Never got why anyone had heartbreak over sports anyway. The end "result" is a subjective decision on a winner and a loser, you don't necessarily have to agree with it. Especially when throughout the course of games and series there are tons of calls that you may disagree with. If you believe their official ruling is law, then ok, but you don't have to. I've enjoyed sports a lot more when I changed my outlook. To me being a champion is a mentality, not a result.

For example, if the Eagles get to the Super Bowl this year, and they lead 30-28 with 10 seconds left, the other team kicks a field goal at the buzzer and it misses wide right but for whatever dumb reason the officials raise their arms and say field goal good. If you think that makes the Eagles less of a champion because of an "official decision" then I think you've lost sight on what makes someone a champion. You can't leave this stuff up to the subjective rulings of others that add up throughout the course of games.

Otherwise, you will never be happy that way. Only one team technically wins every year, you will be miserable almost every time every year.

Or don't. You do you. But it's made me enjoy sports way more this way.

How is it subjective?

The last time we got this from the Phillies, the Eagles had a broken leg Cunningham and were on the way down from 4-0 to 8-8

2009 was nothing like this since we had just won the year before.

I will take 2022 with the Eagles at 8-0 and Carter Hart at 6-0-2 on a 6-3-2 Flyers team playing way better than expected.

Does "I’m mad because the team I liked didn’t win” really need to be explained? I’m not mad at the team or the players, I’m mad about the outcome of the series. I’m mad they played in a janky ballpark with weird dimensions that robbed the Phillies of home runs while awarding the Astros with home runs. I’m mad because they had a real opportunity to win it all after 11 years of not even being in the playoffs, and it slipped through their fingers.

Is fan not short for fanatic? Anger is absolutely natural not even an hour after a bad outcome.

Strikes are subjective. If a ball is fair or foul is subjective if it's close enough. If a player swung his bat on a hold up swing is subjective. Penalties are subjective. What constitutes when something is a catch is subjective. What constitutes fouls or not fouls in the NBA is subjective. Sports is full of subjectivity in every game and in every sport. And you're at the mercy of a bunch of hired heads to make that decision for you, unless you break free from those constraints, because you don't have to agree with them.

And then you have cheating, which is a whole other matter entirely. I always declare anyone who's cheated no matter how small invalidated. And even if the "official" ruling is their championship "still counts" to me it wouldn't and that's all that matters. If I were a Dodgers fan, I would feel absolutely elated that my team won a World Series when the Astros cheating scandal came out, because I'd know despite "MLB's ruling" my team was the champion. Because MLB is not god, and their decision is subjective on whether or not a championship should still count despite one of the worst cheating scandals ever. They decided yes. It was a matter of pure opinion. Many disagree. Their decision is not necessarily better than anyone else's. Unless you allow it to be by following along.

Homer Simpson

Papi asked Kate Upton the Giselle question. That was funny.

I think those philosophers would say let people feel what they feel right now.

Venting can be a form of therapy even if its not your choice.

This is not the place for anyone who is going to be bothered by a few angry people. Give it a few days.

Okay so based off what you know about Spygate and what happened with its coverup, you think the Eagles are champions in 2004?

That description doesn't come across as mad.  Mad has an out of control connotation to it.  You don't sound out of control at all.

One can be in control and consumed by madness at the same time. Difficult to do, but one can do it.

Yep. And the Phillies in 2009 when A Rod and Cano got caught cheating after since they played a big role in that series and they were juicing.

I have two little nephews and already have been teaching them that they were champions along with the 2008 Phils and 2017 Eagles. 😁

Consumed is an interesting choice of words.  Once something is consumed it is gone.  Are you really going to let your anger eat you up?

I'm only talking about a short period of time. It eventually fades.

I'll bite.

One guy lied about videotaping in 2001 and quickly recanted when pressed for more information and corroboration.

Then a bunch of crybaby Eagles fans pretended they also did something in 2004 that they did not even do in 2001.

If anyone is still holding onto that 18 years later they have issues.

McNabb hit a wide open Bruschi.

McNabb threw an end zone pick, It got called back, and then he threw another one.

Belichick's simple and basic game plan was to crowd the line with 5 up front and let McNabb beat himself which he did.

The Eagles were a -3 in turnovers and lost by 3. There was no conspiracy.

Vent all you want about tonight. Don't hold on to delusions for 18 years after the Eagles beat the Patriots 5 years ago.

I appreciate what the Phillies did during this run to even get to where they were. Winning two games against the Astros, I think it’s probably better than the most teams in the playoffs could have done. I joked on the Phillies thread when the Astros were playing the Yankees that if DraftKings gave me an over/under of 2.5 I would take the under on the Astros losing Less than three games the entire postseason. That team was absolutely loaded in their bullpen, and they had pitching depth. I actually thought the Astros hitting wasn’t all that great the last two games either (really game 5 it was as bad as the Phillies but was helped by hoskins fielding) but just enough to get the wins.

that said I’ve watched about 145 of the Phillies regular season games and the entire postseason, the World Series was really a microcosm of their season. At times they would look real good and they wouldnt give up. They’d fight to find themselves in a position to win the game. And then other times their starting pitching just completely disappeared on. There were times this year where we got 18 runs only to have the next day score 1 and the next week to go into a giant slump. The bullpen was actually better than it had been all year but in the end it just wasn’t good enough. That’s who they’ve been all year.

The fact that in the playoffs that somehow someway they were able to fix most of these issues and the bullpen for the three previous series until this one is pretty remarkable. Because they were really inconsistent hitting for large stretches of the year. I believe they were close to the top of the league in games they got shutout. the bullpen heading into the playoffs looked like dumpster fire, and even the starters at times this year would implode for a week or two.  If you would’ve told me after they got swept by the Cubs in September that they would’ve got into a World Series and within two games of winning the World Series I would’ve said you’re crazy.

that said, I’m not sure they’re able to replicate this. Harper needs Tj surgery and since we played into November might be until May when we see him back. i think they should add a big-time bat in replacing segura. Moreover I think they need to get another front line starter so that if you get to the playoffs and Nola isn’t what we need him to be, you still have another guy with wheeler and Ranger Suarez and they can still get the job done. To me the biggest difference between the Phillies and the Astros starters is even if one or two guys didn’t have their best stuff and they lost the game, they had two more starters behind them that they knew were so good that they can make up for that. The Phillies don’t have that. they have Ranger Suarez and that’s pretty much it. So you are having a disadvantage trying to beat an verlander twice with syndergaard starting.

Also the pen needs more than dominguez and Alvarado. sucks knebel got hurt. This is a series he looms large. However guys like familia and hand aren’t good enough. We have to do better than that I’m actually excited for brogdon cause it looks like he figure it out and he has the stuff to be effective. It was always mental for him. You could see as the series went on both dominguez and Alvarado began being more shaky and giving up more hits and walks. If we had a better pen all year those guys might have held up better or not been over used. Add on I think if they get a bat, like turner, you can change the lineup a little bit. Also got to hope Castellanos comes back and is closer to what he looked in Cincinnati

Yes! State championship next week for my boy!

Harper isn't getting Tommy John. Not sure where you got that from.

Jayson stark who was on 975 during the season who said he would and eventually claimed he was told he was gonna have to have it. So unless your "sources” know more than stark that’s where i got it.

One thing I learned about baseball a long time ago.  They're all trying to cheat.  It's practically woven into the fabric of the game at this point.
