EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

A lot of people have been beating the salary cap drum in here for years.  When is the last time the eagles had to part with a high caliber player because of the cap? Howie got this.  Let him "kick the can" as far down the road as he wants. Bish and cry when we actually lose a player due to being over the cap.  Until then, stfu

As of today, we have 16M in cap space for 2023.

The following is already included, but outlines some issues
- 12M for Hargrave, even though he likely won't be on the team
- 21M for Kelce, even though he'll likely retire. We may get some cap relief from his retirement (up to 11M), but I also can't see the Eagles taking that money back from him. They're allowed to do this. It's why Calvin Johnson tells the Lions to F off all the time. They did it to him after he retired.
- 10M for Cox, even though he likely won't be on the team
- 7,5M for Seumalo even though he likely won't be on the team
- 9.8M for Brandon Brooks, who is retired
- 10M for Barnett, who likely won't be brought back.

That's 70M in dead cap, roughly 31%, before any other restructures.
Howie can June 1 some of those (ex: push half of Kelce's 21M to 2023), but you're just pushing out the pain.

The only reason it's not affecting this roster is that we're not paying our QBs. We're getting 30-40M in value from the Hurts' contract.

Makes sense why Howie was super aggressive this offseason. It’s our last year we can afford a roster like this. We won’t be able to have 2 #1 corners and WRs forever

There have been times when we could not afford a FA or trade because of bad contracts made by Howie. You can always say he wouldn't have traded for that player but it's not like we could have if we wanted to

He's also had to recently fix problems he created

I think Doug might knock off the giants on Sunday, the giants are going to slip up eventually. Their talent doesn’t match their record.

Also could see Washington as bad as they are getting a one game spark with Wentz gone and beat the awful Packers

If things continue as expected, our 17th game will be at KC next season.  (Not necessarily on week 17)

And we'll be hosting Buffalo.

A good year to have the first place schedule because we'd also probably play the Bucs and Vikings

After winning the SB and selecting Wil Anderson with the #3 pick, we'll be hosting the Vikings on the Thursday night opener.

Reddick and Anderson each get 1.5 sacks on the way to a 27-10 victory.

Jalen Reagor scores the TD though and the season is over.

Contracts are bad contracts when the player is bad.  Good contracts are ones for good players.  While signing Alshon Jeffrey and Wentz to extensions was bad and hur the team down the road, it was because those players played so poorly.  If the team trades for Burns and signs him to an extension thant's likely to be a good deal because he has potential to be a great player.

I would say it's abnormal. That's probably what led into the awful offensive playcalling vs the Cardinals when we just kept throwing screens that would get blown up consistently since we seemingly condensed our playbook a lot that game due to all the blitzing.

Yup, I agree, the screens in that game were a bit of overkill.

Maybe going forward Siri and Steichen adjust and add some hots, if not could be a problem going forward.

Using that same logic would have nullified the trade for Jason Peters.

The Peters contract was quite reasonable for a LT.

Why i posted it in here instead of the Netflix thread.  I though there would be a few in here that would be interested.

That's because half of what he says comes from the Book of Cliches and fortune cookies.

The FO definitely got caught out a little when the cap didn't go up when COVID hit; this season is a quiet push for success for a certain generation of player, but the fundamentals of building a roster with draft picks are there.  The roster isn't in the position the likes of Saints and Panther are where it's a dumpster fire waiting to happen. They have optionality

Is it foreign language?  I don’t mind, but my wife isn’t a fan when it’s dubbed.  Hard to play candy crush and read a movie at the same time.

Seems to be English.  Can't say if it's just dubbed or not. But shouldn't have to read anything
