Nice try. Hurts is currently a better player than Herbert, no bias needed. Every metric in football, individual and team success, screams it.

And again, for the 4th (?) time, you're missing the point. I am not saying he isn't currently better. I am saying it's laughable that people are essentially saying that he's far and away a better QB and will be moving forward based off of 13 games on a vastly superior team.

Well, at least you admitted he's better right now, that's progress I guess.

There are a few RBs having inferior seasons to Miles Sanders by every metric that I’d trade him for…

It's really not hard to get a handle on, but here we are 😂

The bias is believing Herbert is better despite all evidence.

It's not surprising considering...

Jason Peters and extended period of time don’t really go together.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with Miles. If I had to guess, they're second guessing the idea of letting him hit free agency. Though with a tight cap, I'm not sure they even have a choice. They're better off letting him go, but man, he has had a really nice season.

Dude threw for 5100 yards and 33 TDs... oh that's lick-a-dub

Stats are nice. Winning is better.

38tds, but I agree winning is better.

The really fascinating discussion is going to come when all 3 are off rookie contracts and being paid big money so likely begin to lose some guys and have to draft well to sustain the level of their play around them.

You’re completely wrong.

I can't possibly be wrong as I'm not making any assertions. I'm asking for an explanation. I have no doubts that the referees know the rules and if they made a mistake, which is plausible, then the league would have already said so.

I'm quoting the rule directly. Your explanation is insufficient.

So if you all were to guess, would you guess that Davonta Smith gets a second contract with the Eagles? I’m guessing no.

Obviously we’re a couple years away from that. He’s very good, but I don’t see him as ever being THE guy. He is way too slight of a build and doesn’t have elite speed or elite hands. If I’m going to compare him to former players, I’d say somewhere between Maclin and Ochocinco.

Go look up a video on how to execute a drop kick. Your interpretation of "immediate” is wrong.

You also asserted that @Iggles_Phan was incorrect. You should apologize to him

He’s having his best season as a pro this year. I just think the money is going to be too much at a position they don’t value nearly as much. I also could see the eagles saying our oline is good enough too replace him. i tend to think they go draft and pick up a cheaper FA to pair with the rookie in the middle rounds (i think one of those firsts we trade back for more picks)

Can someone please explain to me why the Giants dropped punt / kick was ruled illegal instead of a legal drop kick?

It has to be kicked just as it hits the ground on a drop kick... like any other place kick, just without a holder.  The ball should basically be exactly like it would be for a placekick as it is being struck, not bouncing about wildly and just happened to be kicked.

Nice try but this is not correct.

Believe it or not, the dropkick remains a legal maneuver in the National Football League today. It still exists in the NFL's official rule book. Rule 3, Section 18, Article 1, Item 1 defines the dropkick as, "a kick by a player who drops the ball and kicks it as, or immediately after, it touches the ground."

He kicked it on the first bounce. It was not bouncing about wildly

You’re wrong. It’s not first bounce, that’s what wrong. Now apologize to @Iggles_Phan and move on

Lot of RBs.  Maybe he cuts a decent deal to stay on a winner with a coach that is using him quite nicely.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't. He's the kind of guy and player they like to keep around. AJ will be a few years older by the time you start paying DeVonta a high salary.

Uhhhh yes. Immediately as or after it touches the ground. It was kicked on the first bounce  - in the air - IE Immediately after.

I believe the league’s interpretation of immediately after means virtually simultaneous, not when it’s a couple of inches off the ground.

Incidentally I was pretty annoyed with the broadcast crew when that play happened. They acted like it’s just another punt and prepared to go to a commercial break. Meanwhile I’m screaming at the tv that that’s illegal. You can’t randomly kick a ball like that! I knew immediately that we were getting the ball thereabouts.

He didn't kick it "as or immediately after" it touched the ground.  In other words there should be no noticeable delay between ball hitting ground and foot striking ball.  Hence, it was now bouncing wildly, as in "not as intended as a drop kick".  He dropped it, and then he kicked it... he didn't "drop kick" it.  A drop kick is a single fluid motion, not haphazard as we saw the play today.  They got the rule right.

That is not immediately.  It has to be one motion, and intentional as a drop kick.  That was not.

Having played a lot of rugby in my life, as a winger and full back, I’ve made countless drop kicks. I even was allowed to attempt one in a football exhibition game.

In rugby, if you did what the punter did today, it would be ruled a knock on. The drop kick is a very specific kick.

@Iggles_Phan described it perfectly, mixing a technical explanation with a lay person explanation.
