Josh Allen at 5 is a choice. Hurts behind Marcus Mariota is absurd. Do not understand how Daniel Jones is in the top 30.

They give pretty good breakdowns if you click on them. I thought Allen's was pretty accurate:

BIGGEST STRENGTH: ARM TALENT

Allen’s arm affords him a margin of error that no other quarterback in the league enjoys. If he needs a little extra time to decide whether a receiver is open, he can take it knowing he can transport the ball to his guy in an instant. And it doesn’t matter what’s going around him or how set his feet are—Allen is going to get the ball to its destination.

BIGGEST WEAKNESS: PRE-SNAP

Creative defensive coordinators remain Allen’s weakness. The brawny QB still has a hard time keeping up with defenses that change the picture on him after the snap. Allen can usually overcome any pre-snap mistakes thanks to his mobility, but he’s at his best when he’s comfortable with what he’s seeing.

Steelers aren't in win-now mode.  They have time to develop Pickett, who had a solid camp and played extremely well in their preseason games.

Mahomes sat a full year -- did him a lot of good.  Lamar Jackson sat a good part of his first year; won an MVP shortly after.  Don't act as though the Steelers not throwing him out there Week 1 is an indictment on his ability.

Of course it's an indictment - if you're behind Mason Rudolph, you're not progressing as fast as one might hope.

Rudolph started 8 games in his second season, put up a QBR of 36.2. He's not even a top backup.

The fact that they kept him instead of making Pickett the #2 suggests they weren't impressed by what they saw in TC.

Its amazing that all these morons on TV and the internet go on and on about Vegas odds as if they were predictions of outcomes. They are set up to manipulate the distribution of bets. That's it. When the Cowboys are getting better odds than they deserve its because the Cowboys are popular and Vegas was built on suckers.

Read Ian Book's draft profiles. Watch his play in New Orleans.

If you are excited by him its because you liked his shiny helmet in college.

Did Ian Book look better than Sinnett in the preseason? That’s all that matters right now.

Hurts is 21:

BREAKDOWN

We’re in year three with Jalen Hurts and I’m still not ready to make any grand declarations on what he could be. The development we’ve seen from his time at Alabama up until now has been impressive, but he still has a long way to go before establishing himself as a good starting quarterback. For now, though, Hurts is certainly a useful one. He is a legitimate threat as a runner, which elevates the Eagles run game, and he can hit on deep throws to the perimeter. That’s a nice foundation for an NFL offense! Now, if Hurts can just start reading out basic pass concepts and hitting deep crossers off play-action, Philadelphia might have something.

Hurts already seems to have a good grasp on the offense. The Eagles gave him some pre-snap responsibilities during his second season, allowing him to check in and out of runs, and he pulled the right strings for the most part. As things stand, Hurts is an asset on his cheap rookie deal, but he’ll need to take another step forward as a passer if he’s going to earn a big second contract.

BIGGEST STRENGTH: CREATIVITY

Hurts may not be the explosive runner that Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen is, but he’s someone you can build a run game around. He knows how to set up blocks and he’s got a thick build that can absorb contact. Philadelphia’s offense doesn’t feature the most complex passing game, but it doesn’t have to when the defense is forced to keep extra numbers in the box to account for Hurts.

BIGGEST WEAKNESS: POCKET PRESENCE

If Hurts was willing to stick in the pocket for a second or two longer, his decision-making would improve. Every game, there’s at least one example of the young quarterback dropping his eyes to react to pressure while a receiver runs uncovered downfield.

Where would Hurts have ranked if he didn't give him a 90 for creativity?  Because just pulling the ball down and running away from a clean pocket isn't actually "creative" .... although he gave Lamar a 120 (?) for creativity, so what the hell, I guess.

Some of those ratings when you take a deeper dive are worth the read for comedic value.  He gave Jameis a 75 on decision making.  The guy threw 30 INT in a season -- 30 frickin' INT -- and he's a 75 for decision making

What a wonderful week it is. The summer long forbearance on rent is over. Rent is officially due.

What percentage of the defensive snaps does Jordan Davis play on Sunday?

Depends on the health of Hargrave’s toe and what shape Hargrave is in.  If Hargrave is fully healthy and in football shape, I would suspect Davis plays around 40% (because Hargrave is unlikely fully in shape). If the toe is still bothering Hargrave enough to make him a scratch, Davis replaces his snaps and we see Marlon T.

I think this analysis is perfect.

He's in the Nasty Nate not better than just playing the wishbone category.

Colts are a good candidate to win fewer games than last year.  Colts, Raiders, and Saints are being overrated.

Have to disagree.  Rudolph is more seasoned because he has played NFL games and may be better suited than Pickett at this point for coming off the bench at this point.  A single TC doesn’t usually make a starting QB. Doesn’t mean that Pickett doesn’t surpass Rudolph as the season goes on.  Also doesn’t mean that if Mitch gets hurt and has to miss a game that they don’t have Pickett start instead of Rudolph but why play a rookie early if not forced to do so? Depth charts are the creation of the Spuds for teams and not by the coaches.

Still crazy that two years ago at this time I had no doubt that we had our franchise QB. I used to get crap in here for criticizing him for trying to be Houdini too often.

That being said the Colts organization, media, and fanbase absolutely despise him. In Philly, people don’t dislike him nearly as much. Most likely because there is no Super Bowl without him. But man oh man was he horrid in 2020.
