Again. I’m not talking about all of Howie’s drafting.
I was referring to the initial tweet talking about the return they got for Wentz, Reagor and JJAW.  Not sure why it’s that difficult to understand.

the Eagles did not come out on top by trading those 3.

The picks used to select those three were a sunk cost.

The point of the tweet was to show Howie taking known quantities of suspect value and turning them into things of real value.

Nope, no trolling here.

Leave it up to you to think the Willie Beamon comp is a good thing.

If I remember correctly Willie beamon lost In the playoffs his coach quit got hired by a different( expansion,?) team and brought beamon in as a FA QB.

I think if hurts exited In the playoffs then got signed or traded to another team and that team gave him a big contract many eagle fans would be ok with that.

So yeah I'll go with RTKs beamon comparison...

Should we praise a GM that can’t turn high draft picks into things of real value?

I know not all of these are Howie, but this just looks bad.

2014 Marcus Smith

2015 Nelson Agholor

2016 Carson Wentz

2017 Derek Barnett

2018 no 1st round pick

2019 Andre Dillard

2020 Jalen Reagor

Howie is almost forced to get creative because of years of missed high end picks.

we can talk about how Howie is great at being able to get value out of sunk cost but we can also talk about how Howie was a large participant in creating those sunk costs. It’s ok to be able to talk about both.

Not you but on this board/blog it is OK to give somebody props like what howie has done the last two years. Building the team back up and getting the roster we have with trades, good free agent signings and solid drafting. It is also OK to say howie/eagles did a pretty less than stellar job drafting, scouting (and scouting department) and using cap space better from around 2019 through 2020 which ultimately led to a collapse,  dismissing doug a couple years after winning our first super bowl and the Qb they thought was their guy for a decade wanting out. Both of those things could be talked about. You don’t have to defend them every corner and you don’t have to trash them at every corner.

Howie‘s 2021 class was pretty good as long as Dickerson holds up. This class looks promising as well. I actually liked this past class a lot cause they are guys i was excited about prior to the draft. Hoping it plays out that way.

his 2018 class was very good. But his overall success of the 2019 and 2020 classes are highly dependent on what sanders and hurts do this year as it dictates what they do with them in the future. If hurts and sanders play great it looks more promising. If they don’t it’s likely that only 1 of the 9 top 3 rounds of picks of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 classes (3 1sts, 4 seconds, 2 thirds) got a second contract. That would be Barnett who really it was more cause he has been  so underwhelming that around the league he had minimal value.

Of course all of them are men.

Are they, though?

Someone is going to fill the role of so-so LT for the Cowboys. Might was well be Peters giving up the sacks, or whoever is in for him by the 3rd quarter.

Disagree.  I'd think the fans would give you credit for the cleanse.

But... Is a rebound number.  Not going to last.

That was always the question with him... and we'll see what happens with him.  He missed the whole preseason... by design?  Hard to know.

Yup. It’s why i loved the player but hated the injury baggage that comes with him. It was a risky pick due to the injuries he’s had and if he would. Talent was really never the issue with him.

Hmmmm....I think that has been repeatedly mentioned.  No one is absolving Howie of his mistakes. They have been accepted as gospel here.

But there is no need to 'talk about both' every time Howie deserves some praise.  Just say 'nice job' without rehashing the same old ish.

So what do we think about Detroit?

You can praise a GM for the things he's done in the past seven months on their own merit without the need to 'Yeah, but...' things to death.

I mean in this circumstance i think it warrants both. It’s great to get good value out of sunken cost. It also should be noted they are only sunk cost because of poor scouting and drafting. They kind of go hand-in-hand in the situation. You don’t get good value in a trade from a sunk cost unless you identify the fact we made a mistake for it to be a sunk cost.

The risk is that we lose to them.  I doubt they beat us.

So if Reagor and JJAW had been day-3 picks, only then the moves this offseason would be praise-worthy?

But because of the mistakes made two-plus years ago, there is no credit to be had?

I give Howie credit for moving on. Cut your losses. Keep moving forward.

I don’t care that he got anything back for JJAW and Reagor.

It is the largest city in Michigan.
It borders Lake Michigan. water.
I have a friend who lives there.

There is a chance that Minshew plays the 4th quarter. Jalen will be resting by then in a fancy Eagles cap on the sideline.

The beat down should be severe.

Nicely put.

It should be a tight game at halftime, before we pull away.

We matchup well against them. Playing defense against our offense with bad LBs is a recipe for disaster given our run game. Our defense front is also more than deep enough to not get pounded by their OL. They will probably throw a ton of screens and dump offs.

I don't think people realize that most teams, if not all, miss on draft picks, especially 1st rounders.  But to some Howie is the only one.

There should be a Hall of Shame for draft pick busts.
We’ve had our share.

The misses on some of these first round QBs is epic.
