That statement alone is a flat out lie. Because they let him go instead of paying him like a top tackle in the league.

Yes, the coach is clearly lying about the team not wanting to pay him. As is everyone else connected to the situation - they let him go because he was struggling, not because they didn't want to pay him. Despite the fact that they did the exact same thing three years later with Jairus Byrd.

From another article on him:

I would have said going into the 2008 offseason that he was definitely a top five tackle, and worthy of top five tackle money.

Then he held out. He didn’t report to camp. He joined the team the week before the first game.

He then gave up 15 sacks in 2008—the most among LT’s in the NFL.

He was still physically dominant, he was just getting beat by the more experienced pass rushers like Joey Porter (on one play that cost the Bills a win).  And he wasn’t getting to his block, he was lunging.

It was clear that missing camp affected his game.

Then came this offseason and well, to boil it down to a single theory I like to call "the truth”: He wanted to leave Buffalo!

I’ve been wondering about that too. I think we’re probably in agreement, although I think Dillard might go on IR. Of that list, I would definitely activate Wallace. We’re really thin at safety.

I am fairly certain that Covey will be activated to return punts (Sirianni as much as said so in his press conference if you can read between the lines) so he would be the fifth wideout in uniform on game day, which is more than enough.

One wonders if there is another O-Lineman out there.  With the open roster slot, we may be able to scan all the 31 Practice Squads for a developmental OT.  For example, the Lions have an OT/OG Obinna Eze on their Practice Squad that one of the posters here thought was a good project for Stoutland.

If memory serves, he led the league in penalties the year before we got him?

And he was also a Pro Bowler both of his last two years in Buffalo before we got him.

Well he also struggled a bit his first year with us, and still made the Pro Bowl then.

Look, he obviously showed a great deal of talent in Buffalo, as we gave up a 1st round pick to get him. He wasn't a scrub by any means. But he wasn't the most dominant tackle in the league either. He DID struggle the year before we got him, and he struggled a bit the first year we had him. He ended up turning into a HOF LT, but let's not pretend it was all sunshine and roses. And he wasn't traded ONLY because of his contract demands, though it certainly played a very large part of it.

His 2008 season, last in Buffalo, many questioned his pro bowl and second team all pro selection, and he allowed 11 1/2 sacks that year, after allowing 9 1/2 sacks combined the previous 3 years.

Here is an article after the trade, questioning his commitment and mental toughness.

Gotta sign bo Melton as WR5 and return specialist.

Is he still out there? Makes to much sense.

I believe he is on the Seahawks Practice Squad

Quote

Melton is an athletic receiver with burst who can create yards after the catch, but he is inconsistent as a route runner at this point in time. His production was limited because of erratic quarterback play, but he did make the most of the opportunities he was given, including on gadget plays like jet sweeps.

Overall, Melton is a tough player with above-average hands and catching range who competes on a snap-to-snap basis. He has issues winning versus press coverage and will need to continue to refine his route-running to become a more consistent player. He is a competitive player who will bring special teams value as a gunner and on other units very early in his career. And he has enough athleticism and gives enough effort that there can still be some potential to tap into as a No. 4-type receiver who can align across the formation and make spot appearances when needed. Melton has all the makings of being a special teams ace if he gets the opportunity to do so, with enough upside for more useful snaps in the right situation.

The Pro Bowl is a complete joke and has been for many, many years. It's hardly a measuring stick of talent.

I agree... and I disagree.  Back then, it was still after the Super Bowl, and fewer players backed out.  It was a legit award for him.  Buffalo didn't want to meet his price because in their mind he was still a converted TE UDFA.  The Eagles saw him as the answer to the question of what to do at LT after Tra Thomas.   Reid was right, Buffalo was wrong.

Despite a sub-par season, Peters was selected to his second straight Pro Bowl.  However a knee injury kept him from making the trip to Hawaii.

Ah... bleacher report.   Questionable credibility for opinions.

2007 he was absolutely deserving. No question. He held out 2008, reported to the team a week before the season, and had mentally checked out. It's actually a testament to his natural ability that he still played as well as he did. But it wasn't his best season at all. And living in Toronto, we mostly are exposed to Bills news, and I remember a lot at the time being happy with getting a first (which turned into a good pick for them).

Yes, ultimately Reid was right and we got the absolute most of out Peters, no argument there. But Buffalo let him go because of both his contract demands and a slip in his play in 2008 (which, I guess you could argue all tied back to his contract demands)

It was about the money.   In retrospect, we see that money is clearly his primary motivator.  BTW, I never claimed it was his best season.  He was hardly tailing off though.  The deal with Buffalo was they were arguing over money.  And those sources were likely team mouthpieces.  Was there a legit source back then saying it was undeserving?   2nd team All-Pro isn't anything to sneeze at.

Here's an Inquirer article from his first year with us:

Curious who it was that compiled that sacks allowed data.   If its PFF... I'll pass.

But, regardless... it was all about the money, and for him... it still is.

He allowed 11 1/2 sacks that year, after allowing 9 1/2 the previous 3 years.  The source, whether or not you find it credible, is 100% correct in this instance.

Ryan Clady was also a second team all pro like Peters that year, was third in offensive rookie of the year voting, but did not make the pro bowl after allowing zero sacks.

Hey, Relax Guy! GIF - Relax Southpark Saddam - Discover ...

It SHOULD be fine.  However, Dillard doesn't come off as the toughest guy mentally or physically so a forearm fracture could 100% effect him even when it's healed.  The force of an OL punching is felt in the forearm every single play.  There's no doubt it could be in the back of his head once he comes back.  Shouldn't be but could.

Yup, let's judge a player's performance based on one stat with no context.

Clearly Andy Reid saw the best left tackle in football. He said that exact thing when they traded for him.

And no one from the Bills has ever said that they traded him for bad play on the field. Everyone agrees that they traded him only because of money, just like they did Byrd three seasons later. And Marshawn Lynch as well.

The trade had nothing to do with his performance on the field no matter how much you can try to will it into existence. His own coach is telling you that. Why not listen?
