Yeah, they can, because the Bills have also been flimsy at times.

I guess Minnesota just doesn’t really concern me much either way.

Hate so say it, but Dallas is my biggest concern.

Im not too concerned with facing either of them. i just want breathing room in the race for top seed.

Pardon my ignorance, but who are the two guys with Hurts?

Eagles 30

Washington 13

Bonus: if the Eagles win Hurts gets all the credit, but if they lose he isn’t blamed at all.

Quinn with 2 sacks

One thing about CGJ and his tackling is that the entire defense has been bad at tackling this year.  I really think they need to revisit their TC live periods.  Tackling to the ground is important.  Luckily, it hasn't been a factor yet.  The Eagles have been searching for solid safeties for some time now and they finally have what appears to be a very solid duo on CGJ and Epps.  Those are the first two guys I'm trying to lock up.  I think he's also just scratching the surface as to how good he can be as a safety.  I know there are going to be some tough calls with the FA on defense.

Epps and CGJ are my priority.

Bradberry is going to get paid and while I'd love to see it here, I just don't know.

White and Edwards I thought one of the two come back.  Now I'm not sure if both walk.  Out of LB, S, CB I think LB is the least likely position they give a larger contract to.  Maybe I'm overvaluing both players but I'm assuming both will want increases in their next contract.  The team was really really high on Davion Taylor and he got caught up in the numbers game this year.  No word on how he looks on the PS but you have to think he's a cheap, in house option they can consider.  Davion Taylor and Nakobe Dean could very well be the LB next year.

I think they lock up Edwards. I feel like White will want more and want to test out FA again.

Also, the Taylor experiment is dead.

CGJ is very much an incomplete evaluation. He missed all of training camp and pre-season. He's played 8 games in a very different scheme than what he played in New Orleans AND he changed positions.

There's a real chance he's much better in the 2nd half of the season.

The problem we all face is that having an 8-0 team doesn't leave us with much to complain about ... and the Blog is largely driven by complaints rather than kudos.

Reminds me a little of the end of The Princess Bride, when Inigo Montoya says that he doesn't know what to do with the rest of his life. Now that he has achieved his dream, he is lost. That's kinda what's at play here. Everyone (well, not all) just lives to complain all the time, but they're lost because the team is actually undefeated. I guess everything will be okay for them once the Eagles hit their first one-game losing streak.

White has not flashed much this year. Think he walks in FA.

Interested to see Dean get more snaps.

Could the Eagles be in play for a 1st RD LB in a trade down scenario?

Players like Sewell and Simpson could easily be BPA in the mid 1st RD.

I'd like to think so but I'm trying to think how the Eagles think.  Rarely in recent years do they put resources in to LB.  Hell, I thought Kyzir White on a $3 million contract was splurging for them.  He's been steady. He flashed early in the season and has just been a steady player since.

They brought back TJ Edwards on a 1-year $2 million contract.  He's the green dot and that has to carry some weight.  Maybe they look at the contract they gave White for 2022 as their starting point for what they give Edwards to come back?

Both need to be re-signed.  Dean and Taylor are both under contract....not 100% about Taylor since he was cut then brought back.  Either way, Taylor is getting another year of experience under his belt and could be brought back at the fraction of the cost of White or Edwards.

White flashed early on in the season but has definitely just become a quiet contributor to the defense as of late.  You don't hear his name much but I also don't think he's getting abused out there.  Just a piece of the defense for the time being.

I don’t think that’s true either. The interceptions obviously make it look like he’s playing at his highest level, but he has some regular safety plays that he needs to start doing more regularly. I’m impressed that he’s taking advantage of tipped passes or poorly thrown passes because the QB is hit/under pressure. I want to see him make good coverage plays. I want to see better angles. I want to see improved tackling.

I think those are all things that can or should get better with more time at the position and in our scheme.

I don't disagree with any of this. He can get better in a lot of areas. But I mean his value. My main point of concern is his agent is going to be pointing at the impact plays when it comes to his next contract. I think he's making more of an impact than he did in NO, so what happens when someone pays for that, the INT's drop, and the possibility he only makes minimal growth or is just ordinary everywhere else? His market value is going to be an all time high with just the 5 INT's this year as is. I just think it's more of a gamble to pay someone based on that and just hope they improve everything else. Obviously if he does improve in the other areas on the back half of the schedule it changes the equation and lessens the gamble. But based on everything up to this point, I wouldn't want to be making that gamble.

Here's my unpopular opinion.

CJGJ is the perfect one and done and the Eagles should thank him while holding the door open for him to walk.

First, the compensation given to acquire him is perfectly fine for a one year rental. And while you can't always rely on a comp pick, I think it's possible the Eagles could recoup the 5th given up for him. It's possible if he gets the equivalent of the Marcus Williams deal ($14M APY, currently 9th among Safety salaries) he would net a 4th round comp pick. Again, cant rely on it, but the scenario is there where the Eagles traded away essentially nothing for him.

Second, I think he's entering the territory that Trevon Diggs was in last year. The interceptions are nice, highlight plays, but they are overrating the overall play of the person. This is not to say he's playing horribly, but there are flaws (run defense) that are getting brushed under the rug. Interceptions, in my opinion, also will fluctuate wildly. It's like being on a heater playing Blackjack. He's had 5 interceptions his whole career entering the year (46 games) and already has 5 interceptions this year (8 games). I fully expect that he will regress in this area in the future.

Third, we all know he's a bit of headcase. He's in a contract year so I think he's playing nice for the time being. Also, they are 8-0, which helps. If he's not getting his INT's and the team is losing, I think more of his ugly side will rear it's head. I also think it's interesting that Bo Wulf said he was an ass the first week he was here, but has gotten better.

TL/DR: This is the absolute peak of CJGJ as a person and player. We know he wants to get paid because he was causing problems in NO over getting paid and wanted to switch to S from Nickel CB to get paid. So if you want to sign him, it's probably going to be at a premium. And I don't think he will be worth it in the long run.

I enjoy reading well-constructed Eagles-related commentary. We used to have a lot more of that in here. Kudos for making the effort.

I kind of agree with you, at least with regard to his run defense. He's pretty inconsistent in that regard.

Overshown is a perfect LB for todays game, and the way the eagles want to play defense. One can walk. Keep the other and draft overshown. Or go with Dean/Overshown next year.

In the Eagles case, LB = DE. They do need an edge rusher (Barnett has been a let down pick). Is there anyone in the draft worthy of top ten pick at DE?
