Chargers?  Tampa?  They are not good teams this year

Literally I was the one talking ish about Hurts and I would have fallen over if someone told us we'd be 6-0, regardless of opponent.  To just pretend that Hurts hasnt improved is flat out wrong.  Be a man and call it like you see it.

It doesnt mean Hurts has to be your idol, just that hes winning games and addressing some of his weaknesses.  I didnt think he could do it.

Talent comes in many flavors.  Hurts has clearly earned the opportunity to continue developing.  If the guy can figure out how to beat a blitz mote consistently with his brain and arm, the NFL will absolutely have a major problem stopping our offense.  Its worth pursuing this.  Stop talking about the guy like he's dogshit, hes been much better than that.

The genesis of this recent hurts discussion came from a few posters wondering why we haven’t called and/or taken more deep shots.

I postulated that Hurts seems overly risk averse, and while that can be good (his turnover numbers are fantastic), like all things it’s best to avoid extremes. And my opinion is that Hurts himself isn’t comfortable with deep throws because they offer a much higher chance of a turnover. His deep throwing is certainly one of his weaker areas, which plays into his reluctance to make said throws, but people don’t want to have a discussion, they jump down your throat offering that he has no weaknesses and we’re just haters. It’s maddening how quickly it devolves in here.

Tampa beat Dallas and Dallas was our hardest matchup thus far.

Yes, I know it's not how the NFL works, but let's be honest, Dallas with Cooper Rush being our "hardest matchup" doesnt rank high in the power rankings.

And yes, I truly believe if Minshew was  our starter through training camp, preseason, with this roster and this defense, we'd be 5-1 or 6-0 with him.

Well we’re 6-0 with Hurts so who tf cares

There are also legitimate counterpoints to your statement like the fact that the OL fell apart in at least two of our games, and those two games happen to be where we've seen more conservative play from Hurts.

Im totally fine with Hurts limiting risk and managing the game. 100%

It would be different if the team needed him to do those things, but we havent.  Hes done almost exactly what they've asked him to do, with a play here or there that reverts back to his old habits

So youre going to play the association game.  If I beat you and you beat them, and they beat someone else....you know thats baloney

Im off the Minshew train.  The dude didnt take the offseason seriously.  Id feel different if he didnt take "no" for an answer and prepped like he was the starter instead of hanging out in a a van all summer.

And, we beat Minnesota.  Theyre a legit team.  We crushed them.

FYI, anyone who thinks Hurts has limits in his skillset is a drooling imbecile.

What are these limits? Can he not throw deep? He can. Can he not evade the rush? He can. Can he not hit short and medium passes with touch? He can. Can he not read defenses? He can. Can he not call plays at the line like a field general? He can. Can he throw for 80% completions in a game? Can he throw for 300+ yards and 3+ TDs? Can he run for 100 yards?  Can he run for 3 TDs? Can he not move on to second and third reads? He can. It may hurt your feelings that on RPO plays he's not supposed to wait for 3rd reads. Who cares about your feelings? There is nothing that an NFL QB does that he can not do. Not having Josh Allen's arm strength is not a limit to a skillset. Hurts probably has comparable arm strength to Tom Brady so his arm strength ceiling is 7 SBs.

Lets say you invented a new QB skill called getting your team up by 15+ points 6 weeks in a row? He'd have that one too.

2022 Hurts is a better QB, leader, employee, football player, son, brother, friend, and man right now than 2022 Aaron Rodgers. (for one example) His draft evaluation and draft position are meaningless at this point like they are for every NFL player years after the draft. This is not CFB rankings where your start position matters. Ask Tom Brady about evaluations and draft position. FYI, at the same point in his NFL career Rodgers was still being breastfed by Favre. The next year he went 6-10. Peyton Manning was 32-32 after 4 years and year 4 was a 6 pick 6 coach killing season. Hurts is not only playing like an MVP, he is far ahead of the curve to be this good this fast.  (Mahomes and Jackson were unicorns)

  • Hurts is 4th in ANY/A
  • He is 5th in QB Rating
  • He is 7th in DVOA
  • His 2022 record is the best in the NFL and is actually perfect so far. No one else can say that.
  • He is 11-1 in his last 12 starts. (It would be 12-0 if Reagor was not a joke)
  • He has led his 2022 team's offense to rankings of 4th in points and 3rd in yards.
  • He's on a pace for 4289 passing yards (Eagles record) and 17 TDs while also rushing for 830 yards and 17 more TDs.

After 6 weeks he's 1 or 2 in the NFL MVP rankings to anyone that can be taken seriously.

I would say his 2022 limits are League MVP and SB MVP.  I'm not saying he gets either, but those are obviously the realistic limits after 6 weeks.

Only a fool would say a top 5 QB on a top 5 offense on the only team that is undefeated would have lower limits.

Top 5 QB. Leader. MVP. Superbowls. Money and glory...

The biggest question so far with this team is whats happening in the entire 2nd half of games, specifically on offense. Why cant we score and put teams away instead of letting them linger and playing on thin ice? Aside from the penalties and the injuries because we havent been injured along the Oline in every game, the one consistency is that Jalen Hurts and Shane Steichen's passing offense has been completely ineffective. Jalen Hurts is averaging 6.8 completions and 69.5 yards in the entire 2nd half. He is running almost the same amount of times with only 5 less carries but his average goes from 5.1 ypc to 2.3 ypc. QBs getting shut down in the 2nd half happens, but not for 6 games in a row. You can not say Jalen is a top 5 or even top 10 QB when he plays great for only 1 quarter a game. The only good thing Jalen is doing in the 2nd half is not turning the ball over. Sanders on the other hand is going from 4.1 ypc in the 1st half to 5.1 ypc in the 2nd. Sanders and this Oline is putting the team on their back and getting the job done...because they have to...

I would say most of this is on Shane Steichen as he is getting thoroughly out coached and teams are figuring out this offense at halftime, which to me screams a smoke screen or gimmick offense that only works for a short amount of time. Either Jalen is getting held back by Shane because he cant adjust in the 2nd half and his play calling turns to ****, or Jalen is just very limited on what he can do well as far as executing the passing side of the offense and once teams figure him out he really doesnt offer much of anything to this offense other than not turning the ball over. But when your QB is essentially nonexistent in any way on offense for an entire half...due to the coach or the player....of course it leads to 0 points and lets other teams back in the game. They need to fix this issue some how because it will be the reason they are sent home in the playoffs.

Sure, Reagor dropped two passes at the end, but why did the Eagles even need a TD at the end to tie the game ??

Couldn't possibly be that Hurts went 8 of 15 for 73 yards and 2 interceptions in the first half.

Couldn't possibly be that Hurts went 8 of 18 for 73 yards and 3 interceptions halfway into the 3rd quarter.

The Giants sucked, and should not have been in that game.

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that. It’s a cumulative effect. Tired muscles mean more potential injury. Load management is pretty important. Maybe the Niners give frequent rest days for vets for maintenance as a way to make up for a tougher camp. We know the Eagles do both.

Why does he keep leaving out the playoff game?

4 hours ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Ridiculous.   Almost as dumb as the "nothing to lose” line.  The Padres snuck into the postseason too and it’s not like they’re some juggernaut.  A team that has the payroll the Phillies have, isn’t a "house money” team.  No excuses.

You clearly don’t know what "playing with house money” means.

”nothing to lose” has a very different meaning.  There is plenty to lose for the Phillies right now.  That is written large on Bryce’s face.

How does a guy with superior skillset lose his starting job at bama? how does he slip to the 2nd round(where he was drafted too soon). How does he get embarrassed by Tampa last year?

How does he still look lost against the blitz?

LEt's be honest, dudes playing well. he lacks the arm and he lacks reading defenses. both are skills. His anticipation throws have gotten better but I would say theyre limited.

But sure, tell me how we have Tom Brady in his prime

Phillies seemed more than ok with splitting and coming back home. They even said in the PC's after

Was that the players saying that … or the sportswriters?

play with house money

  • 1. To fund something with sudden winnings or unexpected earnings, thus making such an endeavor seem less risky. A: "Who cares if our trip gets canceled and we don't get our deposit back? We're using that money I won, so we're playing with house money!" ...
  • 2. By extension, to be in a situation that has no significant downside or loss, no matter the outcome. ...

How are they playing with "house money", genius?  In your typical fashion, you act more self-righteous than your intelligence should allow. I know what the term means, you're not as smart as you pretend.   Look at #2, seems like it's close to "nothing to lose" to me.

Or, I'll share this explanation specifically referring to sports.  So, you're wrong....again.

 3. In sports playing on house money refers to going up against an overwhelming favorite and playing loose and free like you have nothing to lose

Again, explain the silly comment or run and hide.

I'm not sure who it was who explained your schtick, maybe it was @HazletonEagle that said you make ridiculous statements that are proven wrong, yet you still go all in.

Here’s a simple question for you.  Have the Phillies exceeded the expectations you had for them at the start of the season?  If you say "no” then for you they are not playing with house money.  The expression simply means that you are gambling with money that you have already won.

for anyone who says "yes” to that question they have exceeded expectations.  NBC Sports Philadelphia was conducting instant polls the last two weeks of the regular season and 97% of the people who responded to the poll said "no the Phillies would not make the playoffs”. For those 97% the team has exceeded expectations.

I didn’t agree with the polls.  So they weren’t playing with house money for me.  I also felt they would beat the Cardinals, so again no house money.  I did feel that was their logical ceiling … and expected a Braves win.  So, when they exceeded that expectation I personally had house money in hand.  However, I will gladly accept more house money.

playing with house money doesn’t mean you don’t want to win more.

Nice, personal shots

I don’t take what he says personally … and Hazlelton’s observation has merit, although the word "proven” is shaky.  My M.O. here in the Blog is to increase the volume and velocity of discussion.

Hurts has definitely improved but there is still a lot more he needs to work on

I don't think he's the future yet but he's looking a hell of a lot better than before
