  • Perfect weekend for me. I got to make my long time soul mate my wife officially. And I got a eagles win today. Life is good.

  • Listen up blog.  Enough. These 2 ass clowns are suspended for 2 weeks.  They've both had warnings to quit the personal attacks.  There's a line between trash talk and just abusing other posters a

Haven't seen it discussed as much because the facemask penalty was so bad but equally as bad was the personal foul call against CGJ.  Such a bad call they didn't even say what the personal foul was.

The issue was the lack of explanation. They rightfully could have called the penalty for the helmet to helmet hit, or the taunt.

We assumed because it was a hit near the sidelines that they were calling a late hit out of bounds. In that case theyd be wrong. But there were penalties that they could have called. Id assume they got him for the helmet to helmet.

Looking back at that… I’m wondering if he got called for that because he stared him down like a jackass after he made the hit.

Was the phantom late hit?  Where he was actually in bounds when contact was made but the idiot refs threw a flag

He was a ball carrier though so helmet to helmet should be negated.  Again, the rules are so silly.  If it truly is about player safety then they should do away with any helmet to helmet.  The taunt is silly too.  He should know better but again, you can have an entire defensive team sprint 100 yards down field to pose after a turnover but one guy happens to stand over a guy or look at him too long after a big hit and that's the problem.  OK NFL.

But you're right, the lack of explanation was the issue.

Not getting as much pub because CGJ got the INT on like the next play, so no harm done - but it wasn't a late hit and it wasn't relayed by the refs to be for the chirping either... not the best day for the zebras.

hmm????? You cant hit a ball carrier helmet to helmet.

And in reality, another eagle hit him helmet to helmet right before CGJ did. So they could have called it on either of them.

we assumed they were calling late hit because it happened along the sidelines. replay clearly showed 2 helmet to helmet blows by eagles on the ball carrier. Most likely the penalty was for the helmet to helmet. It was crown of helmet too.

I hate that rule. If the roles are reversed, the refs NEVER call it against the offensive player. Guess they don't care about player safety for defensive players. Hypocrisy.

The helmet-to-helmet is really just a QB thing or when another offensive player gets knocked cold -  don't expect it to be called otherwise.

Not only that but if a guy who is averaging about 35% of the defensive snaps is that imperative then you better damn well get him on the field for more than 35% of the snaps.  And if he can't handle a higher snap count then why the hell did you draft him.

Yup.

I was a big proponent of drafting Davis, and you are right, if ones D scheme is predicated on one guy and that guy only plays 35% of the snaps then what's the point?

The game before he was hurt Davis was being plugged in a few pass snaps and reportedly the coaches wanted to up his usage, having said that not having a viable back up NT is a problem.

Like I said Ellis was supposed to be that guy but he got hurt and after that they turned to Tui who is definitely not a NT in any way.

As a runner, I was always under the impression that helmet to helmet was OK.  Don't hit the QB in the head or a WR as they catch the ball.  Any other time, it seems like helmet to helmet isn't called.

Sky judge

Some dude sitting in a booth, watching numerous TV's of the game on the field, (like we do at home) can let them know when they miss a TERRIBLE call. I'm not saying every play, but a quick, "you guys missed a terrible facemask, drop a flag" is an easy fix.

The refs already "huddle" to talk over important plays, why not bring in someone sitting in front of numerous tv's/replays.

Side note, this will also help speed games up. It's assanine we have to watch a 85 year old great grandpa trot 65 yards, put on a stupid headset, look into a TV, watch 11 replays when everyone and thier mothers arlready saw the results

They have something called a television match official(TMO) in rugby union with whom the one on field referee is in constant contact with and while rugby moves faster and for longer stretches of time without stoppage than  American football does, there are times where the referee can be heard(because the TV audience can hear everything the ref says) asking the TMO to check something while play goes on and if needs be he can stop the game. Obviously this type of system would need to be tweaked for the nfl but not to the point where it would be not workable.

Stop playing this defense Gannon!  It doesn't work without legit 2 gap NT.  This team with current personnel should be a gap attacking 4-3.

I think it's not helmet to helmet but a question of leading with the helmet.  So any blow to the QB's helmet is penalized.  A helmet to helmet blow between players is penalized if they led with the helmet.  I think it got called on CGJ because he knocked the receiver to the ground.

I like the sky judge for egregious malpractice, I'm against making everything reviewable or more challenges as the game is already pretty slow/drawn out.

A few years ago they started calling helmet to helmet calls when defensive players lead with the crown of their head to initiate / make a tackle....

THE OFFENSIVE PLAYER LOWERS THEIR HEAD TO BRACE FOR IMPACT AS A NATURAL REACTION, DEFENSIVE PLAYER THEN LOWERS THEIR HEAD AND ULTIMATELY HITS THE HELMET OF THE OFFENSIVE PLAYER. As a defensive player, you can't do anything about that, which is why it's the dumbest rule.

I mean - it would make more sense to give a 4-3 look allowing Cox to line up in a 3-technique.

Surprised we haven't seen Rob Gronkowski in IWTETG

Those might be the rules... but my experience is that refs are x10 more likely to call a taunting penalty then a h2h/leading w/helmet penalty unless a QB is involved.

Aren't all of these DTs that we have better in the role as 1 gap penetrators?  I know that Hargrave has played NT but it isnt the best use of his talents.  Cox obviously doesn't like and isn't good at that role either.

I don't understand Gannon's obsession with using the 5-2 sans Davis. If he wants to play that, they need to call up Marvin Wilson to 2 gap NT.
