The ball hits the ground then he uses the ground to slide it into his chest.  He picked it up off the ground in clear day light.

Obviously I would have looked that up, just like afan.

The point, we know who Calcaterra is.  Some of us are draft nerds, I read tons of profiles and watch a ton of guys, I do this to a fault after we draft players.

I also run the yearly EMB mock draft where we each person takes on an AFC and NFC team, and we do a full draft before the NFL draft. ( That reminds me, I need to go update the spreadsheet to see how many picks we got right )

I also buy magazines, Lindy's, Athlon as I love to read while I am eating breakfast and lunch on the weekends.

You older folks need to quit acting like you are educating folks about very simple things.

You didn't properly punctuate the parenthetical statement.

I didn't, so I put trust in people like you. I did just look him up and the concussion history is a bit concerning.

Yes it it, and I imagine one in the NFL may end his career, especially with having so many in a short span before he initially gave up football.

Yes, another one, though he was a TE converted to OT, and struggled a bit in Buffalo. We had to trade a first to acquire him. Those other guys were free, which Melton is too, which is the whole point. It costs nothing to bring him in, even if he does in fact suck (which he might). But he has prior return and gunner experience, and we have an empty 5th WR spot. Yes, we have our own PS guys that could get the call up, and that may be what ends up happening. But defaulting to 'he was passed over by all the other teams so he must suck" is just lazy

He didn't really struggle in Buffalo.  They just didn't want to pay him.

This is correct.

As far as punt/kick returner, my guess is that Covey gets the job, either through being added to the roster before week one or getting called up from the ps and then being added to the roster later in the season.

The other option is Gainwell, but he seems to be in the doghouse right now and doesn't have any experience in punt returns that I could find. Boston Scott returned some punts and kicks his first season, but fumbled a few and didn't seem to have great instincts.

It seems like Covey is the safest option even if he can't contribute in any way beyond return duties. Having a guy who can field punts without fumbling is probably worth burning a roster spot on that guy.

If memory serves, he led the league in penalties the year before we got him?

I thought you could milk anything with nipples but mine aren’t doing anything?

He made the pro bowl twice in a row and was second team all pro.

The Pro Bowl is a complete joke and has been for many, many years. It's hardly a measuring stick of talent.

He had the ball in both hands not moving. It then touched the ground but he already had it secured. Whats more, when it did touch the ground, even though he took 1 hand away the ball STILL didnt move. It never moved in his grip at all. It was a clear catch and easy call to make. Refs couldnt have been more wrong. Embarrassing to be so wrong even after having the benefit of the replay system.

Well, we know you dont watch college football so Im not surprised you dont know these players.

He didnt. He had it in his hands first. And after it touched the ground, it never moved in his hand. If the ground didnt change his grip, it didnt help him. He maintained the SAME grip that he had, BEFORE it hit the ground.

Just because a ball touches the ground does not mean it helped, and does not mean a pass is incomplete. A player can maintain control of the ball which is exactly what happened here, and the camera angle was perfect to show that on replay. And the refs still got it wrong.

I dont care about that at all. I dont really have a college team.

I was just annoyed with refs being wrong even after replay. Not just replay, but an obvious, easy replay.

I have no dog in this fight, not a Penn State fan.  IMO that was not a catch.

Despite a sub-par season, Peters was selected to his second straight Pro Bowl.  However a knee injury kept him from making the trip to Hawaii.

Okay, now explain how he made second team all pro if, checks notes, Bleacher Report felt he had a "sub-par" season.

Well he also struggled a bit his first year with us, and still made the Pro Bowl then.

Look, he obviously showed a great deal of talent in Buffalo, as we gave up a 1st round pick to get him. He wasn't a scrub by any means. But he wasn't the most dominant tackle in the league either. He DID struggle the year before we got him, and he struggled a bit the first year we had him. He ended up turning into a HOF LT, but let's not pretend it was all sunshine and roses. And he wasn't traded ONLY because of his contract demands, though it certainly played a very large part of it.

He was considered to be one of the top two or three left tackles in the league. Here is a quote from his coach.

"Dick Jauron, Bills head coach 2006-09: He was clearly, if not the best tackle in football, he was well on his way to being that. He had an unbelievable combination of size, strength and athletic ability. Uncanny for a man that big to be that fast, that quick, that tough. It was just a remarkable combination. Clearly, we had no desire to lose this player. From our side, the coaching side, and also from the front office side. They just couldn’t get it done. I’m not into those issues on that (business) side, but the football issues, we had none with him. Except, if he’s not on the field, he’s not helping us. Eventually, we had to do something."

That's a direct quote from his coach. He wasn't traded because he was struggling. He didn't luck into the pro bowl or all pro designations. He was one of the best left tackles in the league, period.

That statement alone is a flat out lie. Because they let him go instead of paying him like a top tackle in the league.
