Bills cut Marquez Stevenson.  If he clears waivers, Howie might consider signing him to the PS.  WR and RS.  Was UH returner before Marcus Jones.   Nifty route runner.  Not tremendously bigger than Covey but a bit faster. Not sold that one game makes Covey the solution and he still isn’t returning Kickoffs.

What do you do if both are there?

I’d lean Anderson personally. But, what the Hell do I know.

The Phillies just spent 17 or so million per year over 4 years for a guy who is lucky to be a #5 starter on a good team. Yippee!

No Rodon confirmed. Dombrowski is an utter disaster.

Let's see.  If the Eagles beat the Giants, Bears and then Cowboys then I think they clinch the division at that point.  Cowboys would be down 3 games and the Eagles would own the head to head on top of that with 2 games then remaining.   If the Vikings lose one of their next 3 games (@Lions, Colts, Giants) and the Eagles win their next 3 then they would not only clinch the NFC East with a win over Dallas but they could also exit that weekend with the #1 seed clinched.

Then what do you do those last 2 weeks of the season?  Can the backups manage a win over the Saints to keep them from worsening their draft position?

Starters would play vs Saints

Maybe for a half and a drive or two in the 3rd quarter . I can't see them playing a full game when it doesn't matter and they have pulled starters early twice already this season.

2004 Eagles also locked up the #1 seed with 2 weeks left in the season.  That week 16 game the starters only played a series or the first quarter.  I don't think Westbrook played at all.  Then the week 17 game none of the starters played.

Will Anderson.  No question.

Do you think this D maximizes a player with his size and skillset? Im certain Carter could play all along this DL in any DT alinment, as well as 5-tech DE and maybe even out wider.

How many positions can you see us lining up Will Anderson at? How often do you suspect he will have the green light to just rush the passer?

I then also look at the relative depth of the DE position in this draft compared to the dominant DTs who can play the run equally as well as rush the passer. And Im more excited for a combo like Carter/Verse in round 1, rather than an Anderson/Ika combo.

I guess I might be overthinking it. But I think it may be Carter for me.

That game wasnt about Covey as much as it was about the return unit finally blocking.

And maybe Franklin can speak on this- was that punter just outkicking his coverage or were we really setting up returns?

It was awesome to be at the game, sitting upper level and watching those returns develop. I was like HES GONNA HAVE ROOM!

Each time he did. Each time he broke a nice return. Hes fine. If he can get blocks.

He's a solid fit for the rotation, but seems like a bit of an overpay IMO.

Wheeler/Nola/Walker/Suarez + eventually Painter ain't bad. Could use another vet to balance things out a bit but that's decent.

Looked like line drives to me.   Long flat punts from my untrained eye, just out kicked the coverage by a good amount.

You’re overthinking it.  Gannon will most likely be gone either this offseason or next.  We’ve been needing a blue chip stud edge guy for a long long time.  Doesn’t matter what defense you’re currently running.  Hell Gannon has said he doesn’t have a scheme, so get the guy add some lbs and figure it out.  Would you figure out a spot for a young Von Miller?   Or pass him up and draft another DT and hope to get a lesser edge guy later?  We’ve been ignoring edge for far too long.   I said that twice.  For a reason.

I would figure out a spot for Von Miller. And I believe  you can put Anderson in Reddicks spot and have a ~15 sack guy almost every year.

For me its a question of which player can be maximized.

I dont see the eagles switching completely to a traditional 3-4 where they can utilize two rush OLBs.  Its not just an alignment change, its an overall philosophy change.

As I see it, we have 1 rush OLB, and on the other side of him you either have an off ball SAM type LB, or you have a down lineman lined up inside the tackle box.

Is Anderson going to thrive in a 5-tech? Hard to say yes at his size. Or are you going to take Reddick off the field for a bunch of snaps to make room for Anderson to get those rush OLB reps? That would negate some of the impact.

Carter is really the guy who you can put out there, anywhere, any time and he can produce in any of those roles.

I know the easy answer is to pair him with Reddick as bookend rush LBs but we have no idea who the DC will be, and that projects a vastly different defensive scheme than what we are running. In alignment, and overall philosophy. Its impossible to project that happening.

I never paid attention to the distance of the punt, but I was wondering that as I was looking at the vast pasture of green surrounding him each time he was fielding the ball.

I think he got blocking. Each time he made the 1st guy miss, and then was able to get the edge (Id attribute that to the blocks).

But I do also suspect the punter had something to do with it too.

Just looked like a low trajectory to me... little hang time.

Walker is more of a #5 than a #3. If you think you're going anywhere with that stiff as a #3 starter... oof. You don't want him starting playoff games and they gave him 17m per year.

Eflin is a better pitcher, they should've just kept Eflin for close to half the price.

Yup lucky to be a 5 starter…. Meanwhile his career era is 3.89. He’s a 4 that depending on the year has pitched like a 3 like this past year where he had a 3.49 era… wait i forgot he pitched in NY so they faked the numbers… DAD712F0-0AC7-4EBD-97BB-1FFB2928DE6F.thumb.jpeg.0ffac80359c486243cd49d5d8df5c6d2.jpeg

Yup eflin is clearly better lmao. Eflin got 13.3 mil and walker got 18 mil. And eflin is also injury prone every year. Which since 2020 walker has been healthy.

Eflin

ERA is a highly overrated stat. He's not a strikeout pitcher, so defense will be a factor behind him(we all know the Phillies defense isn't very good) has been horrendous and I do mean horrendous post all-star break the last couple years, has a bad injury history. The Mets had no interest in bringing him back for a reason. That should tell you something.

He's bad. Watch the games.

Yep.  I’m not drafting that guy based off of the current DC.  It’s the current DC or the next DC’s job to make it work.  Plus, Reddick will have 2 years left on his deal after this year.  I’m not passing up a guy like Anderson because of possible redundancy with 28 (29) year old Reddick who might be at or past his prime.

I get what youre saying. Anderson is the top stud of this entire draft class. Theoretically you pick him and figure it out later.

I struggle to think there is any basis in that theory in reality. I have a hard time imagining an NFL coach thinking any 1 player is worth changing his whole scheme and philosophy for. Mostly, I think the coach is going to to try to make the player fit his scheme.

Hypothetically- You change for 1 guy, suddenly a whole bunch of other guys likely dont fit anymore and overall you've weakened the system.

The most important aspect contributing to a draft picks success imo, is scheme fit.

I cant project who the next DC will be and what system he will run. (I can only predict he will come from IUP and eagles fans everywhere will freak out about it).

I can only look at it from what we know of this defense. Based on that, its Carter for me and its actually quite easy. Even considering the most popular option as the Gannon successor here- Fangio. Supposedly Gannon's scheme is influenced by Fangio. So we can probably only assume the D would be similar if that was the case. Still have to lean Carter in that case.

After reading this post, I have pretty much confirmed Walker is a great signing.

Yes the guy telling me scherzer was done and finished telling me to watch the games… then tells me eflin is better meanwhile for their career’s eflin had been a worse and can’t stay healthy while eflin is making 4.67 mil less which ain’t half

you’re right getting tuner isn’t remotely going to help their defense or moving stott to second where he’s better suited. Or the fact castellanos or schwarber are going to DH since harper is out til like July so that upgrades your defense too as you get vierling in the field who’s better than both as a fielder until harper is back

The Mets also messed around with the degrom lost him to the Rangers. The Mets also signed McCann and thought he was gonna be better than JT Realmuto and put a tweet out about it. Not really sure the Mets are the czars of great decisions you think they are. They also let wheeler go, who got to a World Series and has been great.

but please keep showing us your vast knowledge over a guy who’s gotten 4 different teams to a World Series and won a couple
