Visited DC a couple of years ago and my friend suggested I give it a shot.

I have no idea what garbage can they got it out of — or how long it was sitting there in the hot sun — but it was disgusting.

If it wasn't Habbersett, it wasn't the right stuff.

DC doesn't know scrapple.

The only brand to buy.  Thank God Hatfield had the good sense when they took over Habbersett to keep the recipe the same.  What I can't figure out is why they still bother to make their own.  Just make more Habbersett.

Nahnahnahnah I don't hear what your saying and don't care.  It is f'n delicious.  When I was in college my grandmother used to cook it for me every Sunday am.  She always had it perfectly crispy on the outside.

Your grandmother is a smart lady.   Crispy outside is the only way.  Super thin slices pan fried to crispy.   Key is slow long cooking for the perfect crunch on the outside.

I don’t have any scrapple, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got some leftover paint, sandpaper, and spackle in my basement.  I could probably mix that up with some dirt outside and make scrapple to celebrate today.

Don't yuck someone else's yum.

That is the way it should be cooked, and it does taste good for those who don’t know. I would recommend it to anyone with any threshold for mystery meats.

It tastes good for those who do know as well.  Don't let knowing what something is rob you of the experience of enjoying food.  If food tastes good to you, then enjoy it.  Don't let anything ruin that experience for you.  And if it doesn't taste good to you, then it doesn't.  And don't let others' opinions about the food change your preferences.

I would recommend scrapple (Habbersett) to anyone who enjoys breakfast meats.  They don't have to be 'adventurous'.   I'd add that pork hearts and pork livers actually provide health benefits that pork 'meat' doesn't.  In other words, scrapple is a much healthier breakfast meat alternative to bacon or sausage.  Lower fat content, lower cholesterol, and higher in B vitamins, iron, folate and a few other things.  I've even read that pork hearts are fairly high in CoQ10 and therefore, might be a more heart healthy option than bacon or sausage.   It is not 'healthy', but by comparison, I believe it is a better choice for the health conscious consumer.

I've never understood the concept of boneless wings, nor people that would buy them.  Just buy nuggets or a chicken burger instead - hardly rocket science and I'd guess the boneless wings are bits of the chicken they can't use elsewhere.

boneless wings arent bits of chicken that couldnt be used. They are usually whole chunks of breast meat. Not actually wing meat at all.

A lot of times, the boneless wings are just cubed up pieces of chicken breast.

Really? So why just not have nuggets with sauce?  A nicer thing too

Makes sense.  It's a quite a marketing thing to do though

Because 'eating chicken wings' is a thing now.  So, to be trendy, boneless wings are what they are called and they are covered in whatever wing sauce you would normally use... be it buffalo, thai chili, garlic parm, whatever...

Chicken nuggets is so 1980s, and its 'kids food'.  By comparison, 'boneless chicken wings' are for grown ups.   So, when you go to the bar and order a beer and wings... you can get a beer and 'boneless wings' and still feel like a grown up.  If you order a beer and nuggets, they'd likely card you and give you the order in a Happy Meal box.

100% marketing.

Good morning 🌞

I get boneless 100% of the time. I prefer breast meat. It doesnt have as many vessels running through it, and no cartilage at the ends. Its just meat. Eating that other stuff is gross. I also dont enjoy eating messy foods. Boneless wings can be held with a fork.

Kinda funny to infantilize the guy with the fork and not the one with buffalo sauce all over his hands.

Jason isn't wrong though.  Ordering the breast nuggets isn't a bad thing, but calling them 'wings' is just 100% marketing and its completely inaccurate.  Wings are 'white meat'.  Breasts are 'white meat'.  And honestly, the boneless ones would likely be slightly 'healthier'.   BUT... they also don't have the skin on as the actual wings do, so the eating experience is also completely different.  Any 'crunch' that exists with the boneless 'wing' exists because of the breading put on it.  And personally, I don't like breaded chicken wings.

Different food for different folks, I guess.  But, what it comes down to is taste and reusing the same sauces on both.  Personally, I don't dislike boneless wings, but calling them wings is the incorrect term.  Breast nuggets is more accurate.   And I'd still go with the wings over the breast nuggets more often than the other way.  Call me a cave man, but there's something viscerally satisfying about eating meat directly off the bone.

Well now that she has passed I guess I can give away her secret.  She would slice it thin and dip both sides in flour before frying it low and slow.  There was no better cure to my hangover than her scrapple and eggs.

I'll buy nuggets in the Super Market along with wing sauce and ranch dressing - don't care for bleu cheese. No that's not real wings but it also doesn't involve the preparation and deep fat frying. Plus the price of wings has been nuts, haven't checked recently.

$3.49/lb normally around me.

I just buy whole chickens for about $1.19/lb and break them down myself.  Boneless skinless breasts, thighs, drumsticks, and wings... then use the remaining carcass for making stock for soups.   And I get a dog treat included for free with the giblets!   The wings get frozen separately for when I want them.  Same with the other parts.  Just store each different part separately until time to make whatever I want with the various parts.   The dark parts are great for smoking and I enjoy them much more that way than the boneless chicken breasts my wife loves.   Costs me less than 1/2 of what it would to buy the parts individually in large packs... and I get extra bonuses from it.   And honestly, it's actually quite relaxing to put some music on in the kitchen, break out the cutting boards and break down some chickens.   I buy them 3 at a time and do them all at once.   Takes a little less than an hour to break down 3 birds and pack them away.

Growing up in the upper midwest there was something called knipp, we  pronounced ka-nip. It's pretty similar to scrapple except it wasn't formed, it was ground loose trimmings, oftentimes from the head and mixed with steel cut oats. I don't remember if there was anything added besides steel cut oats or not. Freeze then thaw when wanted and serve with syrup.

Anyone have any miracle tonics or remedies to shake a head cold in 48 hours? I have a gig Friday night that could be crucial to helping our band take the next step.

Zinc (ingredient in Coldeze) and vitamins, C, B6, B12 and D, preferably through natural sources.  Avoid antihistamines as they hide the symptoms rather than cure them.  Consider testing for Covid and flu, as neither would help your career if you spread those.

Not entirely.  As you say, some boneless wings are cubed chicken breast. Some are true nuggets, which is compressed rib meat, basically the part of the chicken that is left over from boneless (and cartilage free) chicken breasts and tenders.

Literally stealing money from the fans.

So no BBQ ribs or chicken for you.

Who we rooting for tonight?  Falcons to stay a game up on New Orleans or Panthers to tie NO in wins... Oh the dilemma for tonight
