I think Hurts is on a shorter leash than it’s made out to be.

Also would look to see if Minshew could be signed to an extension

Nah. Hurts will have this season to show whether he's the franchise QB or not, the entirety of this season. Minshew is nothing more than the backup, that's all he will ever be for the Eagles.

Lowie sees this season as a win-win as either Hurts proves himself, or they use their accumulated draft capital to go get a QB in a stacked class. Pulling Hurts for Minshew is meaningless.

Was that meant to be an insult? If so, why the need for hostilities?

More of a joke than an insult

I'd imagine Covey will return punts on Sunday. I don't think we've seen Quez or Gainwell handle punts.

Easy to add him too.  Can either use Dillard's spot or one of the Sunday call ups.

What percentage of the defensive snaps does Jordan Davis play on Sunday?

50%. You want Davis against a team like the Lions.

it's also indoors, so you'd think he won't be as gassed.  I know some of the early season games can be HOT.

I don’t know how he can be.  It’s not like they have a promising young player behind him.  The only chance he misses games is because of injury, due to his style of play.  Which I think will happen.  Minshew is just a guy IMO.

We've got Ian Book!  :flex:

100%. This is the time.

Play Davis is half #1. Hope we're up, then unleash Hargrave/Williams in the 2nd half.

I also think around 40%

Depends on the Lions offensive gameplan (outside of biting off kneecaps), but I think ~35-40% sounds right.

Looking back at the Detroit game last year, they started out focusing on Hockenson, and he did pretty well against us. Their first drive they got down to our 43, then punted like Cowardly Lions. They pinned us deep, and after a 3 and out, they got the ball back around mid-field. Drove down to our 29, but missed a 47 yard field goal.

We then drove for a TD. They had a 3 and out (and lost 12 yards thanks to Sweats second sack of the game), we responded with a FG.

Then, Detroit had a strange, 9 play, 10 yard drive. It was capped with a 13 yard sack by Barnett.

We scored another TD and the rout was on. Detroit had another long drive, 12 plays, but failed to convert on a 4th and 1 Williams got home for a sack.

It appears on many 3rd downs, they targeted Hockenson, and successfully so. When they didn't target Hockenson, they were stuffed.

Going into this week, I think you focus on shutting down Swift/Williams in the  run game. Our d-line should be able to do so. Amon-Ra really came on strong at the end of last year, I wonder if he'll be more of a focus than he was against us last year. I think you try to take him out of the game, and accept that Hockenson will likely get a lot of targets. He had 10 catches for 89 yards last year, and I think he may end up similar to that again.

Offensively, we popped off for 46 carries and 236 yards. Hurts didn't pass much, only 103 yards, but he didn't really have to. Goedert had a solid game but there wasn't enough volume for anybody else.

I like Detroit this year, but they match up very poorly against us. I think their run game will struggle, and if Goff has to win it for them I don't think he can. I think we cruise after a slow start, winning 31-10. I think Hurts forces things to Brown, who has the best stat line of the day, say, 7 for 110 and 2 TDs.

Go Birds!

Be careful.  Don’t troll

Seems folks can't even get excited for a roster move anymore without an accusation of trolling.

BTW, I prefer to call it either sarcasm or satire.

I’m not implying that Minshew be made franchise QB, more so just solidifying the QB position beyond this year.

Minshew reminds me of Jeff Garcia. I think he’s a high end backup/bridge starter who could take a good team to the playoffs. He came in last season vs an inferior opponent and won with ease. We probably don’t even win that game with some shmuck like Reid Sinnett or Ian Book.

My son is playing soccer this year for the first time. Scored his 1st goal on Saturday. 3rd game of the season.

We have our own little Neymar here.

No disrespect to your budding star but I prefer Messi.

P.S. He’ll probably be taller though, so Neymar isn’t a shabby second.

You have to admit, though, that a few folks try to poison the water for the rest of us.

I think we get off to a slow start as well. Lions go up 10-0 or 14-0, but we come back and win 27-17.

I don't deny that.  Generally, I don't engage those folks, or place them on ignore.

I am still stupefied by the claim for Ian Book, though.  Waste of a roster spot, if you ask me.

Worse than that, Pickett is behind Rudolph - he's the 3rd QB right now. Or why the draft isn't the best place to get a starting QB if you want to win now.

Neither is trotting out a running back at QB, but here we are.

It boggles my mind as well. The conspiratorial part of me suspects they want to pick his brain about the Saints. We play them late and we want to F them up every way we can since we hold their pick.

Steelers aren't in win-now mode.  They have time to develop Pickett, who had a solid camp and played extremely well in their preseason games.

Mahomes sat a full year -- did him a lot of good.  Lamar Jackson sat a good part of his first year; won an MVP shortly after.  Don't act as though the Steelers not throwing him out there Week 1 is an indictment on his ability.

I mentioned before the amount of Lions games I watched(way too much) but I said it a couple weeks back and I'll say meow.... That Eagles/Lions game wasnt the Lions all year. It was a true outlier. I think we win, but it's gonna be a nail biter

Wanna make a small bet? Avatar control for a week, I say Eagles win by 14 or more?

Hurts is 21:

BREAKDOWN

We’re in year three with Jalen Hurts and I’m still not ready to make any grand declarations on what he could be. The development we’ve seen from his time at Alabama up until now has been impressive, but he still has a long way to go before establishing himself as a good starting quarterback. For now, though, Hurts is certainly a useful one. He is a legitimate threat as a runner, which elevates the Eagles run game, and he can hit on deep throws to the perimeter. That’s a nice foundation for an NFL offense! Now, if Hurts can just start reading out basic pass concepts and hitting deep crossers off play-action, Philadelphia might have something.

Hurts already seems to have a good grasp on the offense. The Eagles gave him some pre-snap responsibilities during his second season, allowing him to check in and out of runs, and he pulled the right strings for the most part. As things stand, Hurts is an asset on his cheap rookie deal, but he’ll need to take another step forward as a passer if he’s going to earn a big second contract.

BIGGEST STRENGTH: CREATIVITY

Hurts may not be the explosive runner that Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen is, but he’s someone you can build a run game around. He knows how to set up blocks and he’s got a thick build that can absorb contact. Philadelphia’s offense doesn’t feature the most complex passing game, but it doesn’t have to when the defense is forced to keep extra numbers in the box to account for Hurts.

BIGGEST WEAKNESS: POCKET PRESENCE

If Hurts was willing to stick in the pocket for a second or two longer, his decision-making would improve. Every game, there’s at least one example of the young quarterback dropping his eyes to react to pressure while a receiver runs uncovered downfield.
