Yea it’s a shame because they didn’t even play that well on offense. That was a really fluky inning that they couldn’t take advantage of in the long run.

Gotta hope the bats heat back up at CBP.

Nope got fortunate that soto lost they ball in the sun. I don’t think the Phillies have to win all 3 games at CBP to win this series. If they win 2 of 3 at home and game 6 you have nola going i tend to believe it favors the Phillies. I think nola will be better next game and he’s pitched well against SD in the past. The issue is it’s really tough sledding with the pitching matchups the Phillies have going: Suarez vs. musgrove, thor/bullpen vs. clevenger and wheeler vs. darvish. That’s in the padres favor and if game 4 between thor and clevenger becomes a bullpen game that tends to favor the padres pen cause right now only guys i really trust in the pen are Alvarado and dominguez.

On the Phillies thread we discussed at the deadline what the Phillies should do. I said they really should go out and try to acquire another no. 1 or 2 starter cause if you make the playoffs it was going to catch up with them that Suarez would matchup against a much better pitcher like musgrove. When you looked at the NL at that time the dodgers could go kershaw, urias, gonsolin/Anderson, the padres darvish, snell and musgrove, Braves strider, Wright and fried and Mets degrom, scherzer and bassitt. To me the 3rd starter on any of those teams was significantly better than Suarez. That’s not a knock on Suarez as much as it’s those teams had 3rd starters that could be a 1 or 2. I’m praying Suarez gives us a gem like he’s done before. He’s a lefty so that helps with the padres lineup. He’s only faced the padres once this year in June. Went 7.1 innings giving up 2 ER.

Based on nothing whatsoever, I feel like we get a great Suarez outing and a nice handful of runs at home in 3 and then a nuts game 4 with 15 runs between them (with the Phils getting 1 more than the Padres) and a sick Game 5 gem from Wheeler with Darvish getting hammered in 3 innings. Like getting the signs stolen of old hammered.

But I am high AF now and also I thought for sure the baseball g-ds were on our side when the Sun itself got us runs scored.

I hope you are right and your gut feel plays out. I’ve decided to bet against the Phillies in hopes if i do that I’ll lose every time and jinx the padres lol

A good look at our oline versus their dline.

(437) Matchup Breakdown: Analyzing Dallas Cowboys DL vs Eagles OL - YouTube

The Dallas line does some interesting things on defense in terms of pass rushing, and Parsons is a legit monster, but I came away thinking that we could have just run the ball against them the whole game and they never would have stopped it. It seems like the running plays that did get stopped were due to missed blocks or rbs not finding the right hole rather than their defense doing anything special.

Our line is so athletic.  I like these breakdowns

Frustrating that they were so close to punching their ticket to the WS today had Nola just showed up.

Regardless, a 1-1 split on the road in the NLCS is a better spot than we ever figured to be in.

Yup.  Playing with house money.

FYI, anyone who thinks Hurts has limits in his skillset is a drooling imbecile.

What are these limits? Can he not throw deep? He can. Can he not evade the rush? He can. Can he not hit short and medium passes with touch? He can. Can he not read defenses? He can. Can he not call plays at the line like a field general? He can. Can he throw for 80% completions in a game? Can he throw for 300+ yards and 3+ TDs? Can he run for 100 yards?  Can he run for 3 TDs? Can he not move on to second and third reads? He can. It may hurt your feelings that on RPO plays he's not supposed to wait for 3rd reads. Who cares about your feelings? There is nothing that an NFL QB does that he can not do. Not having Josh Allen's arm strength is not a limit to a skillset. Hurts probably has comparable arm strength to Tom Brady so his arm strength ceiling is 7 SBs.

Lets say you invented a new QB skill called getting your team up by 15+ points 6 weeks in a row? He'd have that one too.

2022 Hurts is a better QB, leader, employee, football player, son, brother, friend, and man right now than 2022 Aaron Rodgers. (for one example) His draft evaluation and draft position are meaningless at this point like they are for every NFL player years after the draft. This is not CFB rankings where your start position matters. Ask Tom Brady about evaluations and draft position. FYI, at the same point in his NFL career Rodgers was still being breastfed by Favre. The next year he went 6-10. Peyton Manning was 32-32 after 4 years and year 4 was a 6 pick 6 coach killing season. Hurts is not only playing like an MVP, he is far ahead of the curve to be this good this fast.  (Mahomes and Jackson were unicorns)

  • Hurts is 4th in ANY/A
  • He is 5th in QB Rating
  • He is 7th in DVOA
  • His 2022 record is the best in the NFL and is actually perfect so far. No one else can say that.
  • He is 11-1 in his last 12 starts. (It would be 12-0 if Reagor was not a joke)
  • He has led his 2022 team's offense to rankings of 4th in points and 3rd in yards.
  • He's on a pace for 4289 passing yards (Eagles record) and 17 TDs while also rushing for 830 yards and 17 more TDs.

After 6 weeks he's 1 or 2 in the NFL MVP rankings to anyone that can be taken seriously.

I would say his 2022 limits are League MVP and SB MVP.  I'm not saying he gets either, but those are obviously the realistic limits after 6 weeks.

Only a fool would say a top 5 QB on a top 5 offense on the only team that is undefeated would have lower limits.

Folks in support of Hurts by and large are realistic about his game. You and your clique continue to use this logical fallacy to try and position support for Hurts in the extreme -- it is a tactic, not a position for reasonable discussion and it misrepresents people just so you can satisfy your 5th grade smarty pants jones. People supporting him are also hoping he continues to grow as a QB, that he continues to learn to read defenses better, increase his ability to go through a play's progressions and not run as much, etc. He has done a great deal of this, appears to be highly coachable and driven to succeed. Hat's off to our QB and a Bronx cheer to you and your boy band.

Appeal to Extremes

Description: Erroneously attempting to make a reasonable argument into an absurd one, by taking the argument to the extremes.

Ridiculous.   Almost as dumb as the "nothing to lose” line.  The Padres snuck into the postseason too and it’s not like they’re some juggernaut.  A team that has the payroll the Phillies have, isn’t a "house money” team.  No excuses.

Correct. Wouldn’t matter if they were playing the Dodgers. Getting to a World Series is hard.

The big game of the week is tonight. Go Cards!

Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a glorious and peaceful day!

How does a guy with superior skillset lose his starting job at bama? how does he slip to the 2nd round(where he was drafted too soon). How does he get embarrassed by Tampa last year?

How does he still look lost against the blitz?

LEt's be honest, dudes playing well. he lacks the arm and he lacks reading defenses. both are skills. His anticipation throws have gotten better but I would say theyre limited.

But sure, tell me how we have Tom Brady in his prime

I'm not digging at Hurts, but there is a clear talent difference between him and the likes of Mahomes, Allen and Rodgers.  Would the Eagles trade for any of those QBs on a talent perspective?  Yup.  If we had one of those QBs, we would not trade for Hurts.  It's harsh, but reality too

If I were GB I'd trade Rodgers for Hurts just because of the future. Clearly Mahomes & Allen are better. Though Hurts has everyone beat in not turning the ball over which is a big stat.

1) Because Alabama was a juggernaut and happened to have an even better quarterback prospect in Tua.

2) Are people still clinging to the "he was drafted too soon" mantra? Seriously? He's already shown to be an above average NFL starting quarterback. Those are really, really hard to come by. Finding one with the fifty-somethingth pick is pretty damn good bargain. It's small minded to still complain about a draft pick that caught people off guard and created an immediate negative impression when that pick actually was objectively a good one.

3) Dan Marino once lost a playoff game by a gazillion points. It's a team game. Blowouts sometimes happen and aren't necessarily a reflection of a quarterback.

I would argue Hurts is hiding the shortcomings of the coaches more than they are hiding the shortcomings of Hurts.

The problem with running a team is that you have to worry about optics and how to treat beloved players.

They should trade Rodgers for picks, right now, and spend the rest of the year finding out if Love is the guy.

But that would get a gm fired.

Any team that traded for Rodgers mid season would have to have a prior relationship with him and run a similar offense.  Dropping a QB into a new scheme mid year is risky and with Rodgers who knows if he'd retire on a whim

Wait, so is he above average(which I agree with) or is he a baller, with no holes in his game and superior talent?

The point is you’re still using weak arguments to state your case.
