EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

Makes sense once Book and Sermon were successfully claimed. No need for 6 RB's or 4 QB's.

Only thing that is weird is the open spot on the 53. I figured they would just promote someone from the PS but this suggests they are going outside to try to fill that spot.

They can promote players Friday to revert back. My suspicion is that the spot on the 53 goes to a vested veteran after this week’s game. Just a guess and really have no one in mind.

It wasn’t the FO’s fault that Wentz was so bad in 2020. Yes, having Greg Ward as your number 1 WR for 2 seasons is far from ideal but he just completed schatt the bed that season. Then threw a hissy fit when he got benched.

With what they were paying him, he was going to be the starter heading into 2021.

I don't recall this happening. Is this video of this?

I didn't like how things ended.  Wentz has some blame in that but I'd still like to see the crowd show him that hey thanks for your part in the SB run.  Then they can boo the **** out of him the rest of the game.

Also like to see Doug get some appreciation as well.

Jason Peters......probably won't happen because of who he is playing for.

He got the hey thanks in 2018.  He is two teams removed at this point and he chose to severe the relationship.  JP is now two teams removed too.  I do like that JP is still bilking money at 40 to play a young man’s game.

Maybe if he had Metcalf instead of JJAW, or Jefferson instead of Reagor, or both.

Maybe if they did not have a different O line combo every week, maybe if they didn't sign guys off the street who were to busy fixing their gloves during the play instead of blocking someone.

Yes, Wentz had his issues, but the team did absolutely nothing to help him the two previous offseasons.

Been chewing over the opener and have returned to basics when all is masticated. Our lines are better than their lines.

Also, Dan Campbell is old school, and his team is pretty beat up already thanks to all those Hard Knocks. I think Gannon is very conservative early to avoid giving up a big strike or two but then we just grind them down.

I liked Keene as a prospect, but was stunned he was drafted in the third round. I think he’s a more talented version of Stoll, with the versatility to play some fullback if needed.

Way overdrafted.  I though he was a late day 3 talent.  Nothing particularly impressive about him. Not a great route runner, not great at inline blocking.  Better at blocking in space. Frankly, I like Stoll better.  Keene really struggled with the Pats.  This feels like a kick the tires type of churn move.  Both players added reflect downfield blocking with a touch of Hback/slot.  Not sure if that suggests something or possibly a scout team move.

Wentz quit talking to Doug after he was benched, but seeing as Doug didn't actually tell Wentz he was being benched (he simply left Hurts in the game and left Wentz to figure it out on his own) it can be debated who quit talking to who first.

I would describe Hurts reaction to being benched as a hissy fit

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking..until that thing is signed, I'd be in bubble wrap (with an opening to make sure I could breathe)!!!

Literally the most informative thing from his presser.  Well and he has moved on from the plant analogy last year to Dawg Mentality as the theme for this year.

2020 was after the concussion.

Similar crap around him.  Much worse result.

Eagles drafted 15 players during the 2019 / 2020 drafts

6 on the roster - Hurts who will probably be replaced without a major step up, Quez, servicable, Sanders, oft injured and will not see a second contract, Driscoll, depth, Wallace, not sure why he is still here, Shaun Bradley, special teamer.

1 on the PS

1 on IR

7 are gone.

I am not defending or dismissing the failures of roster construction.

I am saying that the supporting cast in 2020 was not much different from 2019.

I know, just showing how we got to that point.

So who gets restructured today ??  All teams have to be cap compliant by 4:00 PM EST.  OTC and Spotrac show the Eagles will be over the cap when the following happens.  Plus they will need room to add the 53rd player, and any in season moves that need to be made.

Carson simply thought the FO wanted to tank based on the decisions they made, so he tanked. Poor guy was just going along with the plan!

Hargrave would be the prime suspect.  He's atop the cap hit table.

Starting the offseason, Eagles were somewhat OK for future cap.

On top of everything they did this year, they borrowed from the future.  As it currently sits, the Eagles have to get under the cap this afternoon, and have no rollover into next season.

January 6th, the Eagles had 43.3 million in 2023 space, now they have 11.3 million in 2023 cap space with 42 players under contract.

January 6th, the Eagles had 91.7 million in 2024 space, now they have 50.3 million in 2024 cap space with 27 players under contract.

Yes, they signed some guys, AJ Brown for example, but I do not think they have added 73.4 million in talent that they have used from 2023 / 2024.
