Nola is one of the great clutch pitchers of out time. There’s no one I’d rather have in baseball in a big game than Nola. For my money he’s the best pitcher in the game. Gimme Nola 7 days a week in any spot.

If you could get in your DeLorean and pluck any pitcher you want to pitch Game 5 tomorrow…who would it be? I’ll take the obvious answer and say Doc.

I wouldn’t say afraid of him. I’m afraid of what the hell our psyche is tomorrow as we are 1-39 in our last 39 at bats.

We're due! 🤣

They didn’t get a hit. What are you talking about? That’s happened what, 3 times in WS history? They didn’t even get any balls to almost land. There was zero pressure put on any play.

And whose fault was that?  I believe the Astros had a significant contribution to that outcome.

Do a little homework and check out Cristian Javier's performances since September 1st

There’s a better chance of Bryson Stott hitting like Lou Gehrig than Nola being clutch.

He’d be my #2 after Doc.

Is this strictly Phillies or any pitcher? Bumgarner in his prime World Series edition for the giants. He has a 0.25 ERA in 5 World Series starts. He’s pitched 36 World Series innings given up 1 run. He’s also 4-0 and has a save

I said in the Phillies thread before the series Valdez actually has better stuff than verlander at this stage of his career and Javier really would be a no. 2 if not a 1 on most teams in the league. The Astros pitching depth is something the Phillies should thrive for with painter, McGarry and Abel

1968 Bob Gibson would be my choice, nosing out 1972 Steve Carlton

He’s always been clutch. You have an agenda against the guy that is blinding you of logic and reason. They wouldn’t be here without Nola coming up huge in the clutch.

This city and pitchers, they’re never appreciated until they’re gone. Hell, I remember with Hamels, the year after the dude won World Series MVP, people whined about him being "too Hollywood” because he wasn’t elite in the 2009 playoffs.

Same thing with Neris. He was great for the Phillies for years but people decided he wasn’t clutch because he happened to give up so,e hits in games they happened to be watching.

Be careful not appreciating greatness. You never know what you have sometimes until it’s gone, and pitchers like Nola don’t grow on trees. Best pitcher they’ve drafted since Hamels and they don’t draft ones that good often.

Yeah he’s been good. I’m not talking about him. I’m talking about how we couldn’t muster up anything even remotely close to landing a hit against him and several other pitchers. It was a terrible game after how hot they’ve been at home recently.

Good Night Irene.

It was a beautiful game.  You are looking through the glass darkly. Baseball isn't musterbashion.  It is group sex.

Even more beautiful because it followed last night's equally beautiful game.  Baseball being played at its finest level.  Thge irresistible force meeting the immovable object.  Fabulous entertainment ... and high anxiety.

Any time, any where, any team. I go Doc for obvious reasons beyond even his skills on the mound.

Nola = greatness

AS

Castellanos = selective

Nola is very talented, but he’ll never even approach greatness.  He doesn’t have the tummy for it

Nola will finish top 3-5 in Cy Young voting this year.

Castellanos’ biggest accomplishment this season is having a wife who buys fans beers.

Nola hater noted.

Good choices too. in the last 20 years I’m not sure I’ve seen a more dominant performance by a pitcher in the World Series than bumgarner in 2014. Pitched 21 innings gave up a run, had 17Ks, threw a complete game shutout and was 2-0 and had a 5 inning save on short rest. He’s fallen off a cliff since but i remember him just destroying the royals single-handedly in that series.

Actually, that was Hoskins’ wife, so Castellanos can’t even claim that.

Nola isn’t finishing in the top 5. Wheeler, fried, sandy, scherzer, urias, Kyle wright and gallen will all finish ahead of him.

second pretty sure that was Rhys’ wife who was buying beers for fans.

Sorry, Castellanos swung and missed on that too. That was Mrs. Hoskins.
