And we won’t be playing Washington and Houston either.

But this is gonna keep going in a circular argument…

yeah because there are not any of these hypothetical good teams with strong running games you are speaking of. The best teams in the league win by passing and have a sucky run game.

In reality, there is still no blueprint to beat us that can be followed by any current team in the NFL successfully. We have to beat ourselves for someone else to get the win. We are better than everyone in the NFC.

The issue last night was first down run defense.  It seemed like every set of downs it was 5-6 yards on first down, followed by 3rd-and-1 or 3rd-and-2.

If you can get some stuffs or TFL on first down you can get the opposition out of their run game — the Eagles were seldom able to force that.  I think WAS were 10-of-12 on 3rd downs at one point.

That, plus Slay letting McLaurin run wide open to get chunk plays whenever they wanted to.

You don’t think SF has a good run game? Or Dallas? Or Minnesota (although I like our matchup).

You watched the game last night. You don’t even need a strong run game to have a strong rush game against us. That’s the part you’re ignoring for some reason. Washington stinks. Robinson is slow. The OL isn’t good. They controlled the game, and that’s with a backup QB.

I'm thinking further down the road.  Right now, they currently have the same record as the Vikings.  Would prefer to host that game.  Dallas is a couple of games back.

Minnesota in every game but the eagles and packers games has been in a dogfight one possession games. Eventually them winning every close game is going to flip. I tend to think the patriots, packers in GB, jets are going to give the Vikings issues and they’ll drop another 2-3.

Maybe Dallas does as well but I look at Dallas schedule i think there’s 4 games where Dallas is going to be in a struggle to win: at Vikings, vs. giants, vs. eagles and at titans. The other games are Indy, Texans,  jags (all at home) and at Washington (frankly think Washington will nose dive again). if Dallas beats Minnesota then they come home on a Thursday play the giants. I think that gives them an excellent shot of going at least 2-2 in those 4 games if not 3-1. after the giants they play some bad teams like the colts, Texans and jags before the eagles. Might get on a roll here before facing the eagles. I rather Minnesota kill any confidence they have as i think Minnesota is eventually gonna get burned playing these close games.

SF is not good. McCaffery isnt going to run through our D. Will have to be a strong physical back. We already whooped Dallas. They tried running the ball but couldnt hand with us.

The niners won a playoff game with Jimmy g throwing the ball 8 times. I’m sure shanahan would run the crap out of mitchell and mccaffrey if he could win that way. And they can because both of those backs are good. Heck they ran it 41 times and threw 28 passes this week against the chargers.

If watson and doubs find consistency for the packers it really makes them dangerous. They are rookies so i see them having a ton of ups and downs still. But their running attack of jones and Dillion has looked good the past couple weeks.

Our run defense is bad. Our run defense can be average with Jordan Davis. That's good enough, given our strong secondary. Without Jordan Davis, there's no incentive for teams to throw on us. The end.

Washington is 29th in the NFL in YPC and were deadest to relentlessly run at us with a slow running back, a meh OL and a QB who isn’t to be respected. And it worked.

That was a complete lack of respect for our run scheme and our players.

We need Jordan Davis to play more 4DL too. Teams could be happy enough to run on second and 8 with him pulled off the field. Washington was more than happy to do it. Other teams will take notice.

Robinson has looked like a plodder since coming back. I’m not sure it’s the recovery from the shooting incident or he just doesn’t look like he has great burst. Frankly gibson isn’t a good back either. He’s looked better than robinson but that’s cause robinson has looked bad. I tend to think better teams will use the blueprint if it means they can win the game. Some teams will be more strict to it than others like KC or bills.

the next 5 games every team wants to use that blueprint as they want to be a run first team cause it’s the best thing they do and how they can win games. Colts want Taylor to run and less reliant on Matt Ryan at this stage of his career. The packers passing game besides last week has been miserable and they want to establish the run and lean on it. The titans is self explanatory. The giants just ran Barkley 35 times and called 47 runs to 20 called passes. And the bears with fields and Montgomery want to run the ball down your throat and throw as little as possible.

Davis needs to play 50% of the snaps. Maybe not his first game back, more at least half moving forward. Enough with only 1st downs.

I forget where I heard it or read it (maybe Solak) suggested going more to a four down 1 gapping attack defense without Davis since apparently the key to the entire Gannon defense is a unicorn at NT. I’m not sure he’ll want to change the structure at this point, but I don’t think we can line up and try to play the same style of defense on first downs without Davis. We don’t have the horses.

Gannon's scheme drives me crazy. Death by a million cuts. He tries to defend everything a bit all at once. It's good in theory, but when a team is stubborn enough like Washington was last night, you have to adjust. Get more defenders around the LOS. Why is he putting that much pressure on the front to stuff the run without a stud NT? Letting a very average offense - at best - paper cut you to death like that without making them beat you another one way was senseless. The most average, basic DCs and defenses can take some of that away better than Gannon did last night.

Just wanted to stop by to say don't freak out every one. We had to lose sometime and last night we beat ourselves several times over in the 4th. Also the face mask non call was huge as well.  The only legitimate complaint I would say is we need to stop being so sloppy. Hurts was still playing very well at his position.

Move on guys it's one loss.

If you need a HOF player to run your scheme, you're not a good DC.

Rex Ryan was only a good DC when he had an all-pro CB (Chris McCallister, Darrell Revis).

What exactly would Gannon have done if Davis goes in the top 12 this year?

Just throwing out a theory. It’s possible Washingtons run game is so bad and our run defense is so bad that it was like mixing spoiled milk with vinegar. With Taylor, Henry and Barkley they should at least be able to rip off bigger plays and not be able to keep the offense on the sideline so much.

I am 100% buying this theory of suck squared equals an L for us, whereas good plus suck equals a W for us.

You are a damn genius, Gump.😉

Sometimes i see a half equation written on the board and I’m compelled to finish it.

Also, a really nice tackle by CJGJ.

Not sure if this has really been talked about, but Milton Williams isn't all that great. Not terrible, just kinda meh. We definitely need some DL in this draft.

I think he's still a very good third round pick. Not a starter but very much a good player with good value.
