EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

Oh yeah for sure. But didn't think they will risk him much in a regular season tilt, unless game is on the line.

No risk if he fair catches all the punts, or lets them fly over his head into the end zone.

I'm not a fan of Devonte at PR not even a little.

Maybe if the eagles had a PR team that actually blocked then maybe but he's so valuable on offense I'm not going to put him out there to get gang tackled by a bunch of dudes and risk injury.

He won't get tackled if he fair catches everything.

Who, New Orleans?

Yes, New Orleans.

Sermon is the player most likely to be cut at this point and moved to the PS.  Only Book has been inactive more.

I would probably be just as inclined to cut Book as cut Sermon.

I wasn't being petty at all. I was adding context of why he would be in the city since most people probably don't know he has a house there, partly lives there and is still very active in the community.

They could revert him from the retired list to their active list and just keep him on the team.

They could say no, but I'm not sure what happens then. Most likely it goes to an arbitrator or something and he eventually gets released.

I'd guess at this point in their season they would just release him and honor his wishes since he was a pretty important player to their organization and there's no reason for them to get into this bad PR.

But, there are two important deadlines at play here. After this week (week 13) players cannot revert off the retired list for the rest of the season. The only way he would be able to play after this week is clear waivers and then sign with someone. If someone else claims him he has to stay retired because the deadline to come off the list passed, and he would apply to the rule (aka Deion Sanders 2002).

Since were passed the trade deadline, if he wanted to play for someone else there is no option but to go through waivers. If they release him this week, teams can claim him but would probably be forced to add him to their roster. So maybe no one one claims him. Basically if it has any chance at happening, it would have to be this week.

I would think if it's just a two week absence he wouldn't have much time for his gaming career.

Thanks for the thoughtful response.  One aspect of waivers is that the claiming team takes on the players contractual obligation, which includes a base Salary of approximately $8 million prorated for the percentage of the season left to play.  How many teams would squander $4 million of cap space to claim him and keep him on their roster?

None. But I don’t believe that would be his base salary as the Saints did the Howie Roseman special with him (decrease base salary to vet minimum to give immediate cap relief than file the retirement paperwork after June 1st to limit dead cap).

Even at minimum I’m not sure teams would care enough to claim him to block him. Just saying it’s an option. But if they try after Week 13, I can see a team claiming him just to keep him on the retired list since I don’t believe that would have any effect on the salary cap.

For some reason professional athletes gaming is always entertaining to me. Nothing will ever top the Spurs winning it all then having a StarCraft LAN party on the plane though.

I think it says more about their lifestyle than anything.  I'm sure the majority of players do something with themselves but in reality...all they have to do is work out and play football.  They have all the time in the world to play video games.

Heck of a game. That was around the same time Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament both launched as well. Was a golden era for gaming, at least it felt so at the time.

Possible. I think they’d prefer to keep him this offseason if possible to see what he looks like after an entire offseason with him and how he looks in camp and preseason

Do you believe if waived he won’t make it to the PS?  I don’t think it’s much of a risk.

The highlight of StarCraft is playing allies with your friends and then right before you win, you slowly incircle your friends base without them noticing and then turning off the don’t attack allies button to bs them.

I never griefed but I have to say it does amuse me watching Leeroy Jenkins type moments on YouTube 😂

On my list of all time favorites for sure. StarCraft and the Nintendo 64 played way too big of a role in my middle school years.

F yes. Getting home from classes and churning out countless hours of Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and Ocarina of Time without a care in the world. Amen to that.

I think it’s likely he clears. But Idk some teams completely out of it that might just claim him with nothing to lose right now.
