I know Gannon likes to catch a lot of flack on here, but the defense has given up double digit points only three times in the second half this season including once in the last six games. Their second half adjustments have been really good.

It looked like they took Davis out of the DL rotation, but I think I saw him taking XP snaps in the second half as the wing on the right side.

There was 1 defensive snap where JD was on the field with LJ... very nice.

They gave him 6 snaps. Really eased him back in. I thought Davis was less explosive and a step slower than normal. It was noticeable.

Davis limped off the field at one point and then I didn’t notice him again. Hope he’s not reinsured and just needs some rest.

Depth matters on the DL more than any other position, you can see the difference in Cox since they added Suh and Joseph, cutting his snaps way back has revived him.

Graham is playing like prime Graham by only playing 25-30 snaps a game.

Davis isn't ready for a big workload, it's a combination of NFL conditioning, maturing into his body and technique that allows you to do more than bull rush and how to anchor more effectively (get more results with less energy expended). But he doesn't need to play more than 30 snaps a game this year.

It's a great rotation now, Davis/Joseph at NT, Cox, Hargrave, Suh at the DT (3-4 End, 4-3 DT) spot, Williams at DE/DT, Graham, Sweat, Quinn at DE. Quinn is the only disappointment, I thought he had a shot at the Long role off the bench, but he's looking more like Kerrigan. But they're lining up Reddick a lot at 3-4 SLB on the LOS.

They're in the last year of the Cox deal, they'll have to extend Hargrave, resign Joseph, let Cox and Quinn walk and Graham will retire or come back on a backup type deal. And draft a lineman in the first 3 rounds.

I'm not questioning the rotation, I'm questioning the investment to get to that rotation.  I understand that BG and Cox are in final year but they are still taking up significant cap space for the snaps they are playing. I'm also still hesitant to bring Hargrave back.  He's going to command a raise and he's so hot and cold with his play.  He goes from loaded stat sheets to did he even play?

Relying on draft picks isn't the road I want to go down.  The Eagles track record at DL as of late is spotty at best.  Jury is still out on Davis.  Williams is MEH.  Casey Toohill isn't playing here.  Tarron Jackson is PS.  Tuipulotu is JAG and his injury was a blessing this year.  Shareef Miller.  Great 4th round pick there.  Josh Sweat was a good 4th rounder though.  Derek Barnett isn't coming back and was hardly worth pick 14.  Elijah Qualls, Alex McCallister, Brian Mihalik, Marcus Smith, Taylor Hart, Beau Allen, Joe Kruger, David King.

17 DL picked since Fletcher Cox.  3 1st round picks, multiple trade ups as well as the usual late round rabbit in the hat picks.  They have more OL drafted than Pro Bowl players with their DL draft picks.

As I remember the game announcers said he limped off the field at one point.

Maddox back this week?

He’s allowed to be. From his comments a few days ago, it seems he might not be.

Yet, we are 11-1 with arguably the best roster in the league.

Show me a team that consistently hits on their draft picks.  Filling a paragraph with Chip picks and other day-3 misses isn't convincing.

They have a QB on a rookie deal.  So they chose to invest heavily at the next four important places on the field: OL, DL, WR (Brown), and CB (Slay).  Tell me that's misguided.

He did. He also came back in. Played more on ST than actual defense.

This should be another week in which we pass the ball and try to load up and stop the run.

I dont care if he is small because he can run and tackle. Get him in there

He looks small compared to today's linebackers. Looks like a safety out there.

Maybe he reads the boards and is tired of getting trashed on

He actually made a play on special teams yesterday for the first time this year

He looked ok on defense, he was in the right spot, was credited with a few tackles.

He doesn't play because Edwards is a better green dot guy and is bigger and White is better in coverage.

Both those guys are FA at years end I can't imagine both are brought back which will give Dean an opportunity to win one of these off ball spots next year, we'll see if he can take it.

I'm not complaining where they are right now.  I don't think anyone thought we'd be 11-1 and they just played a great game.  Sweat and Reddick were forces off the edge, BG made a great play and the DT were solid.

This isn't a this year thing though.  We always hear about their stacked DL and the investment made.  I've mentioned it in the past, I just expect more from the DL based on the amount of resources they put in to it.

The Chip Kelly DL picks were Bennie Logan, Joe Kruger, David King, Marcus Smith, Taylor Hart, Beau Allen and Brian Mihalik.  All the rest fall on Howie.  That includes some significant investments in Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Shareef Miller, Josh Sweat, Derek Barnett and so on.  Keep in mind, the Eagles traded a 1st, 4th and 2 5th round picks to draft Davis.

Point I'm making is that for the investment the Eagles put in to DL, I expect more.  It took 2 street free agents to come in to take the load off of the rest of the DL to wake them up.  That's poor IMO.

He has a nose for the ball.  I was really impressed to see the way he reacted to playing time on D.  First play he was in I believe was the one he caused the holding play.  He also laid some really solid hits out there.  I noticed Dean making plays as much as I noticed TJ Edwards take the worst angle ever and get completely outrun by Tannehill. Give me more Dean mixed in moving forward.

NCAA free agency for Slovis.

Well, he can't be going to Colorado.  Deion has already installed his kid as their starting QB

Reddick 9 sacks

Hargrave 8

Sweat 6.5

BG 5.5

Cox 5

Williams 2

Marlon T 1

Joseph .5

Suh .5

Total - 38 sacks thru 12 games. Average 3.16 sacks per game.

Over 17 games, that would be 54 sacks. Last year, Pitt led the league in 55 total sacks as a team.

We are second in the league in sacks.  The defense is first in turnovers, second in yards allowed per game, and seventh in points per game.

Please elaborate on what 'more' would look like.

You don't get bonus points for not needing street free agents. They matter too (to every team).

I think those numbers are a bit misleading though because their big dogs go stretches without making a play.  I just want more consistency.  I don't want a 20 sack/year guy but I would like more substantial starters I guess.  I think Fletcher Cox has tainted my view on their DL investment.  I think he should have been gone 3 years ago and I hope they learn their lesson with him on how they handle Hargrave.

It also seems their DL, as high as the sack number is, isn't dominant.  I need to stop comparing to JJ days because as good as his pass rush was, that defense was equally as frustrating.

Again, I'm not complaining where they are right now.  I'm thrilled with the team.  Outside of the penalties, yesterday's game was so fun to watch.  I'm just doing out loud thinking of total investment in certain areas.  Next year will be interesting to see what they do with Cox, BG, Hargrave, Barnett.  Some serious retooling will be going on.
