At this point, it seems everybody (coaches, players, FO) are OK with the volume of Hurts runs.

So, instead of worrying about it, I realize now that a great Canadian band said it best…he’s here for a good time, not a long time….so we should have a good time while we can (and hopefully that results in another Lombardi)

This is the style that works great for colleges, because they can only have a guy for 4 years (5 if you count the red shirt) and they have the opportunity to go out and recruit the next great QB to fill the hole left behind.    The NFL isn't like that.  So, I guess the plan might be to run Hurts into the ground and move on when he gets expensive.  You keep the ancillary pieces in place and maybe a few extra pieces because you have a cheap QB.    But, that's a dangerous game to play.   Will the right guy be available when you are searching?  Will you be in as position to grab him?  How will the team respond to the new guy after they'd bonded with the old guy.  Lots and lots of variables.

This.  That guy is the biggest homer I’ve ever seen

Agreed, I don’t think it’s the best plan long term at all. And considering how much better he’s looked in the pocket, I’d like to see him hand it off more and stay in the pocket to throw. I doubt it happens this year

You people are in full blown denial and delusional beyond belief.  Eagles plan is not to move on from Hurts when he beces expensive.  He will become one of the highest paid players in the league this upcoming summer and do so on the Eagles.

Riddle me this, batman.

Premise 1: We supposedly have a monster OL that is better at run blocking than pass blocking.
Premise 2: The Bears' D was ranked 29th against the run, but have a QB with a similar style to Hurts as far as the running game goes.

Conclusion:  You have to run the ball with the QB to be effective running the ball against them?

Why not put the game on the big boys upfront?  Why not go with a much more 'traditional' running attack, allowing Hurts to be more of a decoy than the primary ball carrier and keep the hits off the QB on a cold and windy day in Chicago on a terrible playing surface?  Maybe even use Jurgens as a TE on a few occasions to get the numbers more in your favor to run the ball?    Sanders put up huge numbers against GB.  He put up huge numbers on the Giants.  Both of whom were in roughly the same area of the rankings as a run defense as the Bears.  Why give the Bears what they practice against versus what they have struggled against all year?

I would like to find out who has been the squeeky wheel along that OL as far as pass protection goes?

Yes, Hurts often bails too soon when he should just step up, or slide sideways and deliver from in the pocket.

BUT there is no denying, someone is losing too quickly, allowing some pressure. far too often. It seems to usually be from the LG spot. But I havent really paid attention for all these weeks.

Anyone else notice this? Or are there more culprits? Or is it always coming from there?

2 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Mailata is your main culprit.

I know he has lost some speed rushes. But I feel like most of the time the early pressures are coming more LG area.

It could be hes being beaten on his inside shoulder as well. Or it could be Dickerson. I havent paid close enough attention because usually Im mad at Hurts for reacting the way he does.

But its become too regular to ignore and not blame this lineman. Whoever he is, or they are.

I'm not in denial.   I am trying to figure out what the team must be thinking if they are willing to let their QB take as many hits as they do.  It is NOT sustainable.

Let's look at some recent history.  Lamar Jackson has the most rushing attempts in a single season.  In fact, he's got the highest 2.  They came in back to back seasons.  2019 and 2020, (176 and 159 respectively).  The following year, his rushing stats were on pace (just over 11 carries per game on average)... but he was injured and missed a bunch of games and the team fell off the map.  2022, Jackson is only averaging a hair over 9 carries a game, and the team has refused to sign him long term.  Jackson won the MVP trophy, after leading the Ravens to a league best 14-2 record, but they were bounced in the playoffs.

Now... let's look at the Eagles with Hurts.  Hurts is averaging over 11 carries a game, just like Jackson.  Hurts might be the league MVP while the team has the league best record.  We'll see what happens in the playoffs.  But, with everything right now, following the Lamar Jackson blue print, how can you be certain that the team will be willing to invest huge money in him?

And then there's this little piece to consider.   Hurts was banged up at around this time last season, missed a game and didn't have the same running ability when he returned.  Had surgery in the offseason on the ankle.  Now, he's taking more hits, and is dealing with a shoulder ding... his throwing shoulder.  That could impact both his running ability and passing.   Is that what we want heading into the playoffs?  A dinged up QB... again.

So the question remains... why has the team been so cavalier with their use of him as a runner this year?   Why have they used him as a runner in the second half of games up 3 scores?  Why use him as the primary ball carrier against a team like the Bears who struggle to stop the run normally AND while they are on the stretch run of the regular seasons looking to make a big playoff push?   These questions aren't about Hurts, in case you haven't figured it out yet, they are about the thought process of the coaching staff and organization.

According to some people on here, after Mahomes 3 int game last week ment Hurts was the favorite in the MVP race.  I guess after Hurts 2 int game that puts Mahomes back in the driver seat

Hurts' mvp odds actually got better after yesterday.

I would put both WR1 as the MVP's yesterday.

It's not hard to figure out and has nothing to do with a ridiculous conspiracy that they plan on moving on from him.  They are 13-1, best team in the league with Hurts playing as the best player in the league.  The goal is to win the Super Bowl and that is what they are aiming to do this year. Every player in the league is dinged up come playoff game.

Some of you people here continue to be so completely detached from reality unable to accept the fact that Jalen Hurts is the franchise QB and the Eagles will be committing to him long term.

As a fan of the Eagles team, I’m worried they’ll hand out a big contract to him, which they’ll regret when he breaks down like an overused RB.

It looks like it’s gonna be a fun ride until that happens, but sticking your head in the sand over future concerns is what a child does

Not surprisingly, you completely ignored everything I said.   When responding to someone, it's always nice to actually respond to the statement made, not just reassert your previous statement.

The goal of winning the Super Bowl is every team's goal.  I laid out a case, point by point, that the Eagles are following the exact same blueprint that the Ravens followed.  2019, the Ravens were 14-2, best record in the NFL... with a QB that set the record for the most rushes in a single season.  Eagles are following that perfectly.  The Ravens then lost in the playoffs... in their first match up.  (That remains to be seen for the Eagles.).  The Ravens followed the same blue print for 2020.  Same results.  2021... same results, but Jackson missed a bunch of games... then refused to give him the huge contract he asked for.  2022, he's running less frequently per game, and the Ravens still aren't giving him the contract he's asking for.

Where have I detached from reality?  Is there anything in any of that that is factually inaccurate?

IMO from what I have seen Dickerson hasn't played up to the level of the rest of the line.

May be that his pass pro needs catching up to his run blocking. I also think he is playing hurt.

That left side needs to be shored up for next season though, one way or another. Improvement from Dickerson, another open competition between Dillard and Mailata.... something.

Good Morning.

We only need 3 more wins to get to the Super Bowl.

Could get there with only 2, with the right losses by others.

That is really amazing since they have been in the lead the majority of games where QB's need to pass to try and get back in the game.
