Would you have given that up for Chubb if you were Howie?

Not the Saints pick, the Eagles own pick.

Very possible... I'd definitely do it for Derrick Brown right now.

I don't think he's going anywhere

The key to the Quinn trade is he’s a rental.

the key to the Chubb trade is he will get a 100m$ contract from the dolphins shortly, which we could have never afforded with all the stuff we have going on next offseason

this is some good acting, better than blocking the guy.

I really like Chubb and wanted him as a free agent target, but also he has an injury history and you'd have to pay him a ton in addition to the pick. So I'm torn on if I'd have done that.

Bradley Chubb is a UFA. We already have a ton of free agents to sign and little cap space. Trading a 1 for him is irresponsible. Better off giving 2 1st for Burns.

Yup. Blocked perfectly, cut inside and see ya...

This is the play I mentioned yesterday in that miles Sanders leaves so much meat on the bone way too often for me.

Sanders gets the 1st down but he cuts in on that and it's a big gainer, he's got a truck sized lane to run through and instead cuts out right into the back of his blocker and out of bounds...😒

I remember we covered this on Friday.  You were comparing the impact of his contract to the Bears with the impact to the Eagles.

The bonus prorations weren't relevant.  They dropped his salary to the vet minimum $1.2M.  They removed '23 and '24.

Pretty straight forward.

My apologies, I probably could have been more clear.  I was countering the notion there was no restructure of his contract.  There was.  The base salary and work out bonuses in his contract were turned into a prorated bonus.  THEN they rolled up when they traded him.  Looking at the prorated totals to determine if and when a restructured occurred is relevant in this case, since it points to the bears doing a pre-trade restructure.

I did an ugly breakdown while on a call with some partners, so its not nicely structured.  But to keep you from jumping from thread to thread, I'll put it in spoilers in case you choose to read it.

The prorated bonus should go to the bears, so they eat 20 million.  And they did that for a 4th rounder?

Now here is what it looked like shortly after the trade:

Year Age Base Salary Workout Bonus   Cap
Number
Cap %
Dead Money & Cap Savings
Cut (pre-June 1)Cut (post-June 1)Trade (pre-June 1)Trade (post-June 1)RestructureExtension

2024 34 $12,900,000 $100,000   $13,000,000 5.1%
$0
$13,000,000

And here is what it looks like now:

Year Age Base Salary   Cap
Number
Cap %
Dead Money & Cap Savings
Cut (pre-June 1)Cut (post-June 1)Trade (pre-June 1)Trade (post-June 1)RestructureExtension

2022 32 $1,120,000   $684,444 0.3%
$0
$684,444

And the dead hit for the bears:

2022

Robert Quinn $11,694,537

2023

Robert Quinn $13,233,520

Total: 24,928,057

So first thing is first, its obvious SOMETHING happened to the contract to void the last two years.  Did the Bears do it (I believe they did) or the Eagles (possibly), but I don't know.

Now the dead cap hit. His prorated bonus for the next 3 years is $12,712,500 on the original contract.  That's $12,215,557 less than the bears dead cap hit.  So that screams to me that the base salary was converted to a bonus and then the trade was made.  Base salary dropped from $12,800,000 (them) to $1,120,000 (us).  That is a difference of $11,680,000.  Plus we have to add in salary paid, which I *think* was $395,294, which gets us to $12,075,294.  Then add in the 3 work out bonuses gets us to $12,375,294

$12,375,294 vs the $12,215,557 gap in the dead cap hit is pretty close without being in the room or seeing more details.  But either way, this is how we know the Bears did do a restructure.

I dunno, there have been a lot of O-line injuries and more teams that could use him now than back then. I just think Howie is holding out for a premium price that might be overshooting where the rest of the league views him. But this approach makes sense since we can just use him for depth if that offer doesn't come along.

Rumors swirling on Eagles YouTubers pages about Eagles in "serious” talks with Detroit for Jamaal Williams. These dudes bite and run with anything though.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I know a guy who works for the Lions for who said the Eagles called about Williams. How serious it is, I have no idea.

If i were the rams I’d consider doing a deal. rams oline blows and they really don’t have a great option long term at LT. Noteboom before he got hurt wasn’t very good. But yeah i think the time to do it was months ago not now

That's a Vision/Anticipation issue that has followed him seemingly forever. Misses the hole or takes the wrong cut, but then he explodes and all is forgiven...except we remember, Meat on Bone...

Not sure why the lions make that move with swift being injury prone and Campbell saying he’s not 100% and they are limiting his snaps. I can’t imagine the compensation is all that great to make that move.

Dillard is a Chip Howie's keeping in his pocket.

He will maximize value when the desperate Team calls...or sit on him for depth. No hurry.
