EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

I'd like to think so but I'm trying to think how the Eagles think.  Rarely in recent years do they put resources in to LB.  Hell, I thought Kyzir White on a $3 million contract was splurging for them.  He's been steady. He flashed early in the season and has just been a steady player since.

They brought back TJ Edwards on a 1-year $2 million contract.  He's the green dot and that has to carry some weight.  Maybe they look at the contract they gave White for 2022 as their starting point for what they give Edwards to come back?

Both need to be re-signed.  Dean and Taylor are both under contract....not 100% about Taylor since he was cut then brought back.  Either way, Taylor is getting another year of experience under his belt and could be brought back at the fraction of the cost of White or Edwards.

LB I feel the most confident in predicting they only bring one guy back. I don't think they will want to block Dean from playing time, whether wrong or right.

Taylor would have to get a futures contract if they want to bring him to camp. His current deal expires at the end of the season since he's on the PS. Just feels like they kinda gave up on trying to develop him and now he's slumming it on the PS. They might bring him back next year, but he'd be a long shot IMO to make the team.

Overshown is a perfect LB for todays game, and the way the eagles want to play defense. One can walk. Keep the other and draft overshown. Or go with Dean/Overshown next year.

I like Overshown too. His size, 6'4'' 250, and speed would pair nicely here with Dean or Edwards. Think he could be had in RD2 also with a small trade up.

In the Eagles case, LB = DE. They do need an edge rusher (Barnett has been a let down pick). Is there anyone in the draft worthy of top ten pick at DE?

Anderson, Murphy, and maybe Ojulari

FTX went bankrupt, their CEO resigned. I wonder about the athletes that decided to take salary in crypto.  Do you suppose that their agents put in provisions so they could opt back to dollars?  Aaron Rodgers took part of his new contract in crypto.  Trevor Lawrence took his entire signing bonus in crypto.  Saquon Barkley took all of his endorsements in crypto.  OBJ took part of his contract in crypto.  At one point, Brady was pushing crypto but I think that was just an endorsement deal.  Can you imagine having a disgruntled player fretting pay because half of their bonus money disappeared with the crypto collapse?  As far as I can recall, I am not aware that any Eagles took part of their contract in crypto.  But I almost wonder if the under performance this year of some of the athletes that went crypto is being impacted by their concern over their losses.  (Look how an amiable divorce impacted Brady.). Do those of you that parlay consider outside impacts to athletes?

It's hard to know. I would think there would be a stop payment option as the salary has to have a dollar value in order for there to be a cap calculation.  Everyone has things going on in their lives, not just football players that impact them.

Seems like they will be without Maddox on Monday

I wonder if that means CJGJ in the slot?

I wish there was an update of sorts from Spadaro or someone on the inside on how PS players look.

I'd love to know if Auden Tate has shown anything other than being the biggest WR in the room.

Has Devon Allen progressed at all or he still just all speed?

Thanks for that, Matt.

Great article. Football!!!

Used to be a time when our own would do that research and post up it in here...remember when?

Hurts is evolving using these concepts, put forth by coaches game-planning for down and distance, success rate and post-snap reads. His decision making is spot on but for a couple mis-reads here and there or an End Crashing unexpectedly. Who's perfect?

Many of us said to give this guy a chance to grow before shoving him onto the trash heap and he's showing the aptitude to do so. Surely in control of the Offense. D coordinators are worried about defending this guy and our O in general.

I don't know where I stand on the whole "Extend him now" debate, but that's why Howie gets paid. Right now, he's showing most everything you want in a QB1. Smart with the ball, executing the plays as designed, going through his progressions because he has time, mostly, reading the D better...making the downfield throws as needed, in other words, growing.

Folks should just remember to include Last Year vs This Year in evaluating his progress.

He wants to win, so do we.

8-0...what a ride so far...:Eagle_smiley:

Wait to see how he does in the playoffs with this team. Here's to hoping he's not like Lamar that does great in the regular season and meh in the playoffs

I don't think there's an NFC team we can't beat

I don't use it actively, but I have definitely found value in the reporting function of the board. I firmly believe that the "I had sex with your mother" comments (and their ilk) have no place in a respectful community, and my most recent reporting event was of @olsilverhair for his (at that time) latest example of his consistent use of that form of mindless, useless posting.  I doubt anything came of my reporting effort, but it definitely made sense to me at the time, and still makes sense to me now.

Here's my unpopular opinion.

CJGJ is the perfect one and done and the Eagles should thank him while holding the door open for him to walk.

First, the compensation given to acquire him is perfectly fine for a one year rental. And while you can't always rely on a comp pick, I think it's possible the Eagles could recoup the 5th given up for him. It's possible if he gets the equivalent of the Marcus Williams deal ($14M APY, currently 9th among Safety salaries) he would net a 4th round comp pick. Again, cant rely on it, but the scenario is there where the Eagles traded away essentially nothing for him.

Second, I think he's entering the territory that Trevon Diggs was in last year. The interceptions are nice, highlight plays, but they are overrating the overall play of the person. This is not to say he's playing horribly, but there are flaws (run defense) that are getting brushed under the rug. Interceptions, in my opinion, also will fluctuate wildly. It's like being on a heater playing Blackjack. He's had 5 interceptions his whole career entering the year (46 games) and already has 5 interceptions this year (8 games). I fully expect that he will regress in this area in the future.

Third, we all know he's a bit of headcase. He's in a contract year so I think he's playing nice for the time being. Also, they are 8-0, which helps. If he's not getting his INT's and the team is losing, I think more of his ugly side will rear it's head. I also think it's interesting that Bo Wulf said he was an ass the first week he was here, but has gotten better.

TL/DR: This is the absolute peak of CJGJ as a person and player. We know he wants to get paid because he was causing problems in NO over getting paid and wanted to switch to S from Nickel CB to get paid. So if you want to sign him, it's probably going to be at a premium. And I don't think he will be worth it in the long run.

Meh - You can nitpick aspects of his play but he's played well. There is some flukiness to the INTs but he's playing in a position that lets him make more plays on the ball and he's been in position to do that routinely.   It's been awhile since the Eagles have had good secondary play.  They were willing to pay big money to Marcus Williams.  Yes, he may have been a bit of a headcase for a week but he's owned it. He may want to stay with the Eagles.  I have no problems if they pay him to stay.

I think if they let him walk, it's because his expectations aren't in line with his play.  On the other hand, a Williams like deal for him may seem like a steal if he is able to continue to be a ballhawk over the next 3 to 4 seasons.

I know this is probably been discussed To the point of nausea But I’ve been away from the boards for a while and I was just wondering how does the board now feel about Jalen Hurts?

Cause for me Im still on the fence I think Shane Steichen Has done a hell of a job schematically playing to Jalen hurts strengths But Is this RPO Offense going to be able to sustain itself in the long run?

I’m mostly trying to live in the here and now. I’m enjoying how well he’s playing, and he is making football a lot of fun to watch. I still have long term reservations, especially since this team may not be as overall strong as it is now as guys leave to get paid elsewhere, but that’s a worry for later. Right now, I want Hurts to just keep it going.

One thing about CGJ and his tackling is that the entire defense has been bad at tackling this year.  I really think they need to revisit their TC live periods.  Tackling to the ground is important.  Luckily, it hasn't been a factor yet.  The Eagles have been searching for solid safeties for some time now and they finally have what appears to be a very solid duo on CGJ and Epps.  Those are the first two guys I'm trying to lock up.  I think he's also just scratching the surface as to how good he can be as a safety.  I know there are going to be some tough calls with the FA on defense.

Epps and CGJ are my priority.

Bradberry is going to get paid and while I'd love to see it here, I just don't know.

White and Edwards I thought one of the two come back.  Now I'm not sure if both walk.  Out of LB, S, CB I think LB is the least likely position they give a larger contract to.  Maybe I'm overvaluing both players but I'm assuming both will want increases in their next contract.  The team was really really high on Davion Taylor and he got caught up in the numbers game this year.  No word on how he looks on the PS but you have to think he's a cheap, in house option they can consider.  Davion Taylor and Nakobe Dean could very well be the LB next year.

I would like them to keep White over Edwards. While Edwards has played well at times, White has much better coverage skills.  They both struggle getting off of blocks.  Edwards plays better against the run but it's not like he's great.  I would like to see them give Dean a chance.  I don't see Taylor being on the team next year unless he all of the sudden got instincts.

Feel like if they just got rid of the "report this post" feature there wouldnt be a problem for the mods. Too many sensitive people spamming reported posts is the problem. The only option these people should have is the ignore feature. If they dont use it then dont bit** about someone being mean because they called you out for something retarded you said.

I've said repeatedly to use ignore.  You have no idea how many reported posts I look at and just close without warning.  I've said too many sensitive snowflakes, you have to have thick skin on the internet.  People trash talk each other and all that.  The people in the blog asked for moderation, asked for no politics, asked to remove trolls, etc.

So people should take complaints to their fellow bloggers.

Epps is outperforming CJGJ in every way except for interceptions, noting that half of the interceptions are opportunities created by the play of others on the defense.  Most don’t see Epps because he is playing deep. He is a key to the bend don’t break defense.

That’s my hope. That Buffalo has just enough to beat the Vikes at home, and then the Vikes are pissed off, and take it out on Dallas the next week.
