EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

Oh, here we go.

Dallas gets a big win and all of a sudden its panic time ?

Just looking at the bare stats, seems the Colts played them close for 3 quarters. Last quarter must've been insane.

Eagles just thrashed a good team, it was never really close.

Eagles have only struggled when part if the team has decided to take the day off.

If they stay healthy enough, they have a real shot at it all.

Dallas's last four games...

image.png.054fef7e1e5a915ca8a532e9eb2324d6.png

3 of 4 on the road.

3 of 4 teams playing for playoff spots.

It's not going to be easy for them to finish with just 3 losses.

Dallas scoring 33 in the last quarter was wild. what happened exactly?

I imagine that IND got behind - and went into pass-pass mode with Marty Ice and things unraveled quickly as he is both immobile and weak armed.

Makes sense to work him back slowly.  They really didn't need him much last game.  Might as well give his ankle a little more time to heal.

If he is healthy, then he needs the reps.  If he is not healthy then that's a different story.  He's still a rookie (for real).  He needs reps.

He does.  But at the same time, high ankle sprains are slow to recover 100%.  I think they found a decent middle ground.  Have him available, but don't lean on him too much. Suh and Joseph also need to get into more 'game shape', as this was only their 3rd game?  Or was it just #2?

Indy scored and missed a two point conversion to tie.

Dallas came back and Dak threw a pick, but the refs ruled it incomplete on the field. For some odd reason, Saturday didn’t challenge it. It was tough to tell if the ball hit the ground or not, but it was such a big moment in the game, you throw that challenge flag regardless.

He didn’t, seemed like the players gave up at that moment too and the rout was on

I thought yesterday was their best all-around game of the season. Which is pleasant to see considering the previous 3 games were sloppy. Always good to whoop up on another playoff team.

Yeah, I didn’t get that far. The DAL defense looked like it could get got and Dak wasn’t that sharp upto that point.

I don't want to look too much in to it because Hargrave is playing at a high level and consistently for the time being, and Cox seems to have stepped up with the arrival of Suh and Joseph but with ALLLL of the money and draft picks invested in the DL, to only have one DL play 50% of the snaps just seems like such a waste.  I know the starters were pulled early too and that effects the snap counts but I just feel the DL is hugely overrated.

With that being said, maybe I need to look at the Eagles DL like the Phils bullpen.  They are going to pay guys a lot of money for non starter type of roles.  Sweat had a great game yesterday.  Hargrave is playing at a top level. BG is still getting paid a lot of money...14 snaps but had a sack.  Cox is getting paid a ton, 49% of the snaps but made some plays.  They don't have a horse on the DL though.  They don't have that every day threat that you game plan against.

I said this before the draft because this is an ongoing theme for the Eagles DL...I think for what the Eagles do you can build a very solid DL with veterans instead of 1st round picks and $100s of millions.  I don't think Davis is a bust, but I do look at his impact on a game compared to where he was drafted.  Trading up for a run stuffer to play 40% of the snaps in a passing league just seems silly.  He isn't Vita Vea.  I don't know, I'm just so underwhelmed with the DL even after a good game because they aren't consistent at it.   It took bringing in to 31+ year old veterans off the street more than halfway through the season to "wake up" the DT on the team who are already getting paid handsomely.

These are just out loud thoughts, don't want it to come off as complaining after a great win and shutting down Henry.  Again, just looking at the amount invested vs the amount played and production.

I thought he got dinged during the game - like walked off, not a huge concern. I figured they throttled him back for the day after that.

Hurts best passing game since the Steelers game probably

They do, but you can only beat what is in front of you - there is no harm in beating up on teams that you should beat up on.

Yup, the rest of the division has a similar schedule and we're the only ones at 11-1

Yep. I think the plan was to work him in slowly anyway, and then he got dinged. No reason to push him more.

There aren’t very many good teams to play either.

I think he did as well, which is all the more reason to not overuse him yesterday.

It was nice to see him out there.

I liked what I saw from him. His first play he drew a holding penalty and still was able to wrap Henry’s ankles to help bring him down. Dean seemed to be around the ball a lot once he came in.

Dean needs to be kept clean in order to be effective.  But, with the 5 man front, that is the goal.  Then he can fly to the ball.  He did well yesterday, but I think he's much more useful on D than as a ST.  As a ST, his instincts won't come into play the same way as they do at LB.

Dean looked good but he also looked SMALL out there

Depth matters on the DL more than any other position, you can see the difference in Cox since they added Suh and Joseph, cutting his snaps way back has revived him.

Graham is playing like prime Graham by only playing 25-30 snaps a game.

Davis isn't ready for a big workload, it's a combination of NFL conditioning, maturing into his body and technique that allows you to do more than bull rush and how to anchor more effectively (get more results with less energy expended). But he doesn't need to play more than 30 snaps a game this year.

It's a great rotation now, Davis/Joseph at NT, Cox, Hargrave, Suh at the DT (3-4 End, 4-3 DT) spot, Williams at DE/DT, Graham, Sweat, Quinn at DE. Quinn is the only disappointment, I thought he had a shot at the Long role off the bench, but he's looking more like Kerrigan. But they're lining up Reddick a lot at 3-4 SLB on the LOS.

They're in the last year of the Cox deal, they'll have to extend Hargrave, resign Joseph, let Cox and Quinn walk and Graham will retire or come back on a backup type deal. And draft a lineman in the first 3 rounds.
