He was on Cowherd's show a few weeks ago. He talked about his career with the Cards, how he started off being a ball boy, but got more responsibility and got to learn how to breakdown tape, learn schemes etc. He said he was still very close with the Bidwell family.

I know, but he strikes me as a weasel. He’ll say whatever he thinks people would want to hear to benefit himself.

True, I wouldn't put it past him to use the Cards as leverage to put pressure on DAL or LAC.

He's close with the Bidwell family apparently, I'm sure they will give him as much control as he wants, and if anyone can maximize Murray in the NFL, he's on that list.

I agree with LAC part though, that makes so much sense for everybody involved.

Yeah he’s gonna get a large say in personnel moves if he takes the job. I think besides their relationship that’s the big draw to Payton. The cardinals actually have talent on the offensive side of the ball. It’s whether you believe you can maximize Murray’s ability and if he has that drive to do take the next step.

personally watching murray and things I’ve been told, i wouldn’t touch that job especially with that injury. If i were Payton I’m waiting for a job where i get the opportunity to coach a potential player like herbert

He actually has a good relationship with the bidwells. Tbh I actually think it’s more that he could have ultimate say and do pretty much anything he wants just to get him there.

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!

Was it you I was discussing Tatis Jr. with the other night!

I’m pretty sure that’s a joke cause Jamie shields went to the white Sox from the padres for tatis years ago. But there’s been some rumors they have floated his name out there.

Nope. Even worse has to coach murray.

Marquise Brown and Deandre Hopkins, both finally in the lineup together. This should have been the moment they took off, but it’ll be when the door shuts on the season.

No way he gets that in DAL, and Chargers are liable to do Charger things and screw it up.

BUF is a wildcard, if they move on from McDermott, it's a match made in football heaven. The only possible impediment I see is Payton and his new wife not wanting to live there.

He won’t even get full coaching authority in Dallas, nevermind any front office say. He’s never going there; Jerry loves his puppets

If the chargers are going out for him i think they’d give him that type of power if it meant acquiring him.

If Buffalo makes that move to fire mcdemott (which would be like a Tony Dungy to John Gruden Buccaneers move and only if they stumble again) then i think it’s for Payton. In my opinion, there’s no way you can fire McDermott to just hire a really good coordinator. That said, I’m not sure they want to relinquish complete power to him when they built a pretty damn good roster. But if it gets them over the hump i could see it.

Didn’t know they.  Might speak to the rumors of them wanting him gone though.

There’s been some rumors with the Yankees willing to unload some prospects for him.

The Patriots are so weird. They look horrible some weeks and decent others. I think they're one of the 10 least talented rosters in the NFL with about 90% of their talent on the defensive side.

The Cardinals could be a wildcard team to draft a QB. Keim has shown before he'll dump a QB even if taken them in the first round if he has a chance at a QB prospect he likes better.

It is easier to come back from that injury nowadays then it was in the past. but we are gonna see how mentally tough and dedicated murray is in coming back and his rehab. there’s been a ton of stuff surrounding him about just how hard he works and all this other crap he does off the field. He is going to have to work his ass off to get back to where he was with that type of injury. That is not an easy rehab and mentally have to be tough to make the complete comeback. I am curious to see how he does with that rehab.

Problem is you need more detail, since for most QBs, out of pocket plays are usually "Run For Your Life" plays with defenders in hot pursuit.

Whereas the majority of plays in the pocket, the ball is gone before the rush gets there.

So self-selection bias.

Not saying they shouldn't consider it, but man that would be a helluva pivot after they just signed Murray to an extension.

I see 96 million reasons why they won't.

Sean Payton apparently has some interest in being their HC, it made no sense to me as to why, but apparently the Cards gave him his first job in the NFL, so he feels a sense of obligation.

I thought the Eagles were the first NFL team for Payton. He was only here for a year or two before going to the Giants, I think.

What makes it harder is you really can’t trade him due to the knee injury or you’d really be selling low. Add on the 96 mil CT mentioned. The injury happening in December he is potentially missing a chunk of next year and he’s the type of Qb where that injury could really hamper his ability.

Yup. Besides the knee that contract likely locks them in for a while. I won’t say never cause we’ve seen teams bite the bullet but the next 2 years seems highly unlikely

If they truly believe Murray is their franchise, then they won't. If they don't, then I don't think you pass on a franchise changing talent at the most important position in sports simply because of money. You can always find ways to get out of that contract down the road and trade the player. The important thing is getting the most important position in sports taken care of. Never know when you'll pick in the top 5 again and if you do, there will be QBs you like available.

Seems like youre stretching to make your original post work. First of all they truly believed Murray is the franchise QB by giving him that contract, and theres no way they are getting out of that contract via trade. Kyler has done a good job at tanking his market from both his on field play and off the field nonsense...now throw in his torn ACL. Not to mention it would be even harder for them to trade Kyler especially if they drafted a QB in the top 5 as teams would know Cardinals would have absolutely 0 leverage in getting a deal done. They would be paying Kyler AND the new QB would be making dam near 4 year $40 million guaranteed, so good luck with that in the front office and have fun dealing with the locker room drama that already exists with the Cardinals and Kyler.

And oh yeah....they'll be drafting in the top 5 again...its the Cardinals.

If DEN wins 2 of its remaining 4 games (ARZ, LAR), will that be enough to lift LAR’s SOS above NO? LAR and NO are only separated by .004 right now…
