Trash Howie all you like, much of which he deserves, but he took full responsibility for Reagor over Jefferson. That doesn’t excuse the pick, but saying he hides behind different folks all the time simply isn’t true.

It’s music to my ears that he said the lesson learned is to take the best player as opposed to the best fit.

Someone, I forget who, suggested we shouldn’t draft Will Anderson because we have Reddick. That was with the caveat that we have our QB. If we’re going by best player, then draft Anderson, given the opportunity. 
Not that we’ll have the opportunity.

I don't know what the League wide success rate is for teams but they have been below average given how high the picks have been and the production.

Took him 3 years and all the talk about how the scouts wanted Jefferson, but the coaches (aka, Doug) wanted Reagor.  3 years later, he steps forward, but only after his position has been solidified due to a couple of (seemingly) good drafts.  And the narrative is that 'Howie is back', etc, etc.  Where was he with that statement when Doug got pushed out?  Did he own the pick then?  Nope.  That's when he hid behind Doug and let him be the fall guy and blaming the coach for the failures of trying to extend the window.

 

And, the fact that it took this long for the lesson to be learned that the best player is the best choice is disheartening.  I am as stubborn as they come, but does it really take 3 years to learn that?   

 

As for Anderson, or anyone else for that matter.  When you have a chance at a stud blue chipper at the very top of the draft, you DO NOT go in a different direction because of a 29 year old vet on the roster.   Reddick should have zero impact on the decision to add a stud edge player.  That's a premium position.  And this team has been desperate for a stud edge player since before they traded up to land Brandon Graham in Round 1.  Still looking for that game changing stud.   Who was the last stud edge player they actually drafted?  Trent Cole?
