What I was trying to say is, if they traded him Tuesday, he would have had an $8 dead cap this year (and the rest next year).  They only have $2 million in space today.  So they would have to restructure another player to save an additional 6 million to remain compliant.  What DUM pointed out, they really don't have contracts to restructure to get there.  They don't have a single contract with more than $2.5 million in base salary.

The would have saved 687.5 K of his 1.16 million base.

They would have then accelerated 16.2 million in future signing bonus money to this year.

Even if they split it across this year and next, that still would have added 7.4 million to this years cap, and they only had 2 million in cap space.

Financially impossible to trade him.

His cap hit currently is $9,749,847. If they traded him Tuesday that number becomes $8,110,371 + (8/18 * $1,168,889) = $8,629,877

So they wouldn't need to do anything to remain compliant, it would actually open up space. The rest of his prorated bonus hits 2023.

It's post June 1st. When it is post June 1st and you are talking about accelerating pro-rated bonuses, only this years pro-rated bonus applies to this year and the rest accelerates in 2023.

There was the infamous reset of membership around 2003 where members had to reinstate. There were well over 10,000 members at the time.
