Just catching up on the Blog, and what appears to be JRs funeral.

Except I'm pretty sure he announced he was quitting the board like a week ago? Where were all the eulogies then? Why are all the rats (like t-1000, acenova and their ilk) crawling out of the woodwork now to mourn him?

JR is a big boy, he had the ability to simply ignore 4for4 if he had that much of a problem with him. And that goes for everybody, if you don't like what a poster says, or the topic they raise, you don't have to respond. You don't have to "fight" back. Just ignore it and move on.

I think many take this place far too seriously, and it is a great place to discuss not only football but all general topics, but my god, it's a message board at the end of the day, have some fun with it.

It's called common decency. That doesn't just go away because you're on the internet. Of course everyone wants to have fun and joke around but that is not what goes on. He drives people out of this place because of his antics. I find it funny that you tell someone who calls out this immature person to grow up instead of the immature person that tries to act like a middle school bully. He doesn't need to grow up? It doesn't matter now, but it's crazy to me how many of you side with this guy.

Interesting. I use them for liquor/beer and the prices are always the best out of anyone local or Publix for liquor. Beer maybe not but it’s usually something hard to find so I dunno how that compares.

Beer is difficult because there really is no profit in beer. In some unique IPAs or craft beer there is, but for the most part beer is typically sold at 5-10% above cost. It is a high volume mover that is not as shelf stable as liquor or wine, so it is about moving as much of it as quickly as possible.

Liquor they will buy massive bulk at a huge discount and then sell that at or below cost. Sometimes they will have a year plus of inventory in stock of common items.  Liquor can sit on the shelf for years and years without ever going bad. They use that as the way to get people in the store and then use aggressive sales techniques to try and get you to buy wine.

You are in Florida right? Do you have a ABC near you? I just wonder how their prices compare.

People do take this place to seriously.  This is not the intellectual gathering of football minds you think it is.  It is more like dudes talking football at the bar.

While there is some things that can be learned from some posts, people take themselves way to seriously.

My main gripe, is people make absurd statements and then take offense when called out, and run and hide behind the ignore feature.  The ignore feature should be a privilege, not a right in my opinion.   To many people use if for the wrong reason, and still reference those they have on ignore.

Not trying to start a discussion, just giving my opinion.  Now moving on.

I think it was afan who posed the question yesterday of how much Hurts has improved, vs how much the supporting case has to do with the results we are seeing.

I believe most of it is due to the supporting cast.

Week 1 looked a lot like last season. Wasnt very good.

Week 2 and 3 were amazing. And even his most ardent "haters" were believing he may have finally arrived. Myself included. Especially that week 3 game where he was airing it out like crazy. I think there were at least 6 deep shots in that game. Most were completed. There were 2nd and long situations and 3rd and long situations that were being overcome with ease. Sometimes even a few in a drive and the drive would still continue. It was a beautiful display of offense much like the greatest show on turf.

Then week 4 happened. Hurts was slow and late. But also played in bad weather and we gave him a pass. Then the Arizona game happened. He basically threw nothing beyond 10 yards. Maybe 2 passes went 12 yards. They nearly ended up losing the game. It was inefficient. I began doubting him again.

Then the Cowboys game happened. The gameplan was similar, but looked a slightly different, and slightly better. But still wasnt enough to win me back over.

Finally we arrived at the Steelers game. Suddenly, the deep ball was back, for the first time since Week 3. And they were dimes. 3 to AJ Brown for TDs, and one more that was a good enough throw probably should  have been a 4th TD. But his supporters will focus on that and care to see nothing else. In reality, he was undeniably horrible on his other passes. He took numerous sacks. One of them was Wentz-like non-existant pocket presence. He threw in to double coverage a lot, even though it ended up working out in this game. He spazzed out on one pass and missed seeing Quez for an easy TD throw. And even many of his completions were those short-intermediate range wobblers where the nose of the football was down and the ball was diving at the ground. They got to the WR, but barely. They had no zip. Those are interceptions waiting to happen. Goedert had to make a great 1 handed snag on a ball thrown well behind him. Smith had a drop on an absolutely horrid pass thrown behind him. There were a TON of mistakes. You watch greats like Brady occasionally throw a bad pass or 2 in games and say wow even the greats do it. People use that to support Hurts, but Hurts plays with a game full of bad passes.

The results are there. The performance itself leaves a LOT to be desired.

Now, results matter more than style. If Hurts isnt all that great, but the team can win because of its supporting cast, thats fine.

So the question that really matters is- If the supporting cast is whats carrying this team, but Hurts has improved- Has he at least improved just enough to beat the elite teams in the AFC in a superbowl?

As of right now, I am pretty positive the answer is no.

We lack the explosiveness (consistently) on offense to make me believe we can win a shootout type of game (with a great team like the Bills, not with the freakin Lions).

We only have 2 games, out of 7 that resembled the style of play necessary to be competitive in a superbowl against the Bills or Chiefs.

Can I be convinced? Yes.

I need to see more games like the Washington and Pittsburgh game. I need to see him throwing the deep ball a lot more in games. Like he did in those two.

I dont even care that much if he isnt real sharp in the intermediate stuff. Josh Allen for all the hype he gets isnt the most accurate short and intermediate QB. Through his career he has been very up and down game to game with completion percentage, and even TD:INT ratio.

The one thing that is consistent is, the guy is explosive.

Same with Russell Wilson. He isnt a very good QB in the traditional sense, but he is a phenomenal explosive playmaker. Consistently enough (with Seattle anyway) to win a ton of games, and even a superbowl, supported by his supporting cast which was a great D, and WRs who made plays for him.

Hurts can do that. I believe he can even get there this year. But he needs to show me he is willing to air it out. A lot. Every game. Being good at that is our only shot to win a super bowl. The offense needs to be consistently explosive in the passing game. Thats all that matters.

From what I can remember, grocery stores actual lose money on frozen foods for a similar reason.  Cost to store and shelf life.

But they need to have it in order to bring customers in for the high margin stuff like prepared, bakery, butcher, etc.

Pretty sure Mod6 said end the drama and move on. The parties involved got their punishments.

People, this is a fan-driven internet message board dedicated to a team we all love. This is NOT your life, or at least...shouldn't be.

The whole "remember 20 years ago when I first started posting on the EMB with my Walmart-provided free AOL CD-ROM so I could dial into the internetz" flex is dumb. People that divulge personal things to complete strangers who then get a little butt-hurt when someone pokes some fun at them is silly.

Stop taking this place so damn seriously.

I'm on here to have some laughs, stay up on Eagles happenings, and share in some camaraderie amongst fellow fans.

When I close my browser, I literally do not think about this place in the least bit.

Some of you have made a message board WAY too big a part of your lives if you can't stop thinking about this place when you're not logged in. 4for4 or Bacarty or RTK or anyone do not affect my life in any measurable way, shape, or form.

If you have an issue with someone and you can't stand their content, block them. Simple. Easy.

I find it absolutely ridiculous I even have to type all of this, but some of you are frighteningly obsessive with this place.

Now, my after-school special speech is over.

Go :phil:

The you take it too serious crowd is old news.

Is this board real life?nope, yet the people behind the screen are real people with real feelings, we're not a bunch of bots.

Not taking the board " too" serious isn't an excuse to be a total D hole And attempt to bully other posters.

I try to be kind in my interactions with others on this board the few times I'm not are a result of me acting in response to how some one was unkind to me.

There's a difference between posters joking around with each other and posters attacking each other.

For instance multiple posters in here will joke about me having multiple wives, it's all in good fun, other times they'll make fun of my mom or sister, or my height ect...it's all just stupid fun.

It's different though when posters make a concerted effort to personally attack another poster and worse when there is a concerted effort by multiple posters ganging up against another poster to belittle them to other posters on the board.

This is a community with an expected level of respect for each other, and that respect keeps the board from devolving Into a festering pile of sludge that can be found all over the internet.

Saying I've been on this board for 20 years isn't a flex, it's a way of saying we've managed to stay around over 20 years without imploding the board because of that certain level of respect and maybe if we're lucky we'll continue to be able to have this space if instead of not taking it too serious we take it

The appropriate level of seriousness it deserves.

Sucks for them.

But at least he will be fine. I dont need to see him in the combine to know he can get after the passer. And, its a pec so he will maintain all of his explosive ability. Shouldnt really affect his draft stock at all.

It's an anonymous message board. If when you click the X in the top right of your screen, you're still thinking about this place or how someone made you feel, my opinion is you have some issues. Not saying anyone is right or wrong in this situation. The mods made that determination and imposed a punishment I have no issue with.

Just saying...I have a 14 year old daughter, nobody in here can hurt my feelings...she's destroyed them all.

I want to hone in on this for a moment. I feel that if you want to bet the top two teams in the AFC, you want to limit the possessions that the other teams offense has by running the ball and controlling the clock. It is not about getting into a shootout with them. I don't think that the Bills or the Chiefs want to get into a shootout with each other as well.

With that in mind, I think the Eagles have the right personnel to pull that off. They can run the ball on any team, they can play defense, and they are good in the red zone. It would not be about Hurts trying to throw 50 times in the game and trying to hit every homerun ball. It would be about dinking and dunking and taking a shot here or there.

Love slay, too bad he was wasted all those years in Detroit

After his first year here I was pretty tough on him, I thought for a guy named big play he didn't make any big plays

Then year 2 he was making plays and this year that game against Minnesota locking down JJ( not Whiteside) was the best game by a corner I've ever seen.

Not sure how long Slay will be an eagle but going to enjoy him while he's here and still playing at a high level!

A few more games like Hurts had Sunday will represent another jump to me.

Yes the supporting cast has certainly helped, AJ Brown has made Jalen Hurts' life easier in multiple ways.  But hes still quicker and more confident in where the ball should go, and hes not regularly looking like a lost puppy in the pocket.

Id like to see him continue to improve in the pocket, on his deep drops he isnt always stepping up into pocket when the situation calls for it and hes taken a couple sacks/hits like that.

Id also like to see him continue to take shots downfield to keep defenses off of the LOS.

If Hurts can continue to do that, I don't care who we play - KC or Buffalo included - we have a good shot.

Dallas has a better defense matchup-wise than both Buffalo and KC.  Id like to see him build on the first game.

We all have issues, why else would we be here.😉

I'm a sensitive person, always have been, I'm also and extrovert which means I get a large amount of my energy from Interactions with people, having bad interactions with people on here is still having bad interactions with people, whether they are behind a screen or face to face .

I don't separate the two all together some people aren't affected by the interactions at all they have with people, they're called sociopaths.

Now if one is losing sleep over the interactions one has on here maybe change those interactions or change the way one reacts or both.

Either way not taking things too serious isn't an excuse to be a D hole and as stated why not we give the board the level of seriousness it deserves what ever that is🤷‍♂️

Having said that I don't look forward to my daughter's teenage years, I have 2 they're twins just turned 6 and they've already destroyed me😁

Interesting that even though we have an effective offense, we still punt more than half the league because we don't turn the ball over.

Drives should end with kicks.  (You'll find Thursday's opponent towards the bottom.)

It sounds good in theory, but we saw how it worked in 2017. We HAD the explosive offense. We got out to leads early. And then we ran the ball and limited possessions for the other team so they couldnt come back.

However, in the superbowl we ran in to another juggernaut. Only so much you can do to limit an opponents possessions when THEY can score quickly. Theyre going to get more possessions no matter what because they arent holding the ball long. That leaves more time for them to get more chances with it.

If we run the Arizona type offense, that takes some time, but doesnt score consistently enough (especially wont against a D like Buffalo's). So we arent going to keep up.

When you cant limit another teams possessions, you have to be able to score with them.

2017 was a complete team. We played either style (ball control running game, or explosive passing game) well enough to beat anyone.

This team- we can control the ball. Can be become consistently explosive? We HAVE to. Right now we havent shown it. Its been there for 2 games out of 7. Need to see much more to believe in it.
