Almost as sad as when @olsilverhair’s wife freezes his bank account yet still gets him in his furry costume and whips him like a horse.

It’s been a distant memory because of the last couple weeks, but this offense has been boom or bust all season. This game is returning back to the form all season. For an offense as talented as they are, they had plenty of games where they inexplicably looked pathetic.

Gotta hope this is the last one like this.

He loaded the bases without getting a single out.  If that’s not earning runs…

They were smashing him too.  Hard shots almost the entire game especially the inning before. My wife even noticed it and she also didn’t know that a caught foul ball was an out earlier tonight.

He didn’t give up the hits that allowed them to score. So explain to me that logic. It’s never made any sense. Alvarado hit the first batter and somehow that’s Nola’s fault.

And good offenses will load the bases, it happens. One bad inning does not make for a bad start, it’s why raw numbers in baseball are virtually meaningless. For example, a pitcher could have a no hitter going through 6, give up two bloop infield singles and throw one bad pitch for a home run and the "raw numbers” will show 6 innings 3 earned runs, which is an average start. But one bad pitch by no means is an average  start.

Tonight he looked good as far as I’m concerned.

There’s about 200 years of logic behind it.

What is the logic behind charging a brand new pitcher an ER for throwing one pitch and hitting a batter?

You put a runner on base and can’t get out of the inning, you are responsible for them.

When a GM drafts a bust and gets fired 1 year later, do you blame the new gm for the draft bust when it becomes official in 3 years?

Sounds like the broads I play kickball with on Friday nights

I didn't drink tonight.

It's my fault.

Won't happen again.

I don't wanna scapegoat Nola, the Phillies bats haven't done ish.

He gave up a couple of soft hits. It's not like he was getting mashed. Honestly though... it felt like he was slipping a bit. I never would have had him face the line up a third time. and the work the bullpen is doing shows it was a mistake.

But it doesn't matter if you lose 5-0 or 1-0. The Phillies still don't have a hit.

That’s a false equivalence. You gave up the hit that allowed the run to score. At the very least responsibilities should be split. It makes zero sense for the pitcher throwing a meatball up there gets zero stats charged to that run scoring.

Think about it. Bases loaded, say 2 outs. Reliever brought in to get out of the inning. First pitch. Throws a middle in fastball right in a sweet spot. Hitter rips a double that clears the bases. Reliever gets no stats charged to him other than a hit.

That doesn’t make logical sense.

yep.  This WS I learned that my wife had no idea when runners are and are not allowed to advance.

This. I didn't feel he would make it through their lineup unscathed for a 3rd time.

They need to show some life and get hits off these relievers.

I guess our logic is different.  Until a reliever puts a runner on that crosses the plate, they didn’t earn a run.

If you knock someone up and they hook up with someone while pregnant, it’s still your kid.

get a damn bat on the ball.  what the hell

Nothing even close to a hit

Big bottom of the 9th is gonna happen

First team to be no hit through 8 only to win it in the 9th.

Wow what a weird turn of events.

Didn't see a letdown coming tonight.

And most certainly didn't see the bats collectively going cold.

9th inning magic?

I look at it more like a bank employee takes money out of the safe and and puts it on a table. A guy walks in and takes and money and bolts out of the bank. And the bank employee gets charged with the left instead of the guy who took the money and ran.

That bank employee, their top one, is paid to not leave that money on that table

Tomorrow night has a completely different feel now

Still doesn’t make it theft though. Just makes it a mistake.
