Yup, hate all of those real time updates from training camp and info about personnel moves as soon as they happen.

No, wrong. What he’s achieved in the solar energy space, Tesla, and his SpaceX projects are incredible.

Just because he’s causing an uproar doesn’t make him less smart. He has an IQ of 155 which places him in the 99th percentile I would venture to guess.

I've spoken with colleagues who were close to the top engineers at Tesla. Their words were something to the effect of "he's not the talent, but he knows how to surround himself with it." This was back in 2016, and everything I've seen him say or do since then seems to fit that description.

And it's not just an "uproar" he's causing, 75% of employees of a company he's the CEO of, are now threatening to leave. And before you call them dead weight, remember that they already did a round of cuts a few days into his tenure. Meaning this would be a 90% workforce reduction in two weeks time. I don't care how smart you think you are, that's an awful way to run a company. Mind you, this is a company he just paid $44B for, so let's not act like he doesn't really care about what happens with it.

Elon Musk, depending on how you want to index inflation, will go down as having the worst acquisition in human history: by loss of market value.

So yes, he will go down in the history books and will be known for that.

I think people who knock Twitter don’t really understand it. It’s the best source of news on the planet as far as how quickly things are happening in the world and how fast they get reported. Any big news story that has broke in the past 10 years I saw it on Twitter first and basically immediately. There is no replacement for sports reporting either. If it somehow does go away, which it won’t, it would hurt a lot of people in the media who have built up their reputation on the platform.

I am surprised he didnt have a plan. Or, if he did, that it has was this badly miscalculated. I wonder if his self admitted Asperger's didnt greatly factor in to his inability to read the room.

I'm not, and the second his idea about the $8 checkmark was reported, nobody else should've been either. It's not just misreading the room, it's misreading the literal purpose and function your product is intended to serve.

He shouldn’t have bought Twitter plain and simple.

But can’t knock him for surrounding himself with highly intellectual people. That’s what smart people do. A lot of the ideas were created by him before he leveraged his network and bumped elbows with fellow gifted individuals to carry them forward to today.

Agree with all of this except the not going away part. Not sure what will happen, but twitter was not a very profitable entity before elon bought it, and once he is done wrecking it, who will turn the ashes back into a functioning entity?

Good leaders always surround themselves with smart people. Bad leaders bring in "their guys" and overly focus on people they can trust.

I'm not, but as I said, he's good at making it seem like he's on the same level as them intellectually, when in reality he's not. The way he's been managing this takeover is proof of that, and is playing out before our eyes in realtime.

For whatever it’s worth:

Twitter aside that’s just an absurd statement. I’ll leave it at that - not going to spend any more time on this lol.

These aren't my words, this is what his engineers openly tell their peers in the industry.

still part of the surprise that he had such a horrible idea. Its musk. Even if he is as dumb as most of CVON says when it comes to the actual engineering work and stuff like that- if nothing else he is a revolutionary idea guy. Even if he lacked the technical know how to design his ideas and make them reality.

The 8 dollar check mark is completely uncharacteristic for one of the greatest idea guys in history.

Even so, THAT can be fixed. The way he immediately lost all of his employees due to a complete lack of emotional intelligence is whats shocking.

I suspect he did lack the technical know how to run an social network/software company. Hes been in to mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, etc with Tesla, and Space X. He has built automobiles, communication systems, rockets, and sent satellites in to orbit devised a completely new way to dig vast tunnel networks and revolutionize human transportation. But I never took him for the guy who designs software for the cars. Who would be able to write code for a company like twitter.

I would have expected him to have assembled a team to run that company that seems way outside of his wheelhouse. Instead, he came in and seemed to unilaterally make a whole bunch of knee jerk decisions that just didnt make any sense. But his biggest failures are in the human relations side of it. Thats where he has done all of he irreparable damage.

Agreed on all of this but at the same time, it kinda deserves to be knocked for some stuff.

Oh. Gee. The one time in his life he smoked weed.

You couldn’t have at least found a tweet to come back at me with?

Not really. Modern day automobiles are basically mobile software platforms. In aggregate, the lines of codes needed to make an automobile function (even before self-driving) are orders of magnitude more than what's running on the entire phone in your hand right now. Tesla is every bit the software company that Twitter is, if not more.
