The QB has to say he's staying, so current players don't transfer + easier to convince other players to come to your school.

I like how he’s playing but they definitely have come up with some weird stats to boost him up

I actually love this. College coaches are such sleezeballs

Why is this necessary?  So you had a great season and aren't transferring...in other terms everything is normal.  Why announce it?

Why? NIL is why.

He has to follow it up by going back on Monday and pretending nothing happened, like Costanza (Larry David to SNL)

First of all, I agree that Edwards is not and cannot be that kind of player.  But I’m also not sure the defense asks that or needs that from his role.

On a defense littered with edge rushers, ball hawks, pure cover guys…playmakers…Edwards is probably the only sound, reliable wrap up tackler on the entire unit.  I think our defensive scheme is truly designed to have playmakers where we’ve already got them and to have the glue guy exactly where Edwards is.

Agree about that.  The Tannehill scramble with Edwards getting straight up dusted sticks out like a sore thumb when it comes to his limitations though.

Does the exception make the rule?

It's not really an exception when he's saying that it exemplifies his limitations. It's not really a one off occurrence. TJ just isn't very stout against the run.

Just saw a weather forecast for Sunday and it looks like rain with the possibility of snow later in the day. Glad I'm not going.

Yup. The high is supposed to be 43 and it’s supposed to rain at the meadowlands. The following week they go to Chicago, the high is gonna be 35 degrees and there’s 54% chance of rain/snow

He's extremely slow in general, he has pretty good instincts so he is usually in a good position but if he has to chase anyone he's going to lose every time

I don't know about Edwards as Defensive MVP,  but he's clearly underestimated here.

Worked hard to both add strength and speed, and it shows on the field, high IQ, captain of the defense, much improved in pass coverage.

Would't break the bank for him but would definitely sign him over White.

Anyone else worried about that terrible turf at the metlife?

@LeanMeanGM

Eagles 27

Giants 21

Hurts 2 rushing TDs

Dickerson gets injured and goes on IR

No

TJ is a JAG.  Nothing more.  Someone has to play MLB.  He just happens to be the guy.  Not awful, but not a good player either.  So no, he’s not underestimated.

I think he's better then you give him credit for do obviously he's underestimated by some, perhaps over estimated by others. Point is to say he's not underestimated is patently false

I don't understand the question.  Edwards is slow.  That play highlighted his lack of speed.   It's not an exception for him.  It is who he is as an NFL LB.  He was even on the slow side for a Big 10 LB.  Edwards' only chance is to be quick to diagnose things to be able to be in the right position.  If he has to change direction, if he has to sprint to get to the right spot, he'll usually not get there.

This is what Lance Zierlein had to say about him prior to the draft on the weakness side... There is a distinct pattern.

Weaknesses
  • Not a natural knee-bender
  • Below-average initial quickness
  • Has to diagnose instantly or he can get too far behind
  • Goes over the top of blocks rather than slipping them
  • Needs earlier block discard in space
  • Loses his leverage as run defender at times
  • Sideline-to-sideline range comes up short
  • Unable to run down ball carriers to the edge without head-start
  • Limitations in man coverage

TJ is ok against the run, as long as it is inside the box, and it helps when he's clean.  If it's outside the box, or if he has to stack and shed blockers that's when he gets in more trouble.  And in pass coverage, he also gets exposed if he has to run to a deep zone... man coverage?  Pretty much forget about it.  There's not a RB in the league he could likely stay with.
