I think the safety was afraid of a flag there for defenseless WR. No way he whiffs on the ball, and Smith. He avoided contact and missed everything.

In real time I thought he wasn’t going for the hit because he didn’t want to get defenseless receiver with the collision that was gonna occur. But watching the replay he just went for the interception wasn’t even close annd allowed Smith just catching and walk into the end zone.
