EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

You could be right.

One team I think everyone is wildly overrating is the Chargers. They had excellent QB play from Herbert and were still a completely mediocre team. They did not look like they were a Khalil Mack away from contending. In the final game of the season they lost their playoff chance to a team that got smacked around in the first round.

With how the other divisional teams have improved this offseason, Herbert could have another monster year and they end up as a 7-9 win team again

Oh boy.  Big weekend for sports.  Backyard Brawl tonight.  UT vs Ball State.  Some fantasy draft thing.  Then Sat full of good games.  Should be fun.

I will be doing the second half of mine from the golf course.  Playing in a best ball tourney for my wifes company in a couple of weeks, but apparently they don't take it very seriously, so I am playing with my wife and two other gals.   I imagine it will be a long day, my wife is not the best golfer, and I have never seen these gals swing a club before, tonight should be interesting seeing them try and hit the ball for the first time.

Correct.  Imagine being a pro QB getting so upset over something so stupid.  Oh wait a minute, people react like that in the blog every day.

It was a jerk move by Rome.  Everett didn't need to come on his show, but he did.  And Rome decided to be a scumbag to him rather than being thankful that he was on the show.   I know why Rome did it, because it made people aware of him.  I had no idea who he was before that.  Of course, all it ended up doing was making sure that anytime I saw him or heard him in the future, that I would tune out.   But, it probably did increase his viewership/listener base.

Haven't heard a thing from him since, and don't feel like I'm missing anything.

No, not at all.  But the Backyard Brawl is Pitt/WVU

I’m aware of the backyard brawl. Even though when I lived in Pittsburgh no one gave 2 poops about Pitt football

We just got a Wing Stop opened up here, I understand it's a US chain. Had it....wasn't that impressed.

My fave these days is BBQin my own wings

We have a place around the corner from me... Not Just Wings  (Mom and Pop store).   Fantastic wings.  Lots of sauce options to choose from.   Some are obviously better than others, but they are my go to for wings.   They also do a very nice job with a cheesesteak.  Nice place to go for game day food when pizza isn't going to get it done.

WingStop blows.

It's a Pizza Hut affiliate, I think.  Never tried it.  Can't stand Pizza Hut pizza, won't bother with their wings.

Very possible.  The Chargers' Achilles heel was definitely the defense.  I'd take Herbert over Wilson though.

Mack was not the only improvement.  They signed JC Jackson, considered the best FA corner on the market, drafted Zion Johnson, considered by some the top Guard in the draft, but 1 or 2 by everyone.  They improved at TE, and added some outstanding depth at DL and LB.  They have most definitely improved.

Their last 3 losses they gave up 34, 41 and 35 points  That should change this year.

In Toronto, pizza places and burger joints have exploded in the last 5 years. Very hipster driven I would say. But the good thing is there's so many good choices to choose from now. It makes all the big chain places somewhat irrelevant....though, there's still something nice about a greasy McDonald's cheeseburger when you need something quick and cheap.

The other side of it is because we are so insanely multicultural, I've been exposed to all different types of foods. Afghan food (kebabs) is some of the best stuff on earth.

What I gain living in the south:

BBQ, Seafood, Country Cooking.....

What I lose living in the south:

Hoagies, Cheesesteaks, Wings

I find that I really like my own smoked chicken wings almost as much as the restaurant stuff.

Cheesesteaks can be done at home anywhere, but the thing that's never going to be right elsewhere is the rolls.   Just can't duplicate those Italian rolls elsewhere.    And with the wrong bread, its just a steak and cheese sandwich, not a cheesesteak.

Kinda funny, a co worker of mine went to Seattle for the Motley Crue / Def Leppard show last night.

They posted on FB from there yesterday with the nothing beats a bag of Ds line.

No. WingStreet is in some pizza huts. WingStop is different.

I have a place here in Clayton that sells the amorosa rolls for $1 each.  I get them on occasion and make the hoagie or steak myself.  But there is something about getting it take out from a good deli.  Same can be said about wings.

And I make a lot of wings.  BBQ season is starting up for me soon and I'll go back to my baking powder dusted wings again.

Definitely.

The Amoroso rolls that they export just aren't the same as the best rolls you can get in town.  Too many preservatives to allow it to ship and not get rock hard in a day's time.

And $1 each! . Wow.  That's pricey.   I think the individual prices in some places has gone up to about $0.75 each now.  Buying direct from the bakery is always the best way to go though.  Freshest roll, best price.

And that means nothing to me.   I couldn't care less.   I'm sure Howard Stern is also in the Radio Hall of Fame, and is likely the richest radio personality in the world.   I've never tuned him to his show either, and I don't feel that I've also missed out on anything.

Yep, I have a 7 year old who loves wings and ribs. He looks like the JOKER with big sauce marks leaving the corner of his mouth.

Best thing I ever did was make him eat what I was eating. Hurts my wallet cause he likes ribs, steak, shrimp, lobster, etc but I'd rather be food poor then have to cook him chicken nuggets every night

Yup, we don't eat nuggets in our house, my son is 10 he's funny ever since he was little he hasn't liked meat if any kind.

We joke that he thinks he's a vegetarian because he was born in California.

All my kids love vegetables that I hated when I was a kid, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, they'll eat it all but getting my son to eat his one tiny bit of chicken is a war.

Wish my kid loved ribs and wings but hey more for me😁

I think they had 2 major problems last year: their defense getting overrun by heavy downfield offenses was one of them, JC Jackson is a monster addition, you’re right. I don’t know how much a rookie guard will change their win total in year 1, but their defensive depth can only help. Will it be enough to transform their unit into something that isn’t bottom third in the league? I think they were around 30th in scoring D in 2021. Yeah they improve there for sure, but how far can that take them? Are those additions as impactful as Chandler Jones, Davante Adams, and a coach who isn’t running the team like it’s 1998?

The other issue which I felt was really bizarre was their offensive identity. It seemed to change every week. One week they’d beat a team by 25, the next they couldnt get a first down to save their lives. Herbert wasn’t turning the ball over a lot so that wasn’t the problem, maybe it was the run game. But in the first 2 weeks they scored a combined 37 against WAS and DAL, then leveled out and went on a good run, then Dropped 6 on BAL, 20 on MIN, and 13 on Denver… then they padded their offense at the end of the season in those games you mentioned when they were scoring around 30 a game and still losing.

Some of that can be attributed to Herbert being young and inexperienced, but we’ll need to see them take that step to correct their consistency this year. That’s something Wilson, Mahomes, even Carr to an extent have over them at the moment. I remember last year every week listening to the weekend recap having no prediction of what the Chargers would have done. "Oh wow they creamed the Bengals.” "Oh wow they got blown out by the Broncos.”

Utah State safety, transferred from Miami, Gurvan Hall apparently had 6 sacks last week.

That's another thing I miss out on down here, is a diverse food scene.  Unless I want to go to Charlotte.  We went to some Pho noodle joint in Raleigh last fall.  The dumplings were great but holy f did they like anise in their noodles.

Yeah you really have to go to downtown Raleigh for the diversity. Theres some good sushi places there and North Hills. Tupelo Honey has one of the best chicken sandwiches Ive ever had. Great mexican food. The hibachi lacks but there is a really good place in Cary. We're definitely good on the BBQ like you said, and I still have not found a good cheesesteak place in all my years of searching lol.

Just looked at the box score and yes he did.  But going from a powerhouse like Miami to Utah State, you should dominate.
