Maybe I’ll end up getting suspended for this, but I’m not sure I understand the moderator situation here. This board is no longer officially connected to the Eagles orginization or the NFL (and maybe I’m wrong about this?).

Why is there even a need for moderators if that’s the case? Sure maybe one or two to kind of keep things in line, delete the odd out there post…but it seems like we have a cabal of unknown mods that carried over from the old board. Any other board I’ve been on, the mods are known posters and don’t hide behind a wall of anonymity, free to hand out suspensions and bannings at their whim.

It all seems very dystopian to me is all. And now, for even making this post there’s a not insignificant chance I get suspended. It’s gross

you are going down like a sweet nothing LaFleur!

I was looking through the current NFL stats (through week nine) the other day and was pleased to learn of the following:

The Eagles rank FIRST in the NFL in fewest offensive turnovers per game (0.4)

The Eagles rank FIRST in the NFL in most defensive turnovers per game (2.3)

The Eagles rank FIRST in the NFC in highest yards per pass attempt (7.4) -- Miami is first in the league at 7.8

The Eagles rank FIRST in the NFC in fewest yards allowed defensively per pass attempt (net yards divided by attempts plus sacks) (4.5) -- Denver ranks first at 4.3.

The Eagles rank SECOND in the NFC in yards per completion on offense (11.8) -- San Francisco is ahead of them at 11.9.

The Eagles rank SECOND IN THE NFL in yards per completion allowed defensively (8.3) -- Denver ranks first overall at 7.4.

The Eagles rank SECOND in the NFC in completion percentage allowed defensively (58%) -- the Giants rank first in the NFC

The Eagles rank FIRST in the NFC in fewest defensive yards allowed per play (4.7) -- Denver ranks first.

The Eagles rank SECOND in the NFC in yards per play differential (1.1) -- San Francisco ranks first.

What we see here is that the Eagles are ranking VERY highly in both offensive AND defensive statistics. This is rare. Usually a top tier team is great at one and so-so in the other. This is almost historically good. Yeah, it's only halfway through the season but eight games is a pretty good sample.

We're a good team.

Because certain folks don't really understand why this place exists or lack the social skills to abide by the inherent norms.

Only concern i really have is our tackling/run defense. Brandon graham discussed it on WIP. He’s right they need to be better cause there’s far too many missed tackles and the run defense at 27th on DVOA isn’t good. It’s an area a team like a 49ers and Dallas earlier this year took advantage of to control the clock and limit the offensive possessions we get.

Is it hard to imagine a scenario where a poster who had been warned or previously suspended finds out the Moderator's real username and begins to harass him all over the message board?

I mean have you been surprised by anyone who has gotten banned?

I am no lawyer, but my interpretation of this as a consumer protection lawsuit is that this has to do with the umbrella of deceptive business practices.

I wish they'd hand out suspensions for some of the posters in the gameday thread who call for Gannon to be fired because the defense allowed a couple 1st downs on a drive.

I’m watching a mic’d up against Houston

The reactions in the gameday thread are incredible.

It really doesn't bother me because I don't take this place seriously but do you really think they are gonna change when their suspension is up?

I think you’d be surprised to know how many know the identities of the mods. And if a poster did what you suggest would happen, then a resultant suspension/ban could certainly be warranted.

You're telling me.  It really is incredible the amount of panic in there.

Was going thru it last game because I couldn't watch it live and you'd think we were losing 45-0.

I've said this over and over again.  YOU GUYS wanted the moderation.

We didn't even put up rules at first.  Then everyone wanted to report each other and ask for rules about what you could and couldn't do.  So I put up guidelines not even rules.  99% of the reported posts come from this blog only.  Everyone else has no issues. You guys complained, reported each other and wanted moderation so now you're getting it.

As for being anonymous, mods want to be able to post freely as a community member without being harassed.  It happens to VA despite us saying don't go to him about mod stuff.  "at their whim" is a funny one.  We don't want to suspend or ban anyone and we let A LOT go.   If we don't give warnings, half of you complain we're not enforcing the rules.  If we do give warnings, the other half complain we're too strict.  Can't make everyone happy.

Social media sites have moderation rules too.  It's not "dystopian" it's following the terms of service for a site.  Go to reddit, Facebook or elsewhere and try to post things against the rules and see what happens.

What isn't transparent?  There are pinned guidelines.  I spend time writing posts to you all in here to explain even though I could just warn/suspend and not bother. I write pm's to people who report posts or who get reported, to give them gentle reminders or warnings without assigning warning points - that they then ignore and break the rules anyway so then they get warning points.  I tell you all to self-moderate and just ignore people if you don't like them or use another topic, then you report each other and ask for people to be suspended and removed because you don't like how they're ruining the blog.

That’s not my point at all though

Do you think there's a rule that could be posted that would make it clear?

Here are the purported guidelines:

Since the new EMB was created, many have wondered what we can "get away with" now that we're not associated with the official Eagles site.  We've also had questions about etiquette, rules, how to handle trolls or annoying posters, the report function, etc.  So we want to address some guidelines.

We are all thankful to have a new home here; we want to continue a strong community with good ongoing discussions.  Our goal was to run things just like the old EMB as much as possible.  Below is a list of guidelines, not necessarily rules.  The moderating team may make subjective calls.  There also may be history with certain posters so while it seems to you someone was suspended for something minor, or someone else did something similar in another forum you may not know the history.  We also allowed some posters here who were banned from the old EMB with the understanding they’d be on a short leash.

  1. Use existing topics instead of creating duplicates.  Use the appropriate forum.  There are 2 long ongoing topics where you can talk anything Eagles:  the TATE EMB Blog and the 411 Ongoing News Discussion.  If you just want to vent or be crazy start it in Rant & Rave.
  2. Politics belong in CVON; however there are sports-related political topics such as COVID affecting teams, national anthem or sports teams discussing racial justice.  Use your judgment and don't get off topic.
  3. Do not harass other posters or engage in personal attacks.  If someone replies that you've gone too far, back off or they may report you.
  4. If someone is bothering you: either don't reply, put them on ignore or tell them to stop.  If it continues, report them.  If you put someone on ignore, do not talk about them or instigate.  If you are put on ignore, do not ask others to quote your posts specifically so that person will see your post.  However, naturally you might see posts from someone you have on ignore from normal quoting.
  5. When you report a post, we’ll review it and take action if necessary.  Sometimes reports do not warrant any action and you may not hear a response.  Trust that we are reviewing them and keeping an eye on repeat offenders.  Overuse of the report function may result in action toward YOU: it’s the internet you also need to have thick skin.
  6. Enter What’s Up (WU) and Conflicting Views and Other News (CVON) at your own risk.  WU is like a bar with people joking around, CVON is going to be divisive and heated at times and you have to be able to stand the heat or get out of the kitchen.  But if things go too far, follow the advice above and report if needed.
  7. Do not contact VABeach_Eagle about warnings or suspensions, he doesn't handle those he handles the technology.  He doesn’t handle any moderation (warnings, suspensions, etc).  Contact a mod if you have a question.  Posting in public attacking the mods: not a good idea, send a pm if you have a legit question.  Post your technical questions in the pinned bug thread in TATE.
  8. Surprise!  We’ve relaxed the filters to allow a couple minor curse words, we’ll let you have fun figuring out which ones.
  9. Pictures should not have nudity or profanity (other than what’s allowed by the filters).

As far as I can gather, he violated 3 and 7.  I think 1 and 2 are currently conflicting rules given the current title of the blog.  The reality is that no one is getting banned without a warning and ample opportunity to stop behaving the way they behaved to get banned. It's not hard.  I don't think the rules are confusing or so prone to subjective interpretation that anyone that's on Moderator6's bad side is subject to banning.

No, they are going to create their own EMB with blackjack, personal attacks and hookers.

The lack of transparency is in the mods being a faceless entity. If you dare whisper their true identity, that’s a banning
