6.

BUT... maybe the Phils can win it in 4 or 5, and it won't matter.  ;).

If he can survive this inning unscathed, then he’ll have the soft part of the lineup for 8.

He did.  Let's see what happens now.

Need another run or two added on here.  We're in to their bullpen now.  Make them pay.

I’m hoping the Phillies can win it in 4 or 5. However if it goes longer I’m making the drive out to SD for game 6 and 7

Seems Wheeler is coming out.   I guess with him still getting stretched out... its the safe play.  And he'll be set to return for Game 5.

I like Alvarado but at only 83 pitches I’d go back to wheeler. It’s the bottom of the padres lineup and Alvarado you want for soto

I agree.  But that's why they are going with Dominguez now.  Alvarado for the 9th.

If this doesn't go well, Thomson leaves himself wide open for second guessing.  But, I am feeling good about Seranthony.

The right decision, all things being equal, is to leave Wheeler in.  No debate.  But all things are not equal and they are still stretching him out.  So it may be what they have to do.

Yup.  If he wasn't just returning from injury, I don't think there's even a thought about pulling him.  BUT... Wheeler hasn't gone 'deep' yet and last game they left him in for maybe an inning more than they should have, and he surrendered 3 in that final frame (granted, with some help from Hoskins).

I think due to the lefties and switch hitters coming up they likely want to go Alvarado to the top of the lineup.

Yup.  Smart move to have Alvarado for the 9th.

I get what you’re saying, but this was the reason why during the regular season I got irritated that they didn’t try to keep getting his pitch count higher into the 90s with each start after he returned form IL. I thought they should’ve been trying to get him close as they could to 90-95 so that in the postseason if they needed to to go over 100 he’d be fine. With the way he’s pitching tonight I wouldn’t even thought about taking him out if they would’ve done that down the stretch. Thankfully dominguez is money

Wheeler couldn't have done better than that!   And Dominguez just got a LOT of confidence for when they need him later in this series.

Once again, everything coming up roses for Thomson's moves.

You aren't wrong... but I think they were more worried about a flare up that would potentially lead to a set back.   They were conservative.  And frankly, it seems they made the right call.

looked pretty good to me.

Can the top of the order put up another insurance run or two?   Would be nice.   And would make the 9th that much more comfortable.

They’ll use Alvarado but with how dominguez looked that inning with just 9 pitches hard to take him out. He’s been lights out his last couple appearances.

Could leave him in with Alvarado behind him in case they get to Soto with a base runner on...

As Zumoff would say, we are coming in for a landing.

Let's get it done...  3 outs to go.

It’s what i would do. But I’m guessing it would mean no dominguez tomorrow. Which with nola on the mound maybe you don’t need him and can just use Alvarado back to back with Robertson.

Can't count on that though.   So, this is again... the conservative move... and likely the smart one.

Hoping it works out smoothly. I’d be way more confident in Alvarado if in 2 of his last 6 appearances he didn’t give up runs. Also 9th inning he’s not been a closer for a while.

2 more to go...

not... good...

wow. this guy wants some excitement.
